Tana's Day 2019 - Part IV

The Full Pink Moon

This year it's a tweener, taking place at 7:12 AM EST on Friday, April 19. On the west coast it's perhaps more on "Thursday evening"; officially it's on Friday evening.

************

April’s full Moon is called the Full Pink Moon, heralding the appearance of the “moss pink,” or wild ground phlox—one of the early spring flowers.

'Now We Know That Dark Matter Isn’t Primordial Black Holes'

Matt Williams - Universe Today - April 6, 2019

For over fifty years, scientists have theorized that roughly 85% of matter in the Universe’s is made up of a mysterious, invisible mass. Since then, multiple observation campaigns have indirectly witnessed the effects that this “Dark Matter” has on the Universe. Unfortunately, all attempts to detect it so far have failed, leading scientists to propose some very interesting theories about its nature.

One such theory was offered by the late and great Stephen Hawking, who proposed that the majority of dark matter may actually be primordial black holes (PBH) smaller than a tenth of a millimeter in diameter. But after putting this theory through its most rigorous test to date, an international team of scientists led from the Kavli Institute for the Physics and Mathematics of the Universe (IPMU) has confirmed that it is not.

************

Dark Matter: Bottom Line Fact

What we know of as "matter" represents only a sampling of 5% of total matter. The other 95% being "dark matter."

************

Dark matter is a supersolid that fills ’empty’ space, strongly interacts with ordinary matter and is displaced by ordinary matter. What is referred to geometrically as curved spacetime physically exists in nature as the state of displacement of the supersolid dark matter. The state of displacement of the supersolid dark matter is gravity.

The supersolid dark matter displaced by a galaxy pushes back, causing the stars in the outer arms of the galaxy to orbit the galactic center at the rate in which they do.

Displaced supersolid dark matter is curved spacetime.

In the Bullet Cluster collision the dark matter has not separated from the ordinary matter. The collision is analogous to two boats that collide, the boats slow down and their bow waves continue to propagate. The water has not separated from the boats, the bow waves have. In the Bullet Cluster collision the galaxy’s associated dark matter displacement waves have separated from the colliding galaxies, causing the light to lense as it passes through the waves.

Eerie photo from the demented collection of serial killer Rodney Alcala. Nobody even knows who all of these photographs are of, but hopefully they weren't among his many victims. He murdered 50 women, and many experts thing that he murdered many more... as many as 150. Of course, the photos appear innocent. There's even one of Alcala holding a female child, which is quite creepy since he actually murdered little girls as well.

'Abandoned Town of Cairo, Illinois'

A once-booming Mississippi River port town has transformed into an eerie, mostly abandoned ghost town.

From Atlas Obscura

Situated at the confluence of the Mississippi River and the Ohio River, at the southernmost point in Illinois, the port town of Cairo (pronounced CARE-o) boomed along with the steamboat industry. When railroads crisscrossed the United States some of the steamboat traffic was subtracted, but Cairo was also an important station point along numerous train lines.

Today, however, a walk or drive through Cairo will find it eerily empty. The historic downtown area, once bustling and busy, is now filled with crumbling brick and plywood-covered windows. Cairo has been decaying for decades, and currently the business district is virtually totally boarded up, tumbling down, or razed. The deterioration has slowly made its way “uptown” (northwest) into residential neighborhoods as well.

The town has mostly been abandoned because of its economic desperation, though its history of racial tension certainly didn’t help. The Civil War Reconstruction period brought a migration of African Americans to Cairo. Racial tensions were always high in the community, but as the shipping and ferrying industries declined, jobs grew more scarce and the racial unrest intensified.

"Breaking the Folk Spirit" - How folk cultures are easily subjugated after their gods are destroyed

 Cusco Cathedral

The Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption of the Virgin, also known as Cusco Cathedral, is the mother church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cusco. The cathedral is located on the Plaza de Armas. Building was completed in 1654, almost a hundred years after construction began.

Kiswarkancha

The Incas built the temple known as Kiswarkancha on the main square in Cusco. It was the Inca palace of Viracocha, ruler of the Kingdom of Cusco around a century before the Spanish colonists arrived. The aboriginal name of this city was Qusqu. Although it was used in Quechua, its origin has been found in the Aymara language. The word itself originated in the phrase qusqu wanka ("Rock of the owl"), attending to the foundational myth of the Ayar siblings.

