Mysteries of Val Camonica featured on 10/4/19 episode of Ancient Aliens - Part 2

The mysterious Mt. Musine

Monte Musinè is a part of the Susa Valley in Piedmont, and has a long history of mystery and folklore. After reviewing a few parts of the 'Alien Mountain' episode of Ancient Aliens, I saw that the spiral symbol featured in part one was actually in the Susa Valley; although the same symbol is present in Val Camonica as well. In fact, the Susa Valley also has ancient motifs and figures similar to the Camonica Valley.

Although the program mentioned quite a few different stories of mythology and elements of mystery, I thought that the most telling was the "Sword of St. Michael," which is seven sanctuaries---all dedicated to the Archangel Michael---stretching in a perfectly straight line from Ireland to Israel. One of the sanctuaries is the millennium-old Sacra Di San Michele in the Susa Valley. I don't think that was any coincidence, although the first several probably weren't intended for that purpose. However, it seems obvious to me that later constructions were intended to "fill in the line." It probably should be noted that the Archangels predate Christianity itself.

'Mount Mosiné: alien base and land of dark mysteries and spiritual legends'

E-Borghi.com - December 5, 2018

Just twenty kilometers from Turin lies the most mysterious mountain in Italy, known for its legendary stories. This is Mount Mosiné, an inactive volcano for thousands of years, about 1,150 meters high, located near the Val di Susa, in the Graian Alps. Today the mountain looks like an arid and hostile territory, poor in fauna and vegetation, but suitable for lovers of hiking and suggestive panoramas. In light of the extraordinary archaeological findings made, it appears that the Musiné was populated by ancient Celtic tribes dating back to the Neolithic. The evidence of prehistoric ceramic finds, the remains of a late Bronze Age hut dating back to 1700 BCE witness it. and the imposing White Cross located on its summit. The cross shows the Latin wording "in hoc signo vinces" (in this sign you will win) and the legend tells that it was precisely that cross to appear in a dream to Constantine I, the day before the great battle of Turin and its immediate conversion to Catholicism .

Despite the archaeological importance, Mount Mosiné is famous for its innumerable legends that have helped to grow its name, so as to be at the center of scientific and paranormal studies moved by superstitions, beliefs and various sightings of UFOs.

'The Stele of Mount Musinè'

A mysterious stele of unknown origin sits on the peak of this curious mountain

AtlasObscura.com

High atop Mount Musinè, an area where colored lights are rumored to be seen periodically by the citizens of the surrounding villages, an enormous stone slab sits embedded into the mountain’s peak, displaying an esoteric and opaque message for all to see.

The stele is of unknown origin, but whoever carved and placed it upon the mountain was no doubt inspired by the allegedly mystical properties of the mountain, long considered a gathering point for UFOs, strange energies and mystifying effects, including rocks displaying prehistoric carvings seemingly representing flying objects.

HÄXAN : Witchcraft Through The Ages (1922) [HD]

Dague Jaune

Director : Benjamin Christensen
Cast : Maren Pedersen, Clara Pontoppidan, Elith Pio, Benjamin Christensen,...
Budget : 2 Million Swedish Crown (SEK)
Release date : 18/09/1922

This film was featured on "silent film Sundays" on Turner Classic Movies, and I finally got around to watching the whole film. It was an interesting perspective, especially considering that it's pushing 100 years. It made some very interesting observations about this history in relation to society then (and now). It was not in any way sympathetic to Christrianity nor Paganism, but took what I would call a objective Humanist point of view. Medieval Christians were seen as supersticious whack jobs and Witches were seen as crazy old ladies making love potions out've dried out cat turds. Perhaps more than anything, Benjamin Christensen probably just thought that it would make for an interesting film/documentary. At the end he came up with some interesting parallels to Western society in 1922. The irrational "witch hunt" is still very much alive.

Unclaimed History - Modern Science and the Ancient Mystery Schools

"From the temple we got mathematics, astronomy and chemistry, and music, geography and history. Practically every science we know was originally part of this secret wisdom."
-- Manly P. Hall in a lecture entitled 'Secret Powers and Why We Should Not Use Them'

This quote was in regards to how carefully guarded mystery sciences, for various reasons, came into the possession of questionable or undisciplined men during and after the gradual collapse of classical culture. However, it was in direct reference to how some of those mystery sciences did lead to the roots of mainstream modern science. Although this does not prove point-blank that "science came from religion," modern science has its roots in the same ancient wisdom that Atheists trash on a regular basis.

Interview With a Gothi - Part 1

Hengest Thorsson

An interview with Heimgest, leader of the Odinic Rite.

