Fall 2020: Part II - All Hallows Eve & Full Blue Moon Combo

The most beautiful animal in the world; the ultimate predator pound-for-pound

"The ancient feud between cat and dog is not forgotten in the north, for the Lynx is the deadly foe of the Fox and habitually kills it when there is soft snow and scarcity of easier prey."
-- Ernest Thompson Seton

Halloween and Full Hunter's Moon 2020

The Full Hunter's Moon (or Blue Moon) is a tweener, occurring at 10:49 EST on Saturday, October 31st. However, not just officially, but the tweener usually favors the coming night as far as fullness and brightness if even by a tiny degree. The next Halloween/Full Moon combo won't occur until 2039. This is special, and also more pertinent for believers that the veil between our world and the world of our ancestors is at it's thinnest at Samhain. So the full moon will heighten the connectivity. Also, it's important to remember that Samhain truly begins after midnight, the witching hour and November 1st. For those of ritual, this can't be missed! It's Samhain, Full Moon, and after midnight for the full ritual effect.

Brian's Story

Everything in life is perception

Brian is not a fictional character, but a real person. Years ago I worked for an accountant in central San Mateo County. In a location which was then suddenly considered "Silicon Valley," there was much construction being undertaken. This led to an army of contractors flooding in to try garnering some of those big contracts. My job entailed many odd jobs, such as dropping off payroll or construction sites, picking up tax related paperwork from contractors' homes, etc. Brian was a contractor who was actually a county native. He had gotten a big contract in downtown San Francisco, and his construction crew were on site when I started this job.

Brian was a tall strapping man in his late 30s, naturally he drove a pick up truck, short hair, and dressed in steel toed boots, jeans, and long sleeved plaid shirts. He didn't really look like the above image, like ripped, but just generally tall and strapping. He was very headstrong, managerial, and confrontational. He was perhaps more "confrontational" than actually hot tempered. It was a little hard to figure him out, but he exuded an energy that would discourage someone from playing around, joking, or messing with him as he swaggered around. He was physically imposing, which matched his personality. I recall late one day soon after I started this job that he called the office to verbalize the number of hours his workers had put in for the following weeks' payroll. I actually wasn't even aware that he called in the hours, so it caught me off guard. I recall of him saying in a belligerent tone of voice something like "I've got the hours! Are you ready!!"

For some reason, perhaps because I was getting ready to leave and was not expecting a hostile phone call at that point, I said "Yes" just as I was sitting down at the desk. He immediately started rambling off names and hours before I had actually gotten my hands on a pen and paper. I think I actually did a pretty good job of initially memorizing what he had said, and finally had gotten to writing it down. In my slightly stressed state, just as I was catching up with his belligerent ramblings, I said randomly in the lowest tone of breath "okay." I  was basically telling myself "Okay, I got this." Well, he obviously heard this, and I apparently said it in the middle of his rambling. These were indeed "belligerent ramblings" as he was practically spitting venom! After I said it, he screamed "What do you mean 'okay'!? I didn't even finish!!" It was subtly anti-climactic for me, as I had just caught up.

What could I say? I didn't want to lose this important client for the accountant. It was at least enough to gaslight me and make me ask myself "What am I doing here? Did I actually do anything wrong? Who needs this job anyway?" After saying something to the accountant/my boss the next day--which was something like "He's pretty difficult to speak with"--she did understand. He had other run-ins of that sort with the office, including her husband who was a very easy going guy. In fact, I later found out that he had given Brian a piece of his mind and then slammed the phone down during that episode, and he wasn't a big or loud guy either. Of course, he's not going to lose his job. He didn't even work for her tax and payroll service. When Brian was not in this type of mood, it was the exception.

Whenever dealing with him, I had to approach him like I was approaching a scorpion! I had to be honest and thorough. In other words, I had to make certain to cross all the t's and dot all the i's, even if he didn't like it. It was still better than having a big problem spring up later. He didn't like being asked questions. He would tolerate maybe one question while huffing and puffing slightly; so you knew that a second question would incite a flare up. As I found out later, it was less temperment and more entitlement. He wasn't merely happy to be making a fortune, but I'll get back to that later. His work crew, quite to the contrary of what I had come to expect from similar work environments, were quiet and subdued.

His life as a contractor, I could see, was like a dream job. He would show up at the site at 7:30 AM with materials and look over the blueprints. He would spot check the progress, make sure everyone knew what they were doing, and find out what materials were needed. By 9:00 AM, he could leave and do whatever he wanted. He lived in a suburban home in the San Mateo hills, which was a 30 minute drive (back then). He could go have breakfast or whatever; see a movie, anything. He often would go home, where his girlfriend would make him lunch. Basically all he had to do all day after 9:00 AM was to pick up materials and drop them off with one more trip to the site (maybe). It's a dream life, which of course makes one wonder why every day he acted like he can't stand the way life's treating him!