Near to the Kiswarkancha was the Suntur Wasi, an armoury and heraldry centre for the Inca royalty. When the Spanish conquistadores arrived in Cuzco, they decided to take down the temple and build their Christian cathedral in that prominent site.

Basilica Cathedral of our Lady of Assumption

The cathedral's construction began in 1559 on the foundations of Kiswarkancha. It is shaped like a Latin cross. The location of Viracocha's palace was chosen for the purpose of removing the Inca religion from Cusco, and replacing it with Spanish Catholic Christianity. Because 1559 was only 26 years after the conquistadores entered Cusco in 1533, the vast majority of the population was still of Quechua Inca descent. The Spaniards used the Incas as a labour workforce to build the cathedral.

************

The Method

One of the greatest unsolved mysteries of all time; how did less than 200 Spanish soldiers defeat an Inca Empire in the millions? There were about 40,000 actual Incas who systemically ruled over many other tribal regions who were like Inca provinces. Ironically, the Incas were actually, in some ways, guilty of what I'm pointing out in this piece. Their god was put above all others, although I don't know if they actually suppressed other traditions. In any case, they were a powerful empire who could easily raise a standing army of a quarter of a million. Their capitol was Cusco, as well as the location of their main temple. It's interesting that the Spanish kept the name "Cusco," but the folk tradition had to go. Jesus was to have said "Conquer in my name," and they did it. No more Viracocha. In this way their actions were similar to the Romans' M.O.; to replace and/or smother out the old ways of a conquered people.

This Roman method was a relatively soft way of pacifying a defeated people. Sometimes it was even a way of pacifying sovereign allies, such as with some Germanic tribes. For example, they would conflate Wotan with their god Mercury; then recruit some of them into their own military ranks. The Spaniards of Peru seemed to use some of the tricks out of the old Roman game plan; only in this case they decided to explicitly bury the old Inca spiritual tradition. Since you can't eliminate "a place," they decided to replace/"smother" out the the temple. While Muslims used brutal methods, Christians often used deception. The developing theory is that the Spaniards benefited from a period of growing discontent within the Incan "provinces." Some of the tribal groups sided with the Spaniards, and that is probably "how the west was won" in South America; somewhat similar to how certain tribes sided with the British or French during the "French and Indian War."

Catholic or Protestant authorities have always wielded power from behind the scenes. The Vatican's actions in Croatia during WW2 was nothing short of stunning; the church was literally still killing people via proxy because of their religion in the 20th century! It was no accident that churches were built right on top of ancient Druidic temples, although the Christianizing of the Druids was a much less violent conflation and conversion than that of the Germanic peoples. Charlemagne used the most brutal methods; and during later periods, incoming Christian authorities cut off Viking trade routes if they refused to convert. Even people like St. Patrick weren't really who we may have thought they were. St. Patrick was an English Catholic who used conflation and deception to get the job done.

If we're totally honest, incoming pagan invaders sometimes did the same thing; such as when Olympian gods replaced the more ancient goddess Hecate. In the Val Camonica there is evidence of how, in certain instances, one goddess statue's head was knocked off and another god or goddess' statue was constructed next to it; then at a later point, that statue's head was knocked off, etc. Also, even in the still strongly pagan Val Camonica of the Middle Ages, the meaning of the name of the ancient goddess "Mona" was changed to "a whore" (ouch, that was difficult for me to type!). Everything about the ancient Camun culture was about the moon ("mon") and the moon goddess (Mona), and still this can happen when people forget their true folk past.

Huge multinational corporations from the United States, Western Europe, and elsewhere, used to work with Christian missionaries to first "soften up" the people whom they wanted to subjugate and/or "take their resources." Most often the grinning, well fed, perhaps drunken, and newly Christened people gave it away without a fight. I remember quacky Christian entrepreneur Bill Schnoebelen told a story once about how a newly arrived missionary, in rural Borneo, humiliated the local shaman to prove to the locals that Christ was really the way. In other words, that their own spirituality was a fraud and needed to go... permanently! Who knows if the story was even true, but this big business-missionary "dog and pony show" went on for centuries. The expanding Islamic program was more honest; it was either "convert"... or it was the sword.