The Odinic Rite is an organization whose aims are to promote all aspects of the ancestral religion today called Odinism, the organic spiritual beliefs and way of life of the indigenous peoples of Northern Europe. The watch-words of the Odinic Rite are "Faith, Folk, Family" and this summarizes their ideals well.

For more information visit www.odinic-rite.org

I posted this some years ago, and it amazes me that after 13 years it only has 38,166 views! Hengest is the head of the Court of Gothar of the worldwide Asatru/Odinist organization called the Odinic Rite, based in the UK. He is being interviewed somewhere in Alberta, Canada, which is where Daniel Updike is located... although I have no idea if this is connected to that same Odinist group. It deals with the current state of the rise of Odinism, current as of 2006. I have no idea as to why this video doesn't have at least a half million views! Equally as puzzling, parts 2, 3, and 4 only have 8,000, 5,000, and 4,000 views. Maybe it's just me, but this is exciting, this is important, one of the major leaders of the movement, visiting a beautiful far off rural location, tying it all together, it should have more views.

"Folk Horror"

'Midsommar'

Midsommar is a 2019 folk horror film written and directed by Ari Aster and starring Florence Pugh, Jack Reynor, William Jackson Harper, Vilhelm Blomgren, and Will Poulter. It follows a group of friends who travel to Sweden for a festival that occurs once every ninety years and find themselves in the clutches of a pagan cult.

A co-production between the United States and Sweden, the film was initially pitched as a straightforward slasher film set amongst Swedish cultists. Aster devised a screenplay using elements of the concept but made a deteriorating relationship the central conflict after he had experienced a difficult breakup. The film was shot on location in Budapest, Hungary in the summer and autumn of 2018.

Midsommar was theatrically released in the United States on July 3, 2019 by A24 and in Sweden on July 10, 2019 by Nordisk Film. The film received positive reviews from critics, with many praising Aster's direction and Pugh's performance.

'Quest for the Grave of Scotia, the Pharaoh’s Daughter Who Founded Scotland and Ireland'

Sarah P. Young - Ancient-Origins.net - March 15, 2019

A short distance from the bustling Irish town of Tralee in County Kerry there is an otherworldly looking glen which is known as Scotia’s Grave. According to Irish folklore, the glen was the location of a battle known as Sliabh Mish which took place between the Celtic Milesians and a supernatural race called the Tuatha Dé Danann (tribe of the gods).

Although it was the Milesians who were victorious in battle it was a triumph at the expense of their queen, Scotia, who is reputed to have been buried in the glen.

Who Was Queen Scotia?

Queen Scotia appears in a chronical called the Book of Leinster , a medieval Irish manuscript which was compiled in around 1160 AD. The book was compiled by an abbot named Áed Ua Crimthainn who deeply respected the traditions and history of Ireland, even when they were at odds with his views as a Christian or his reasonable beliefs as a well-educated man.

She is described as the daughter of an Egyptian Pharaoh, the wife of a Greek king, and a contemporary of the Biblical Moses who allegedly cured her husband after he was bitten by a venomous snake.

Why do people hate leaving a message on a machine or voicemail ?

I can not understand why people will not leave a message. I have a machine at home and voicemail on my cell and they are there for a reason. I always screen my calls at home and will never pick up the phone. I can see who calls on my cell and can decide to answer it, but that is not the point. If im busy or didn't hear the phone ring then i think it might be a good idea to leave a message .

Can someone please share their opinions on this subject.

I leave messages, most of the time, but I sometimes don't. It makes me uncomfortable and don't know what to say. So most of the time, I just figure, "Well, I'll try again later, when they're there."

Because talking to a person is very different from talking to a non-responsive machine; if you are going to speak a brief monologue, you would normally prepare it in advance, making sure that you cover what you want to say as clearly as possible without repetition, hesitation or omission.

However, in ordinary conversation, you generally just 'wing it' as you go along, because if you miss anything important (like when or where you are going to meet them, or what you want them to do, the other person will ask.

So if you aren't expecting to give a monologue, the usual response is "Hello, err...it's me. Ummm, By 'me' I mean Mangetout, Have you got... Umm.. I mean I was umm... calling about errr... Oh, I'll call back"

Ancient Marseille: Greek-Celtic trading center

Nobody apparently has taken the time to put this into literary or documentary film form, but in pre-Roman times there existed a massive trading arrangement between the Greek world and the Celtic world. At the Greek colony of Marseille was a huge trading post where goods and money were exchanged. Goods were brought in from everywhere in ancient western Europe through a pre-Roman road system. This would have included not only Celtic Gaul, but Celtiberian Iberia, Cisalpine Gaul, Etruria, Celtic central and northern Europe, and from the island lands of the Celtic Britons, Caledonians, and Hibernians.