His girlfriend was perhaps 30, very pretty, pleasant, and would occasionally run errands for him in the form of a pick up or delivery; to the office for example. She was the polar opposite of him. I can't explain that one, but apparently he managed to avoid taking out his wrath on her. Perhaps he took miscreant personal pride in that trait or protocol. You would think the guy's life was a wreck--or he was being swindled or defrauded in some way--by the manner in which he treated people! Quite frankly, often in construction, there is a lot of verbal abuse.. and frequently it's dispensed by those who who make quite a bit more money than those who they direct this abuse towards. You would think that they would lighten up, especially with the profit they're raking in? Anyway, who really was this guy? Well, I finally got my answer.

I finally got the dossier on this guy from my bosses adopted son, and it's not at all what I expected. Brian was from a local family with some serious net worth. He took a year or two off after high school to hang out with his friends. When pressured a bit, he attended a local community college, but didn't finish. Again he bummed around with allowance money from his parents for a few more years. He worked a few odd jobs for some business concern of his parents, family friends, or one of his friends' parents. Finally, at age 30, after having done little work for the past 12 years, he went to contractors school. I suppose to his credit, and through cunning, he was able to get his license and exploit these connections.

What he also told me, which I found curious, was that Brian never worked with any tools himself. He didn't come up the ranks as a carpenter, cement, dry wall, etc, then rose up to become a contractor with some connections which he had built up. It was contractors school, start up money from his parents, and family business connections. That's pretty unusual, but there's nothing inherently wrong with it. The fact that he's such a tall, strapping, and headstrong guy was just the luck of the draw! Just because some kid came from a wealthy family doesn't mean they're somehow weak. I recall when I used to box in the amateurs, some of the boys from Marin County--one of the wealthiest counties in the country--could fight like hell! I mean, that would probably be rather unusual, but it isn't unheard of.

Still, the story of Brian--the WHOLE story--seems illegitimate to me. He never worked with his hands, yet he gets to act out the facade of self-made contractor/construction guy?? That, more than anything else! All the rest is just icing o the cake! If you think about it, people are judged for how they present themselves, mixed with circumstances. I have come across other men who work for their family's business, and yet swagger around like a self-made man, kicking ass and taking names... or at least acting out the fantasy! I have also come across guys who I know for absolute certainty were from a broken home, kicked out of the house at age 18, and never had a chance, and yet they're really easy going, no bitterness, and not ostentatious in any way. You're judged on how you're able to present yourself, for better or worse, regardless of background.

Brian socially defrauded the world! He didn't even had to cheat. It's not against any law to be verbally abusive, entitled, and just generally an evil man who prospers. That brings up the final point. When Brian, or other similarly privileged individuals, basically slam their fists on the table to get what they want... aren't they really just spoiled, entitled brats? A lot of these guys were mommy's special little boy, and are very accustomed to getting exactly what they want. They don't like taking "No" for an answer. However, to the unknowing observer, they could be self-made chads, kicking ass and taking names... you know the story. It's quite a quagmire if you really stop and think about it. You wouldn't know either way.

The book refereced in "West Memphis Three" trial

In the last week I viewed the three-part special on the Investigation Discovery channel entitled 'The West Memphis Three: An ID Murder Mystery'. The main suspect, Damien Echols, had a book which was conviscated by the police as evidence. The title of the book was 'Never On A Broomstick' (1971) by Frank Robert Donovan, who was not a pagan or occult writer in particular, and wrote a lot of books on a wide range of subjects. This was to have been the "proof" of the prosecution's narrative of some type of ritual murder. Echols, on the stand, said that he purchased the book from a public library at a sale of old books.

There was an underlined section of the book, regarding "the Devil," which was projected to serve as proof of Satanic ritual. I couldn't find that text. Echols said that the underlining was already present when he purchased the book. It appears likely that the three boys were not guilty, despite his testimony about having engaged in dark rituals in the woods, including activity consistent with Satanic rites. Whomever did commit the murders of the three young boys, it was determined that at least one of victims was sexually mutilated in a hideous manner while still alive.

One item which was confiscated by the police, if I recall correctly, was one of the old images of Baphomet holding a torch upon a hill. I wasn't able to find it online however. I was going to post it. HBO (Time-Warner) produced a documentary in 1996 entitled 'Paradise Lost: The Child Murders at Robin Hood Hills', which was sympathetic to the convicted. I could almost believe anything in this case, as it had many strange aspects to it. I would lean towards their innocence of the charges, with dark occultists in high places seizing the opportunity to prove that this was a case of fraudulent "Satanic Panic" in this one case.

Quotes from Damien Echols journal:

"Life is but a walking shadow. It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing." -- A Midsummer Night's Dream' by William Shakespeare

"Pure black looking clear my work is soon done here. Try getting back from me that which used to be." -- '...And Justice For All' by Metalica

"I've kicked open a lot of doors in my time, and I am willing to wait for this one to open, and when it does, I'll be waiting." -- The Twilight Zone

************

I knew people way back when, who saw heavy metal bands as a type of dark occult religion. They knew a lot of lyrics which they quoted, they wore the black t-shirts, they gave the horns, they had the posters in their bedroom, the black light bulbs, all the trappings! I never did that, even though I had some of the records, went to concerts, and wore a few t-shirts. Sometimes I wish I had been more into it. It would have been good practice to express oneself at an age where you're led around by the nose by everyone. Everyone with authority over you was an "expert" on just exactly what you "ought to be doing." If nothing else, it might have served as a symbol of personal sovereignty at a time when you're being pulled and contorted in so many different directions. I suppose if life was fair, we would get a dry run to middle age first, then start over at age 13 or so, knowing exactly what to do.