Countdown to the Full Blue Moon (March 31) and the Pagan New Year (April 1) - Part 2

Ēostre - Everyone's Pagan Goddess for a day

For all intents and purposes, in North America, this Full Blue Moon will occur on "Friday night." I suppose that it will be perhaps just as full on Friday and Saturday evenings. Technically it occurs at 8:37 AM est. It works out perfectly since it overlaps with the April 1st Pagan New Year, or "Easter" after the Teutonic goddess Ēostre (Ostara) and with all of the rich Pagan symbolism.

Of course the Ostara seasonal celebration was March 19-22, so both dates would objectively work and are tied to our ancient past. I would like to think that the hollidays/festivals of Carnival, Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Ostara, and finally Easter---all rooted in ancient Pagan traditions---are something of a five-week countdown to the "Pagan New Year."

Externsteine Rocks Neolithic Astronomical Observatory

By Martin Gray - WorldReviewer.com

Located in the Teutoburg district, the sacred heartland of Germany, the Externsteine rocks were known as a place of pilgrimage in prehistoric, Celtic and early Saxon times. Pagan rituals were performed here until the 8th century AD, when Charles the Great cut down the sacred Irmensul tree, the German tree of life and symbol of the old religion. The earliest historical mention of Externsteine comes from the 12th century when the site came under the control of a nearby Benedictine monastery. A series of artificial caves, which had been carved into the base of the sandstone spires in ancient times, were enlarged and used as dwellings for Christian hermits and monks.

Atop the tallest rock spire are the well preserved remains of an enigmatic prehistoric temple. Different theories have been suggested concerning the identity of the temple's builders and the use to which it was put. Some have described the shrine as a Mithraeum, or sanctuary for Roman soldiers adhering to the Persian cult of Mithras, while other scholars believe that such deities as the Germanic Teut, the Nordic Wodan, or the Bructerian prophetess Veleda were worshipped in the sanctuary. What is known with certainty however, is that the temple was constructed according to astronomical orientations. The round window-like opening shown in the photograph has been demonstrated to have significant celestial alignments, including a view of the moon at its northern extreme and the sun at sunrise on the summer solstice.

Externsteine was once the reputed former haunt of the prophetess Veleda.

Strawberry Moon Wanderings

Full Moon and Summer Solstice double-combo on June 20th

There will be a full moon this Sunday evening the 19th... and into the 20th... the date of the Summer Solstice.

'Watch for the solstice full moon'

Bruce McClure - EarthSky.org - June 14-20, 2016

Tonight – June 19, 2016 – watch for a full-looking moon. This full moon and the June solstice – the Northern Hemisphere’s summer solstice and Southern Hemisphere’s winter solstice – fall on the same date this year: June 20, 2016. The moon turns full at 11:02 UTC and the solstice arrives some 11.5 hours later, at 23:34 UTC.

Although the full moon and solstice happen at the same instant all around the world, the clock reading differs by time zone. At U.S. time zones, the moon turns precisely full on June 20 at 7:02 a.m. EDT, 6:02 a.m. CDT, 5:02 a.m. MDT and 4:02 a.m. PDT. In other words, tonight’s moon is closer to full than tomorrow night’s moon.

The June solstice, featuring the sun at its northernmost point for the year, comes on June 20 at 6:34 p.m. EDT, 5:34 p.m. CDT, 4:34 p.m. MDT and 3:34 p.m. PDT.

Also, watch for the moon shining close to Saturn and the star Antares on June 19.

In the Northern Hemisphere, we call the June full moon the Strawberry Moon, Rose Moon or Flower Moon.

The "Blair Witch" Vehme and the Hermetic/ DaVincian "Vitruvian Man"

"BLAIR WITCH: A five-pointed compound symbol with a center triangle pointing down. The five lines resemble the microcosmic man with arms and legs outstretched inside a circle (with a pentagram in the background)--a magic symbol or charm among medieval alchemists and wizards."

