Remembering Evelyn Paglini: Part VI

AB - Twelve Pack #6 - Evelyn Paglini Binge

Ghostly Matters

*************************

10 hours and 45 minutes of Evelyn Paglini on the old Art Bell Show. I listened to the whole binge on my iPod.  You can use ListenToYouTube.com to save any YT video on an mp3 file. I've been doing that with a lot of them lately since much of YT is audio programs and podcasts now. I didn't take notes, but the late Dr. Paglini had a tremendous about of knowledge and wisdom beyond just magick. She referred to herself as a "Metaphysician," and was indeed a Tuscan Strega by tradition.

Her website MysticalBlend.com is still up and running, and one of her old Art Bell programs and five of her newer Coast To Coast AM/George Noory programs are on their new YT page. That's at least twenty hours of listening right here. If anyone has any history, experience, or story about Evelyn, you may send it to camunlynx@live.com and it can be placed in this series, if it's long enough it may be posted as a separate posting. I know she has a much longer history than being a frequent guest on that popular radio program. I believe that she was a native of Illinois, but had long been based out of Sherman Oaks, California.

I had put up her bio from Mystical Blend, and I believe that they have updated it. There was one interesting part that I think is new: Dr. Paglini was the last in a thousand-year lineage of Strega Toscani occult practitioners. Those who are able to benefit from her power and guidance during this lifetime are indeed gifted, since hers is a destiny that can be acquired only by a chosen few.

The Rowan Tree in European mythology and folklore

The Rowan Tree

Wholesome Day

The rowans or mountain-ashes are shrubs or trees in genus Sorbus.

They are native throughout the cool temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere, with the highest species diversity in the mountains of western China and the Himalaya.

Formerly, when a wider variety of fruits were commonly eaten in the European and North American culture, Sorbus counted among the home fruits, though Sorbus domestica is all but extinct in Britain, where it was traditionally revered.

In the Canadian provinces of Newfoundland, Labrador and Nova Scotia, this species is commonly referred to as a "dogberry" tree.

Rowans are mostly small deciduous trees 10–20 m tall, though a few are shrubs.

The fruit has a 4 to 8 mm diameter and is bright orange or red in most species, but pink, yellow or white in some Asian species.

The fruit are soft and juicy, which makes them a very good food for birds, particularly waxwings and thrushes, which then distribute the rowan seeds in their droppings.

The fruit are eaten by about 60 bird species and several mammals.

The wood is dense and used for carving and turning and for tool handles and walking sticks.

Rowan fruit are a traditional source of tannins for vegetable dyes.

The fruit of European Rowan can be made into a slightly bitter jelly which in Britain is traditionally eaten as an accompaniment to game, and into jams and other preserves, on their own, or with other fruit.

The fruit can also be a substitute for coffee beans, and have many uses in alcoholic beverages.

It is used to flavour liqueurs and cordials and to produce country wine and to flavour ale.

The European rowan has a long tradition in European mythology and folklore.

It was thought to be a magical tree and give protection against malevolent beings.

The tree was also called "wayfarer's tree" or "traveller's tree" because it supposedly prevents those on a journey from getting lost.

Mythology and folklore

The European rowan (Sorbus aucuparia) has a long tradition in European mythology and folklore. It was thought to be a magical tree and give protection against malevolent beings. The tree was also called "wayfarer's tree" or "traveller's tree" because it supposedly prevents those on a journey from getting lost. It was said in England that this was the tree on which the Devil hanged his mother.

British folklorists of the Victorian era reported the folk belief in apotropaic powers of the rowan-tree, in particular in the warding off of witches. Such a report is given by Edwin Lees (1856) for the Wyre Forest in the English West Midlands. Sir James Frazer (1890) reported such a tradition in Scotland, where the tree was often planted near a gate or front door. According to Frazer, birds' droppings often contain rowan seeds, and if such droppings land in a fork or hole where old leaves have accumulated on a larger tree, such as an oak or a maple, they may result in a rowan growing as an epiphyte on the larger tree. Such a rowan is called a "flying rowan" and was thought of as especially potent against witches and their magic, and as a counter-charm against sorcery. In 1891, Charles Godfrey Leland also reported traditions of rowan's apotropaic powers against witches in English folklore, citing the Denham Tracts (collected between 1846 and 1859).