Christopher Brent

The Toccata and Fugue in D minor, BWV 565, is a piece of organ music written, according to its oldest extant sources, by Johann Sebastian Bach. The piece opens with a toccata section, followed by a fugue that ends in a coda. It is one of the most famous works in the organ repertoire. The piece has become an icon appearing in films and horror movies within pop culture. The work is often performed around Halloween - Much of the piece's origins itself are a mystery even to this day!

'So much more than an heiress'

H. Allegra Lansing - Medium.com - August 24, 2020

The story of Manson Family victim Abigail Folger

On August 9, 1969, members of a cult known as the Manson Family murdered five innocent people in Benedict Canyon, a wealthy neighborhood in the Hollywood Hills. The victims that night included pregnant film star Sharon Tate, successful men’s hairstylist Jay Sebring, an 18-year old recent high school graduate, a Polish swimming champion, and heiress Abigail Folger. More victims followed the next night.

But Sharon Tate obviously gets most of the attention, in terms of the victims. Beautiful, talented, young, kind, and devoted to her family. She was eagerly anticipating the birth of her first child, a boy, at the time of her birth. The baby died in utero, along with his mother.

But with the spotlight on Sharon — for understandable reasons — that light rarely shines on the other woman who was killed that fateful evening.

Abigail Folger was also young, talented, kind, hard-working and looking forward to her future. She was killed just two days before her 26th birthday.

Abigail Anne Folger grew up in wealth and privilege, in San Francisco. Her great-grandfather, originally from Nantucket, set off in 1850 with hopes of striking it rich in the California gold rush. Instead, he made his fortune with the import and roasting of coffee beans. James Ahearne Folger’s company bore his name and continued its success with each passing generation.

Folgers™ became the third largest coffee wholesaler in America, thanks to James’ grandsons, James III and Peter. The family sold the business to Proctor and Gamble in 1963 but continue to manage Folgers as a P&G subsidiary.

The Salzkammergut is revered for its idyllic Alpine beauty, sparkling lakes, and quaint villages. It’s a mountainous region spanning the Austrian states of Upper Austria, Salzburg, and Styria. The Salzkammergut (Estate of the Salt Chamber) is not only dotted with myriad lakes, but salt mines honeycomb the mountains and were once one of the Habsburg Empire’s biggest industries. Some of the mines are still in operation. The cavernous interiors of the Salzkammergut are just as grand in their way as the soaring scenery above ground.

'Mark of the Vampire' (1935) was my first Halloween month film this year, on either TCM or AMC. It was only one hour fifteen minutes long. I thought it was so-so, with Count Mora (Lugosi) acting as more of a decoy. The character, within the story line itself, was actually only pretending to be a vampire.

Hathor, Egyptian Cow Goddess of Love

Hathor is the Egyptian Goddess of love, childbirth, joy, music and motherhood. She was a cow Goddess and often depicted as either a woman with the head of a cow, or a woman with the ears of a cow and the horned uraeus crown on her head. Hathor is said to be a much older Goddess, her worship dates back to the Pre-dynastic period. She was a midwife Goddess and attended to all women's needs, as well a protectress to women who were pregnant. At her sacred festivals, and in her rituals of worship, dancing and music was always a big part of the celebration. Dancing was a primary component to her worship, as was music. Women would dance freely shaking their sistrums, a type of rattle, in honor of the Goddess of love and joy.

Dendera Temple of Hathor: One of the Best Temples in Egypt

Egypt has a storied history, filled with monuments and temples that are all amazing in their own way. But some were much more astonishing than others — and Dendera (also spelled Dandarah) just might be my favorite of the bunch. Its massive columns covered in hieroglyphics utterly dwarf you, and zodialogical creatures romp on the turquoise ceiling. Then there’s the secret passage below the temple.

All of these aspects make Dendera majestic, but there’s something else to it. Duke and I quickly realized that the temples we liked best were those not swarming with tourists. Yes, Abu Simbel is jaw-droppingly awesome, but while visiting there, I felt like a tourist. At Dendera, which we had mostly to ourselves, wandering the quiet, cool colonnade, looking up in awe, I felt like a pilgrim. I truly understood that this was a holy site, a sacred space.

From the 40s through the 80s, it was common for comic books to advertise all sorts of amazing items. Gags, magic tricks, and novelty items filled the pages and fascinated young readers. But the ad copy and illustrations were often fraudulent at best and hilarious in retrospect. I take a look at the history behind some of the more obvious scams that were advertised in comics.

The newts were like little green people. They're less than four inches from nose to tail tip.