When the term microcosm man came up in the above quote, we wren't sure what that was, but in quick time we found out. Basically its the Leonardo Da Vinci symbol of a man outstreched.

In the foundation of Hermeticism, in hidden societies of craftsmen and scholarly men, away from the eyes of the Church and its paranoia, the proto-science of alchemy developed along with its occult philosophy and  cryptical symbolism. Graphical and geometric symbolism became very important and the period of the Renaissance emerged.

The concept of the microcosmic world of Man as analogous to the macrocosm,
the greater universe of spirit and elemental matter became a part of  traditional western occult teaching, as it had long been in eastern philosophies, As Above, So Below. The pentagram, the 'Star of the Microcosm',  symbolized Man within the microcosm, representing in analogy the Macrocosmic universe.

The upright pentagram bears some resemblance to the shape of man with his
legs and arms outstretched. In Tycho Brahe's Calendarium Naturale Magicum
Perpetuum (1582) occurs a pentagram with human body imposed and the
Hebrew for YHSVH associated with the elements. An illustration attributed
to Brae's  contemporary Agrippa (Henry Cornelius Agrippa von Nettesheim) is of similar proportion and shows the five planets and the moon, at the center point, the genitalia. Other illustrations of the period by Robert Fludd and Leonardo da Vinci show geometric relationships of man to the universe.

Later, the pentagram came to be symbolic of the relationship of the head to the four limbs and hence of the pure concentrated essence of anything (or the spirit) to the four traditional elements of matter, earth, water,  air and fire - spirit is The Quintessence.

Cyndi Lauper - Time After Time

CyndiLauperVEVO

Cyndi Lauper's official music video for 'Time After Time'

************

I associate this song from when I was a boy and I had "missed my ride" as nightfall approached, and I decided to take a shortcut home by walking a trail system several miles through a county park. I remember it was a warm, clear, still night as I made my way through the wonderful darkness. I listened to this song during that trek on my very 80s Sony "Walkman." The video of this song tends to disassociate it from its higher calling...

'Time After Time'

Cyndi Lauper

Lying in my bed I hear the clock tick,
And think of you
Caught up in circles confusion
Is nothing new
Flashback warm nights
Almost left behind
Suitcases of memories,
Time after

Sometimes you picture me
I'm walking too far ahead
You're calling to me, I can't hear
What you've said
Then you say go slow
I fall behind
The second hand unwinds

If you're lost you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you I'll be waiting
Time after time

If you're lost you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you I'll be waiting
Time after time

After my picture fades and darkness has
Turned to gray
Watching through windows you're wondering
If I'm OK
Secrets stolen from deep inside
The drum beats out of time

'Pan's Labyrinth' (movie review)

'Pan's Labyrinth' - From 'The Greatest Movies Ever' (#24):

"Goya meets Alice in Wonderland in this genre-obliterating tour de force," Kinn and Piazza write of the 2005 film directed by Guillermo del Toro. "Intermingling dark and shimmering special-effects imagery with an abiding respect for character, del Toro questions our notion of the polarity between reality and imagination." The director was next to author Stephen King at a screening of the film and saw King shifting uncomfortably at some of the gorier sections. Del Toro said it was the greatest moment of his life. Actor Doug Jones played the creepy Pale Man and the Faun that speaks with girl explorer Ofelia, and he was the only American involved with the production as well as the only person who didn't speak Spanish. He had to memorize his lines as well as those of star Ivana Baquero, who played Ofelia, so he would understand when he was supposed to speak.

The protagonist is a little girl named Ofelia, whose widowed mother has just married a high ranking Fascist officer in 1944 Spain. They are going to live with him in a remote wooded mountain location, while he administers a local effort to crush the anti-Fascist rebels. It's not clear to me as to whether or not the rebels are Communists, or merely resisting a dictatorship. Clearly, they are portrayed as the "force of good"; and the Falange-Fascists are portrayed as evil, and in particular her stepfather is shown as an amoral monster! I mean, this guy outdoes any "Nazi character" or "evil stepfather" ever portrayed on film! Personally, I don't believe that Communists--with their clear history of incredible mass murder of tens of millions--are any better than Fascists, but that's another issue for another time. Through the dark imagery of the film, there is a whole tense social situation there, with rebels on the inside, and this little girl is right in the middle of this darkness and violence.