Even in western Ireland there have been found the remains of what had been ancient wooden roads over peat bogs and wetlands, moving the goods and coins over the land, crossing over across the narrowest sea point into Briton, over the land and sea at it's narrowest point into Gaul, and down to Marseille, and back again. This whole operation would have required much cooperation and goodwill between the various tribal groups, far from the idea of "warring Celtic tribes." The Greek vessels were back and forth across the Mediterranean. Although it's not known for certain, there may well have been Teutonic tribes, from north-central Europe and Scandinavia, participating as well. Goods would have included clothing, iron, tin, bronze, artwork, furs, rugs, blankets, pillows, weaponry, wheat, grains, spices, wine, mead, and the whole endeavor must have included food... if even just for the duration which they spent there.

An imported Greek wine-mixing vessel from 500 BC
I recall the excavation of one of the structures in Greek Marseille. It was similar to frontier trading post structures in early America. It was a good-sized, two-story, wooden building, with a substantial stone-walled cellar underneath. I'm speculating that coinage may have been kept in the cellar, while goods were temporarily stored on the second story. Although Marseille was the chief center of trade with the Celtic world, there must have been other centers and midway points of exchange, both in western Europe and throughout the Mediterranean, and into the east. Of course the Phoenicians were a big sea faring and trading culture as well, and this entire basically "Greek trading world" represent a true golden age of civilization. As late as the nineteenth century, some people in the Languedoc region of the south of France actually still spoke a dialect of Greek.

German "mullet of six points" star

On a recent posting, I wrote about a particular sightly star which I had seen in a photograph on a door frame in Germany. It was distinctly not a Saturnian hexagram aka "Star of David," but in the same basic shape. It's called a "mullet of six points" (see image to the left), however, the one I saw had slightly more slender points. It was beautifully engraved and painted on this door frame.

This distinctly is not a Estoile star, a Moravian star, or a hexagram star, but I think a particularly unique and sightly symbol. There are varied types of this star, with varied lengths of the points and curvature. There is also a similarly sightly "mullet of eight points."

Star (heraldry)

In heraldry, the term star may refer to any star-shaped charge with any number of rays, which may appear straight or wavy, and may or may not be pierced. While there has been much confusion between the two due to their similar shape, a star with straight-sided rays is usually called a mullet while one with wavy rays is usually called an estoile.

While a mullet may have any number of points, it is presumed to have five unless otherwise specified in the blazon, and pierced mullets are common; estoiles, however, are presumed to have six rays and (as of 1909) had not been found pierced. In Scottish heraldry, an estoile is the same as in English heraldry, but it has been said[by whom?] that mullet refers only to a mullet pierced (also called a spur revel), while one that is not pierced is called a star.

'Mythical Beasts' - New series on Science Channel

'Mythical Beasts on Science Channel Exclusive Preview'

A new series called Mythical Beasts is coming to Science and promises to be the stuff of legends in this exclusive first look preview.

Michael Ahr - Den of Geek! - September 17, 2018

If you’ve ever wondered about the origins of some of the most recognizable creatures of fantasy and legend, 'Mythical Beasts' on Science Channel will share the tales of how these fabled beasts came to be. The series will be premiering on Sunday, October 14 at 10pm ET/PT on the network and will include everything from dragons to cyclops to vampires and sea monsters. Although the series is non-fiction, its narrative style will no doubt appeal to viewers who enjoy fantasy, horror, supernatural and other similar genres.

Science is sharing this exclusive first look at the trailer for 'Mythical Beasts' with Den of Geek readers:

Each episode of 'Mythical Beasts' will look at the history behind legendary creatures including some with archaeological evidence or other truths behind the myths. The show will explain how scientists, for example, dug up elephant skeletons to investigate how they inspired the myths about the Cyclops and hunted through maritime logs to see why people believed the mighty Kraken was to blame for sinking ships. The series will also follow clues to the island of Crete where the menacing Grecian Minotaur was said to have lived and unravel why the Chinese feared that dragons lived among them.

'Gods of Egypt' (2016) - movie review

Gods of Egypt

Gods of Egypt is a 2016 English-language fantasy film directed by Alex Proyas and featuring ancient Egyptian deities. It stars Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Brenton Thwaites, Chadwick Boseman, Élodie Yung, Courtney Eaton, Rufus Sewell, Gerard Butler and Geoffrey Rush. The film portrays a mortal Egyptian hero who partners with the Egyptian god Horus to save the world from Set and rescue his love.

Filming took place in Australia under the American studio Summit Entertainment. While the film's production budget was $140 million, the parent company Lionsgate's financial exposure was less than $10 million due to tax incentives and pre-sales. The Australian government provided a tax credit for 46% of the film's budget. When Lionsgate began promoting the film in November 2015, it received backlash for its predominantly white cast playing Egyptian deities. In response, Lionsgate and director Proyas apologized for ethnically inaccurate casting.