The invisible glue

Near where I live, there are some trails along some old industrial sites, and behind a junior high school. There has been VH graffiti back there, consistently, for over forty years! Before I went there, during, and all the years since. It wasn't necessarily just the junior high experience, but after that, the HS years, say up to age 20 perhaps. Sometimes a regional/cultural peculiarity like that can be a great untold story.... almost like urban folklore. Only in this folklore there's no collective body, within a small locale, to gather and reflect. It's a type of pure social dynamic---for all that time, in all of those little social circles, in that 1 small place, in its own glory of being---which just "WAS!!" It seems like there ought to be a lot more to say about it, but its mysteries are what makes it special. Imagine all of those intragenerational stories; someone's first beer back along that trail at dusk, someone's first kiss, dealing with personal problems, maybe even someone's first social group that they felt a strong sense of belonging, etc. All along those trails, for all that time, amid VH or AC/DC scribbled on the wall as their defacto symbol.

It was highly regarded by European alchemists as the foundation of their art and its Hermetic tradition. The original source of the Emerald Tablet is unknown. Although Hermes Trismegistus is the author named in the text, its first known appearance is in a book written in Arabic between the sixth and eighth centuries. The text was first translated into Latin in the twelfth century. Numerous translations, interpretations and commentaries followed.

The layers of meaning in the Emerald Tablet have been associated with the creation of the philosopher's stone, laboratory experimentation, phase transition, the alchemical magnum opus, the ancient, classical, element system, and the correspondence between macrocosm and microcosm.

'Gods of Egypt' (2016) - movie review

Gods of Egypt

Gods of Egypt is a 2016 English-language fantasy film directed by Alex Proyas and featuring ancient Egyptian deities. It stars Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Brenton Thwaites, Chadwick Boseman, Élodie Yung, Courtney Eaton, Rufus Sewell, Gerard Butler and Geoffrey Rush. The film portrays a mortal Egyptian hero who partners with the Egyptian god Horus to save the world from Set and rescue his love.

Filming took place in Australia under the American studio Summit Entertainment. While the film's production budget was $140 million, the parent company Lionsgate's financial exposure was less than $10 million due to tax incentives and pre-sales. The Australian government provided a tax credit for 46% of the film's budget. When Lionsgate began promoting the film in November 2015, it received backlash for its predominantly white cast playing Egyptian deities. In response, Lionsgate and director Proyas apologized for ethnically inaccurate casting.

This is a fantasy film based on Egyptian mythology, with a heavy emphasis on the ancient Egyptian creation myth. There were three planes of existence: the earthly plane, the plane of the "gods," and the afterlife plane. It wasn't like the Greeks gods of film, looking over the affairs of humans; as some of the "gods" (male and female) here lived and ruled among humans. They were taller with superhuman powers, could morph into their individual mythological "stereotype" so to speak (jackal, hawk, etc.), can live a thousand years, and could transcend both the earthly plane and the plane of the gods. They could, however, be killed. Being supermen and superwomen, there was a powerful intended sexual undercurrent despite the film being appropriate for the entire family.

The film begins with a moving overhead shot that looked almost like a modern city with pyramids, temples, and palm trees. It quickly introduces the two protagonists: the youthful god Horus whose father Osiris is the King of Egypt, and the boyish young adult Bek. The god Horus has a slight attitude in the apparent process of finding himself, while the commoner Bek is energetically bouncing off of walls. Horus' love interest is Hather, the goddess of love; while Bek's love interest is young Zaya. Without giving away too much, Osiris' evil brother Set, played by zealous actor Gerard Butler of '300' fame, conducts a coup and takes over the nation.

When Horus attempts to stop Set, Set removes his eyes. However, those "eyes"--looking like glowing blue diamonds, are really more like stealing his high-tech device... they can be "put back." Every god and goddess has one of two such super "devices" specialized more specifically for them as individuals. This movie mixed high technology with an almost futuristic appearance, with the backdrop of ancient Egyptian style (landscape, architecture, dress). Bek steals the eye device, and soon teams up with Horus, and that's basically the gist of the movie. It's very fast paced, with many different computer generated scenes that make this a difficult movie to review if one wanted to sift through every scene and character. It's basically Set vs. Horace. Since I didn't give away anything beyond the first ten of fifteen minutes, I don't think I spoiled anything.

There are many other characters, such as the chief god Ra, which is Horus' grandfather. Set had already killed Osiris. Thoth is prominently featured. This was very much a fantasy movie, not so much because it was "fantasy"... but lets just say that it's very fast paced with many moving parts. The two protagonists grow on you as the movie goes on, and by the end become sort've a mutual-admiration-society.

Two apparently fantasy monuments depicted in this film caught my neopagan eye. One was a very tall proportionately slender obelisk-like temple, maybe darker in color, with a base that curved out wider. I couldn't find an image of it, but it struck me as an impressive design. The other was a relatively small, open, circular, sun symbol monument.... shown up on the first image here. It was depicted on the top a mountain, with the sun's rays blasting upon it from an upward facing angle. That's struck me as impressive.

One touchy issue, which apparently this film was not able to avoid, was the "race and ancient Egypt" thing. Since so many sides want "their way," and because there were different racial/ethnic factions in ancient Egyptian history, this would be a whole posting that I don't want to do. Why was it just sort've okay for Thor's father to be Black in film? Anyway, there were different races shown in the movie, both as gods and humans. The two protagonists were played by men of European ancestry, and their romantic interests were played by mixed European/Asian women who looked like the exotic fantasy perception of "Cleopatra-types."