She is slowly guided into the spiritual milieu of "Pan," a ram-horned underworld entity. Since the director, Guillermo del Toro, has directed numerous films with Satanic-themes... I suspect that, to him, Pan represented Satan. Del Toro even said that the character is not Pan, but a "faun." He was portrayed as "firm but fair" (similar to the God of the Bible) as opposed to Captain Vidal.. who was a brutal torturer and murderer. The faun did say that Ofelia was "born from the Moon," of which she had a crescent moon birthmark that he reminded her of. This hints at the ancient Euro-pagan "horned god" and the "Moon goddess"... in other words, "European Witchcraft."

Slowly, the noble-hearted Ofelia, an avid reader of fairy tales, is drawn to the faun though an old nearby "Labyrinth." On a side note, a Labyrinth is a particularly important spiritual symbol to the ancient Camunni... as well as with a lot of other ancient peoples around the world. After awhile, amid Captain Vidal's dark heart and brutality, the faun doesn't seem like such a bad guy. The faun never confronts Captain Vidal, even though he believes that Ofelia is the soul of his long lost daughter. Despite his power, he operates and interacts with humans within the concept of "free will"... similar again to the God of the Bible. Also similar to the Biblical God, he suggests mortal violence as a means to "test an individual."

One character, who slowly grows on you during the movie, is Mercedes, Vidal's head housekeeper and sister of one of the rebel leaders. She is a good-hearted, strong, and brave character who takes a strong liking to Ofelia, and helps give her at least some kind of support system in this mess. Within this struggle for the soul of that nation, I found myself--for brief instances--thinking of Mercedes as a figure like Juana Galán.. maybe a national symbol if events had unfolded differently, if one could muse about a fictional character. There are three Spanish actors--in particular--whose great performances really make this movie. Sergi López as Captain Vidal, Maribel Verdú as Mercedes, and Ivana Bacquero as Ofelia. This movie won a lot of awards, which you can see in the 'Pan's Labyrinth' Wikipedia page. The ending of this film is very dramatic, but I don't want to spoil it.

Senobessus: Gaulish Polytheistic Reconstructionism

Gaulish Polytheistic Reconstructionism, or "Senobessus," is a branch of Celtic Polytheistic Reconstructionism. It focuses on specifically pre-Christian Gaulish paganism. I suppose a simpler way to put it is simply "Gaulish neopaganism." This movement, much of it very recent, has forced me to look hard at the Cernic Rite concept.

It has occurred to me that part of the mild friction between the simple naming of Germanic neopaganism is at work in its Gaulish neopaganist parallel as well. Should it be called "Odinism," or "Asatru?" Odin, while basically the chief god, is still just one of the gods and goddesses. Perhaps a non god-specific name for the pantheon would be more appropriate. The name "Asatru" is of Icelandic origin, making it regionally-specific, which has it's drawbacks as well. Naturally you want a name which includes everyone whom you wish to include. The Odinist/Wotanist story extended far from Iceland. A place like Russia is historically very much part of the "historical Wotanist narrative." Needless to say, the choosing of a name is very important.

Before I go any further, a brief description of the movement from PaganSpace.net (actually from the facebook page):

Senobessus: Gaulish Polytheistic Tribalism

Slania!

Welcome to The Gaulish Polytheism Community!

This group is dedicated to Senobessus

Senobessus, or Gaulish Polytheistic Reconstructionism, is a Celtic Reconstructionist faith that focuses on Pre-Roman Gaulish Religion, and its revival into the modern age. Our faith emphasizes orthopraxy or "right actions" over orthodoxy or "right belief", and cultural relevance or influence over "racial purity" or elitism. We are open to all genders and sexual orientations, ethnic backgrounds, and national affiliations.

Also, this description from nertho.eu:

Senobessus "The Old Custom"

I would like to formally introduce the philosophy and tradition of Senobessus, as a modern reconstruction of "The Old Custom" of Gaulish Religion, as it applies not only to modern spirituality, but the continued research and dedication of those who have been and are getting involved in Gaulish Polytheistic Reconstruction.