This is a fantasy film based on Egyptian mythology, with a heavy emphasis on the ancient Egyptian creation myth. There were three planes of existence: the earthly plane, the plane of the "gods," and the afterlife plane. It wasn't like the Greeks gods of film, looking over the affairs of humans; as some of the "gods" (male and female) here lived and ruled among humans. They were taller with superhuman powers, could morph into their individual mythological "stereotype" so to speak (jackal, hawk, etc.), can live a thousand years, and could transcend both the earthly plane and the plane of the gods. They could, however, be killed. Being supermen and superwomen, there was a powerful intended sexual undercurrent despite the film being appropriate for the entire family.

The film begins with a moving overhead shot that looked almost like a modern city with pyramids, temples, and palm trees. It quickly introduces the two protagonists: the youthful god Horus whose father Osiris is the King of Egypt, and the boyish young adult Bek. The god Horus has a slight attitude in the apparent process of finding himself, while the commoner Bek is energetically bouncing off of walls. Horus' love interest is Hather, the goddess of love; while Bek's love interest is young Zaya. Without giving away too much, Osiris' evil brother Set, played by zealous actor Gerard Butler of '300' fame, conducts a coup and takes over the nation.

When Horus attempts to stop Set, Set removes his eyes. However, those "eyes"--looking like glowing blue diamonds, are really more like stealing his high-tech device... they can be "put back." Every god and goddess has one of two such super "devices" specialized more specifically for them as individuals. This movie mixed high technology with an almost futuristic appearance, with the backdrop of ancient Egyptian style (landscape, architecture, dress). Bek steals the eye device, and soon teams up with Horus, and that's basically the gist of the movie. It's very fast paced, with many different computer generated scenes that make this a difficult movie to review if one wanted to sift through every scene and character. It's basically Set vs. Horace. Since I didn't give away anything beyond the first ten of fifteen minutes, I don't think I spoiled anything.

There are many other characters, such as the chief god Ra, which is Horus' grandfather. Set had already killed Osiris. Thoth is prominently featured. This was very much a fantasy movie, not so much because it was "fantasy"... but lets just say that it's very fast paced with many moving parts. The two protagonists grow on you as the movie goes on, and by the end become sort've a mutual-admiration-society.

Two apparently fantasy monuments depicted in this film caught my neopagan eye. One was a very tall proportionately slender obelisk-like temple, maybe darker in color, with a base that curved out wider. I couldn't find an image of it, but it struck me as an impressive design. The other was a relatively small, open, circular, sun symbol monument.... shown up on the first image here. It was depicted on the top a mountain, with the sun's rays blasting upon it from an upward facing angle. That's struck me as impressive.

One touchy issue, which apparently this film was not able to avoid, was the "race and ancient Egypt" thing. Since so many sides want "their way," and because there were different racial/ethnic factions in ancient Egyptian history, this would be a whole posting that I don't want to do. Why was it just sort've okay for Thor's father to be Black in film? Anyway, there were different races shown in the movie, both as gods and humans. The two protagonists were played by men of European ancestry, and their romantic interests were played by mixed European/Asian women who looked like the exotic fantasy perception of "Cleopatra-types."

Ophiuchus: The 13th constellation of the Zodiac - Part 4

Ophiuchus Revealed

DoYourHomework2012

The answer to all the media hype about this "new" zodiac sign

I think (auh-fucus) could be the correct pronunciation.
Let's just call it "O" geesh!!!

Sources: Jennifer Kiza Jordan/Hattiesburg New Age Examiner, gettyimages.com, Licia Avelar, Megan Friedman, AstrologyZone.com, CNN.com

Astronomically, our sky literally "changed" in 2009. The Ophiuchus constellation was always there, but it just wasn't part of the sun and moon's orbit around the earth. As far as one's own astrological sign, this would only affect those who have been born after November of 2009. I'm sort've glad that I'm not going to lose my "Moonchild" status of the Cancer sign. You have both a sun sign, and also a "moon sign" which you may want to look up if you aren't aware of what it is. Some of the new Zodiac dates from different sources have been off by a day, so don't totally fix in on the dates listed in Part 2. Since there's a Zodiac of both Western Astrology and Astronomy, I'm not certain if this means that there's not going to be an "Age of Aquarius" after all?

Ophiuchus is patterned after the ancient Sumerian god Enki "the serpent holder." Apparently, Enki (also known as "the healer") is also the inspiration for what is used today as the symbol of the medical industry, known as the "medical staff." The astrological origin of Ophiuchus can be found in Babylonian/Sumerian, Hellenistic/Greek, Islamic, Western Hindu, and Chinese mythology. The astronomical origin is much more widespread. For example, Roman or Gaulish.