ShadowFest 2016: October - A month of relevant dates III

ShadowFest - October 31

ShadowFest, a Treguenda of Stregheria, has been covered here before.

ShadowFest marks both the beginning and ending of our year. On November Eve, we mark the time when our Lady descends into the Underworld seeking to understand the Mystery of Death.

I find that November Eve marks the beginning of the rain/cold season. In other words, I think of May through October as the sunny/warm season; and November through April as the rainy/cold season. Actually in many pre-Christian traditions of Europe, April 1 marks the "new year." In most Stregherian traditions, apparently, the Winter (November 1) marks the "new year." It's just a matter of perspective. I'm sad to see the sunny season end, but also anxious to embrace the cold season.

Aradia teaches us that Nature is the Great Teacher, and that by participating in the seasonal festivals, we come to know the higher ways of the Spirit.

Understanding the Hidden World of Scavenger Pests | Raccoon Nation | Wildlife Documentary

Wildlife Documentary

Welcome to WILDLIFE DOCUMENTARY - home of the best documentary films and documentary movies on wildlife, animals, nature, planet and universe.

The raccoon, sometimes spelled racoon, also known as the common raccoon, North American raccoon, northern raccoon and colloquially as coon, is a medium-sized mammal native to North America. The raccoon is the largest of the procyonid family, having a body length of 40 to 70 cm (16 to 28 in) and a body weight of 3.5 to 9 kg (8 to 20 lb). Its grayish coat mostly consists of dense underfur which insulates it against cold weather. Two of the raccoon's most distinctive features are its extremely dexterous front paws and its facial mask, which are themes in the mythology of several Native American ethnic groups. Raccoons are noted for their intelligence, with studies showing that they are able to remember the solution to tasks for up to three years. The diet of the omnivorous raccoon, which is usually nocturnal, consists of about 40% invertebrates, 33% plant foods, and 27% vertebrates.

The original habitats of the raccoon are deciduous and mixed forests, but due to their adaptability they have extended their range to mountainous areas, coastal marshes, and urban areas, where some homeowners consider them to be pests. As a result of escapes and deliberate introductions in the mid-20th century, raccoons are now also distributed across mainland Europe, Caucasia, and Japan.

Though previously thought to be solitary, there is now evidence that raccoons engage in gender-specific social behavior. Related females often share a common area, while unrelated males live together in groups of up to four animals to maintain their positions against foreign males during the mating season, and other potential invaders. Home range sizes vary anywhere from 3 hectares (7 acres) for females in cities to 50 km2 (20 sq mi) for males in prairies. After a gestation period of about 65 days, two to five young, known as "kits", are born in spring. The kits are subsequently raised by their mother until dispersal in late fall. Although captive raccoons have been known to live over 20 years, their life expectancy in the wild is only 1.8 to 3.1 years. In many areas, hunting and vehicular injury are the two most common causes of death.

*************************

This documentary also shows how raccoons have fanned out and are now very numerous in Germany, Japan, and other places which they have been introduced. From personal experience, raccoons are not a problem if there are no access points into any structure, no food sources, and no water sources. People don't rinse out their garbage and recyclables, and later the raccoons smell it. Old food or chicken bones can be tossed out on the morning of garbage pick ups or discarded by hand into a public waste can.

What is the average age of rocks that I find when out and about?

I'm a PhD geologist. It completely depends on where you live. Within a mile of my house, there are rocks that range in age from Precambrian (570 million years old) to Quaternary sediments (10,000 years old). Depending on where live, you can probably find a local geologic map (either from your federal or state/regional geological survey) that will indicate the age of the rocks and sediments in your area.

Roman Emperor Maximinus Thrax - 8 foot 6 inches??

Appearance

Ancient sources, ranging from the unreliable Historia Augusta to Herodian, speak of Maximinus as a man of significantly greater size than his contemporaries. He is, moreover, depicted in ancient imagery as a man with a prominent brow, nose, and jaw; symptoms of acromegaly. His thumb was said to be so large that he wore his wife's bracelet as a ring for it.

According to Historia Augusta, "he was of such size, so Cordus reports, that men said he was eight foot, six inches (c. 2.5 metres) in height". It is very likely however that this is one of the many 'tall tales' in the Historia Augusta, and is immediately suspect due to its citation of 'Cordus', one of the several fictitious authorities the work cites.

Although not going into the supposedly detailed portions of Historia Augusta, the historian Herodian, a contemporary of Maximinus, mentions him as a man of greater size, noting that: "He was in any case a man of such frightening appearance and colossal size that there is no obvious comparison to be drawn with any of the best-trained Greek athletes or warrior elite of the barbarians."

Some historians interpret the stories on Maximinus' unusual height (as well as other information on his appearance, like excessive sweating and superhuman strength) as popular stereotyped attributes which do no more than intentionally turn him into a stylized embodiment of the barbarian bandit[40] or emphasize the admiration and aversion that the image of the soldier evoked in the civilian population.

*************************

The above image is not Maximinus Thrax, but the remains of an ancient 12-foot Irish giant. Like in the vast majority of cases of this type, this fossil disappeared. However, we can definitely say that there have been humans who were about 9-feet tall in the distant past, so the claim of Maximinus Thrax's height has some president. I would guess that he was probably more like 7-foot-plus.