The following statements are in dedication of the hard work of the noble few in our tradition who continue to honor the Gods of Gaul...

Mission Statement of Senobessus

Senobessus is a Gaulish word that translates into English as “old custom”, and is the name we have given to our humble religion. It represents how our members honor the Gaulish customs within our communities, and the bonds we share not only with our gods, but the unspoken bond we share with each other.

Our religion is less of an organization and more of a tradition we share with each other. Though many have contributed in the past to the dissemination of Senobessus, no one person is responsible for founding it, as it has always been there in some form or another. More importantly, all members within Senobessus are, despite their different roles, essentially equal.

That being said, The Gaulish Polytheism Community group on Facebook was created on August 30, 2011 as a networking platform for Gaulish Polytheistic Reconstructionists, to focus on the continued development of religion and spirituality within Senobessus, and to study and share the language, history, and culture of Ancient Gaul.

The purpose of Senobessus is the revival of the pre-Christian worldview and spiritual practices of the Gaulish peoples – the ancient Celtic peoples who inhabited and greatly influenced what would become the cultures and nations within central Europe. Senobessus aims to reconstruct Gaulish Polytheism within a modern context, while still respecting what we know about the worldview of the ancient Gaulish people.

Before I go any further, I need to address the fifty-ton pink elephant in the living room. I don't see how a bunch of people of a particular culture, celebrating their heritage, is "elitism." I would like to see one of these "cultural apologists" knock on the door of one of the Sikh Temples and ask to join. The ultra-folkish, ancestral-worshiping Sikhs would get quite a kick out've that. I think it's pretty safe to say that they "may not join." It seems to be a phenomena, in the English-speaking world, for individuals to believe that "they can be anything!" Well, you can't be anything. ALL of us face rejection in our lives, and sometimes it's because we do not fit in. That's a basic FACT of life, and there's nothing wrong with it. You cannot be anything you want to be at any time you want to be it, based on your "whim of the moment," "current fad," or "fast value" of the day.

As far as the gay thing; given the types of problems and road blocks that we will face, "gays" would comparatively be a non-issue. The Gaulish spirituality/culture, as with other forms of European spirituality, was based primarily on the "family unit." Women, I believe, had extremely important leadership roles; probably more than in the Teutonic culture. Chiefly in the family, and in the realm of their tribal spirituality. In the area of spirituality, however, it would have been the more special women. In other words, I don't think just any woman can be an "Earth Mother" in the Wiccan sense. Then there's the Druidic element, which may have been predominantly males.

Getting back to choosing a name. Although I don't like this GPR-movement in it's present form; I still like the basic idea of it. Maybe we should run with it. Work within it. We live in a world where many people literally feel guilty for breathing, and are quite eager to give trillionaire international banking concerns a "world tax" to help ease their burden of guilt, so I don't have any problem purging them from any folk-movement that will eventually need to be splintered off. Incessant "guilt" is a Christian concept, not a pagan one, so I think that the universal Christian church is a good place for them. As far as a "Cernic Rite" or "Temple of Cern" name based on the chief Gaulish god; I suppose one could argue that we could just as well name it the "Sironic Rite" or the "Temple of Sirona," based on possibly the chief goddess of the Gauls (as least of the Cisalpine Gauls).

In conclusion, perhaps a landscape with a loose intellectual name "Gaulish Polytheist Reconstructionim," with the almost gratuitous "folkish" and "universalist" subsections, with name like "Temple of Cern" being given to its various local covens? As to whether it should lean more towards the Witches Sabbath or Druidism, I don't know. Since various spiritual traditions overlapped, this becomes a central issue. Personally, I tend to lean more towards the Witches Sabbath. That is the area, more than any other, which needs to be exorcised from the grip of political influence, any political influence. The Gaulish culture was strong in France (Gaul), the northern Italian peninsula, and much of the Iberian peninsula; but since Celtic peoples were present in every part of Europe, it leaves the door open. I just believe that, for example, a Cuban-American--who's also a European-American and a folkish-minded person--ought to feel at home in Gaulish neopaganism. Lastly, I would suggest an eight-pointed star as the chief symbol of this movement. It's perfect, with each point representative of each sabbat in the wheel of the year.