I remember a few years ago, my mother contracted MRSA and had to spend six weeks in a nursing and rehabilitation center down the coast, and as she was recovering I remember hearing this soundtrack on the large stereo system in the rec room there. It was starting to get dark, so it was a bit dim in there, I was alone with a beautiful view of the wooded Santa Cruz Mountains. It felt inspirational to hear it on that speaker system... especially at that time. I think partly why people love American Westerns, because there's a sense of freedom, and that soundtrack reflected that well.

The forgotten contender

Boxing was really big back in the 80s, and many good contenders of that era are all but forgotten today. I boxed as a teenager back then, and followed the weekly bouts on the early ESPN boxing... "Thursday Night Fights." One boxer who came out've that circuit was Philadelphia's Roger Stafford. After being featured numerous times on ESPN, he was able to get a bout with famous former welterweight champion Pipino Cuevas from Mexico City. Cuevas was such a hard puncher that he could actually break a speed bag off it's hinges.

I recall this bout was featured on a special Saturday edition of the popular program... sort've a big deal. That was back in the early cable TV days where you had a sliding tuner with about 25 channels. Stafford went on to defeat Cuevas by decision in Ring Magazine's "upset of the year," dropping him in the second round. As is often the case, rather than being a springboard to bigger things, it ended up being the 27 year old boxers' only big moment in the sun. Although there's nothing wrong with that, it probably wasn't what he expected.

Roger Stafford was next scheduled to meet welterweight champion Sugar Ray Leonard in a world title bout. Leonard, however, was forced to retire due to a retinal injury. I think Stafford could have given Leonard a good test, but it never happened. It was billed as "The Battle in Buffalo," not because it was a major bout, but because any Sugar Ray Leonard bout was big back then. Later, Stafford lost to a couple of young and highly touted welterweights, and retired. I was amazed that someone on YouTube actually uploaded the 1981 Cuevas-Stafford bout.

WARNING: SATANIC TEMPLE OPENS HEADQUARTERS IN SALEM!

A Call For An Uprising

*************************

This is yet another example of at least some Satanists pimping European magical traditions. I'm not putting down the early Saturnian cultures, and would have no problem with anyone who wanted to bring back certain elements of it. This, however, reflects an almost symbiotic relationship between zealous Christians and Satanists, who each need the other to survive... so they have to keep raising the stakes. If any social construct actually needs to create a boogy man in order to thrive.. it must have something internally wrong with it. Satanists have no basis in opening a headquarters in Salem. They're attempting to cut themselves in on "Christian guilt."

Massive amount of water underneath the Sahara desert

Libya under Gaddafi was beginning to tap into this resource, but he was assassinated and the facilities were later bombed. It's still interesting to ponder how all of that water can be so far down underneath that incredibly large inhospitable desert region. Those caverns must be so massive!

'Huge water resource exists under Africa'

Matt McGrath Science reporter - BBC.com - April 20, 2012

Scientists say the notoriously dry continent of Africa is sitting on a vast reservoir of groundwater.

They argue that the total volume of water in aquifers underground is 100 times the amount found on the surface.

The team have produced the most detailed map yet of the scale and potential of this hidden resource.

Egyptian pyramids were once covered in white limestone bricks

Apparently centuries ago, these bricks were removed and used to construct mosques. Quite frankly, they ruined the pyramids.

'The Pyramids of Giza Were Originally White'

TodayIFoundOut.com - April 29, 2011

Today I found out the pyramids of Giza were originally white.

When the pyramids were originally finished, they were plated in and outer layer of  white “casing stones”.  These casing stones were cut with astounding precision to give a smooth slope to the pyramids, unlike how they appear today with the outer stones more or less forming very large “steps”.

The original casing stones were made of highly polished Tura limestone, meant to reflect the sun’s rays, and were accurate within 1/100th of an inch.  All total, they were around five feet long, five feet high, and six feet deep and weighed around 15 metric tons each once the face angle was cut, being around 40 metric tons before that for the full block.

So what happened to these casing stones?  Many of them were cut loose and carried off to be used on various other structures, such as when Bahri Sultan An-Nasir Nasir-ad-Din al-Hasan used the polished stones from the Great Pyramid in building mosques in Cairo, some of which are still standing with these stones still intact.

Syfy's new series 'Aftermath', CERN, and the Large Hadron Collider

I've watched the first two episodes of the Syfy channel's new "end times/doomsday" series 'Aftermath', and I have a suspicion that it may be partly based on the real or perceived dangers of the Large Hadron Collider and the production of anti-matter. Even mainstream scientists Stephen Hawking and Neil deGrasse Tyson have stated that anti-matter could implode the earth or even the universe.

DARK SECRETS: INSIDE BOHEMIAN GROVE

Unfortunately, this is on-topic. The global elite are indeed largely members of a type of religion. There are so many things that can be said about these people. The power, the deceptions, the hypocrisy, the evil, the privilege, the insulation from justice, the corruption, the false hats, the coercion, and the outright lies. This religion, at least on the surface, is ideologically Luciferian which is a philosophy that condones almost anything to achieve wealth and power; as well as being based on the ancient Saturnian cults and "Mystery Schools." They believe that these mystery schools included the Druids, although I'm not convinced of that. They at least pretend to worship "EL," the god of Saturn. The owl symbolizes EL ("ow-EL").

The Order Of Death - Alex Jones Documentary

The Order of Death picks up where Dark Secrets: Inside Bohemian Grove leaves off. This new work exposes the connections between the Bohemian Club and Skull and Bones and other occult secret societies. Jones explores the roots of the Grove and its links to occult networks dating back to ancient Egypt and Babylon.

This new film delves deeply into the history of the Grove where powerful men make decisions that affect the world but are completely hidden from public scrutiny. The Order of Death details how the Grove has been the backdrop for some of the most earthshattering events in human history including the development of the Starwars program and the Manhattan Project.

Jones' newest forray into revealing the occult also had him butting heads with local protesters of the Grove who, like the owl-worshippers inside, try to conceal their own occult practices.

The Order of Death also features never before seen footage captured by a daring former Grove employee including an astounding look inside the owl worshiped at the Cremation of Care ritual.

Roman City Carnuntum

From 28 May to 12 June 2016, Carnuntum will host a Roman Festival for the very first time at all of its major venues spread over three consecutive weekends. Legionaries, gladiator fights, handicraft, Roman dancers and open-air cinema, Roman delicacies and the world premiere "Carnuntum and the Roman emperors" will enthrall audiences from all over.

*************************

Carnuntum has been covered here before, the Roman military base constructed as a political vehicle for the expansion of the empire into the ancient German transalpina. They never did conquer the German tribes, but the powerful site does represent the edge of the northeast Roman world. Guido von List was fascinated with the site with the large arched gate, the leftover entrance point of the original wall, was called "Pagan's Gate" when the locals thought it had been constructed by pagans in the distant past. I think Carnuntum can, in some ways, be thought of as sort've a folk pagan conflation of Roman-German-Celt.

CVLT Nation Exclusive - Interview with Veleda Thorsson

Meghan - CvltNation.com - July 10, 2012

Interview by Holy Mountain, photos by Veleda Thorsson

I love art of any medium that can transport me outside of my current earthly residence. Veleda Thorsson is a photographer currently working in the pacific northwest who armed with a camera, the world around her and a keen eye is creating other worlds and new realms from what mostly goes unnoticed. My first experience with her work was the beautifully rendered cover of Agalloch’s “Marrow of the Spirit”. Her photograph perfectly accentuated the music bringing to life a visual representation of what Agalloch brought forth sonically. Here is a short interview I had the pleasure of conducting with Veleda about her work, inspiration and ethics.

How long have you been and what inspired you to become a photographer?

My passion for photography actually grew out of my obsessive storm chasing when I lived in Phoenix, AZ back around 1997. I loathed living in the desert and would find comfort in tracking the massive thunderstorms as they would roll into the region. Once I would find a strong enough storm, either by watching the news or the internet, I would race far out into the desert to get ahead of it so that I could experience the beauty and power as the storm as it traveled over me. I started taking an old Canon A1 film camera with me and soon was hooked on photographing not only the storms but also the rare beauty of the desert when it is cast in the unusual lighting of an oncoming thunderstorm.

The Lords of Salem symbol

parlorofhorror.wordpress.com

The symbol painted on the heads of the witch’s coven:

The symbol is most likely a mirrored variation of the astrological sign for Algol. Algol is called the unfortunate star and is often associated with violence. A second possibility is the symbol for Mercury, which is the God of War in mythology. Backing this thought is the quote from the movie, “you have to realize, there is a war going on in Heaven.”

Yahoo Answers

What does the Lord's Symbol on the forehead mean in The Lords of Salem movie by Rob Zombie?

The symbol was invented for the film, but likely inspired by symbols used in alchemy and astronomy, such as the alchimical symbol for quick lime: http://www.fileformat.info/info/unicode/char/1f741/index.htm
or the element mercury: http://www.symbols.com/encyclopedia/05/0518.html
and Jupiter's staff: http://www.symbols.com/encyclopedia/11/119.html
or upside-down Greek letter Psi: http://www.fileformat.info/info/unicode/char/3a8/index.htm
or even Az, the first letter of the Glagolitic alphabet:
http://www.fileformat.info/info/unicode/char/2c00/index.htm

The symbols for vinegar and arsenic have similar elements:
http://www.fileformat.info/info/unicode/block/alchemical_symbols/images.htm

It may be a stylized version of an inverted kabbalistic symbol for the star Procyon
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stars_in_astrology#Procyon

It may be inspired by the esoteric Hieroglyphic Monad occult symbol:

In the film the symbol is used to draw connections between the characters and visually indicate certain objects and people are affiliated with the occult and witchcraft.

Names of few demons, cosmic symbols and other strange writings were found along the 2000-year-old skeletons

'Ancient Black Magic Unlocked? Archeologists Find Devil-Invoking Spells, Skeletons in Serbian Grave'

By A. Vila - NatureWorldNews.com - August 11, 2016

With death comes a divine power or curse? Archeologists in Serbia stumbled upon strange, creepy inscriptions alongside 2000-year-old skeletons buried in an ancient Roman grave.

According to Reuters, the strange finds were unearthed at the foot of a massive coal-fired power station in Kostolac, site of the Roman city Viminacium between the 1st and 6th century A.D.

The report added that the inscriptions, believed to be magic spells, were found on the rolls of gold and silver plates.

"The alphabet is Greek, that much we know. The language is Aramaic -- it's a Middle Eastern mystery to us," Miomir Korac, chief archaeologist at the site in eastern Serbia, told the outlet.

Archaelogists admitted that they still have not figured out whether the magic spells are meant for good or bad. But they noted that the containers closely resemble amulets of "binding magic."

Paganwicca, a website that shares knowledge about charms and spells, explains that binding spells are often used to keep the individual from causing harm to themselves or to others.

Another insight provided by Psychic Lessons said binding spells can also be used as a love spell by tying someone to you. The magic, as the website explains, would produce an energetic bond between two people to create an undying attraction between their souls.

In addition, History Blog said the amulets found could have been cursed tablets which called on spirits, demonic or divine powers to wish harm to someone.

Nonetheless, archaeologist Ilija Dankovic believes the charms were buried with someone who had a "violent death," so that they would be able to find peace in their demise.

"We read the names of a few demons that are connected to the territory of modern-day Syria," Dankovic added.

The archeologists are still trying to decipher the exact meaning of the inscriptions, which also include symbols possibly representing astrological signs or cosmic forces.

Bob Wilkins: Watch Horror Films, Keep America Strong

Bob Wilkins

A favorite slogan of Bob Wilkins, legendary Creature Feature host.

*************************

Bob Wilkins (April 11, 1932 – January 7, 2009) was a television personality born as Robert Gene Wilkins in the town of Hammond, Indiana. Wilkins was best known as the creator and host of a popular television show named Creature Features that ran on KTVU in the San Francisco Bay Area from 1971 to 1984, and which premiered with Del Tenney's infamous The Horror of Party Beach. The programming on Creature Features featured science fiction and horror film; everything from the classics, such as Bride of Frankenstein to turgid turkeys like The Vulture. More often than not, the films were good, and sometimes the show hit benchmarks: George A. Romero's Night of the Living Dead had its world television premiere on the show, just a couple of years after its original theatrical release. Wilkins' style of wit was very dry, and fit very well with some of the "schlockers" he was forced to air, which was a big part of his appeal to his fans (somewhat in the style of Mystery Science Theatre 3000). As host of the show, his droll humor and onmnipresent cigar became his trademarks.

Creature Features was a generic title for a genre of horror TV format shows broadcast on local U.S. television stations throughout the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. The movies broadcast on the various shows were generally classic and cult horror movies of the 1930s to 1950s, the horror and science-fiction films of the 1950s, British horror films of the 1960s, and the Japanese "giant monster" movies of the 1960s and 1970s.

BobWilkins.net

*************************

I can recall at a child looking out our large window across the bay at the Oakland waterfront where KTVU was/is located, and knowing that our local version of 'Creature Features' was produced and filmed there. At that time in the 70s, there were only five TV channels on the dial, along with several small stations that could be tuned in, so things were much simpler then. I was the only one of my friends who had my own TV, a little ten inch black and white. Apparently it was filmed in the KTVU basement, giving it a wonderfully crude feel to it. Bob Wilkins hosted the program, which was aired on both Friday and Saturday nights and usually with a double feature, from 1971 to 79. He had hosted apparently the Sacramento version from 1967 to 71, and a long fan of the program John Stanley took over as host for the last six years. For some reason, the YouTube channel dedicated to the late Bob Wilkins took off several of the more interesting stylish and memorable opening themes of the show.

Bob Wilkins was sort've nerdy and oconic, and he actually wasn't even a particular fan of the horror genre. He would often half heartedly try to discourage people from staying up too late or would sometimes admit it if movie wasn't very good. I remember they frequently featured George Romero's 1968 low budget classic 'Night of the Living Dead' since it always received good ratings. He always had totally off beat guests, further giving the program a pleasant garage production feel to it. I remember an interview a few years ago on Coast to Coast AM with John Stanley who knew the complete history of this and other "Creature Features" programs across the country. It was very interesting. And of course, they always had big Halloween specials throughout the month of October. They would always keep viewers up to date with traveling horror and sci-fi themed conventions.

The internet apparently under UN control

Now we just have to play the waiting game. A nice fox is now in charge of the chicken house, and we are the chickens. Literally almost anything can happen in time as a result of handing it over to the UN. I'm still not clear as to actually how much power and influence "they" will have. The UN doesn't recognize any 1st Amendment rights. We've already seen some very inconsistent censorship, for example on twitter, where someone may be muted for something small and inconsequential while another person is simply allowed to call for violence against individuals. Americans are not aware that the Canadian government has, for twenty years, attempted to censor websites through threats to American-based internet service providers. Now that same government, and many much worse, will have a say on what will happen with free speech. Dozens of very powerful special interests around the world are just salivating at the possibilities.