In Norse mythology, the goddess Sif is the wife of the thunder god Thor. Sif has been linked with Ravdna, the consort of the Sami thunder-god Horagalles. Red berries of rowan were holy to Ravdna, and the name Ravdna resembles North Germanic words for the tree (for example, Old Norse reynir). According to Skáldskaparmál the rowan is called "the salvation of Thor" because Thor once saved himself by clinging to it. It has been theorized that Sif was once conceived in the form of a rowan to which Thor clung.

In Neo-Druidry, the Rowan is known as the Portal Tree. It is considered the threshold, between this world and otherworld, or between here and where ever you may be going, for example, it was placed at the gate to a property, signifying the crossing of the threshold between the path or street and the property of someone. According to Elen Sentier, in her book, "Threshold is a place of both INGRESS (the way in) and EGRESS (the way out). Rowan is a portal, threshold tree offering you the chance of 'going somewherere ... and leaving somewhere."

In Newfoundland, popular folklore maintains that a heavy crop of fruit means a hard or difficult winter. Similarly, in Finland and Sweden, the number of fruit on the trees was used as a predictor of the snow cover during winter, but here the belief was that the rowan "will not bear a heavy load of fruit and a heavy load of snow in the same year", that is, a heavy fruit crop predicted a winter with little snow.

However, as fruit production for a given summer is related to weather conditions the previous summer, with warm, dry summers increasing the amount of stored sugars available for subsequent flower and fruit production, it has no predictive relationship to the weather of the next winter.

In Malax, Finland the reverse was thought. If the rowan flowers were plentiful then the rye harvest would also be plentiful.[citation needed] Similarly, if the rowan flowered twice in a year there would be many potatoes and many weddings that autumn.[citation needed] And in Sipoo people are noted as having said that winter had begun when the waxwings (Bombycilla garrulus) had eaten the last of the rowan fruit.

In Sweden, it was also thought that if the rowan trees grew pale and lost color, the fall and winter would bring much illness.

Protection against enchantment, psychic power, self-control

American Folkloric Witchcraft - November 1, 2011

The Rowan is sometimes referred to as the “Tree of Life” or the “Lady of the Mountain,” this tree is thought to protect against enchantment. The wood of this tree was often used for rune staves (sticks which are engraved with the Ogham or runs and used as a divinatory tool) and as a divining rod for metal.

Also used as a generally protective talisman, the branches of the Rowan Tree are hung over the doors of houses and barns to protect the inhabitants. It is planted in cemeteries in Wales to guard over the spirits of the dead. Babies’ cradles are often made of Rowan wood, as it is thought to keep death and harm away from the young. Some references claim that Rowan wood protects one from the Faery.

The Rowan berry has a pentagram in its center and is red in color. A necklace strung of the berries is said to protect the wearer from harm.

Rowan indicates an ability to contain control of your senses, provides protection from harm and a protection when engaged in battle. The element associated with the Rowan is Fire, and its gender association is male.

"I Wanna Be Loved By You" (Betty Boop version)

*************************

Darkly artistic scene from 'House of 1000 Corpses' (2003). Rob Zombie is a genius. I'm still waiting for him to equal this very creative grindhouse film. Much of the darkness and violence was put with unusual music, so it was almost like some dark/demented music videos. I mean who would have thought to put a disturbing massacre with Slim Whitman's 'I Remember You'!

"Art is not always pretty." -- Rob Zombie

I believe that the version used here was sung by Helen Kane. I think part of the idea behind this scene was the popular comic book character Lady Death.

Helen Kane - I Wanna Be Loved By You (1928)

'Lady Death: The Movie' (2004); full animated movie can be seen here)

One guy I used to hang around with had a somewhat aloof younger brother who was obsessed with Lady Death. He had all the memorabilia; comics, books, posters, etc. He was in his mid-20s, and a few of us used to joke on him. He wasn't the least bit shy about showing us all of this collection either. I guess one could say that this was his religion.

The Curse Of The 27 Club

Alltime Conspiracies

Over the last few decades, dozens of musical superstars have died - often dramatically - at the early age of 27. 'The 27 Club' has gained much infamy, its members including household names such as Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain and Amy Winehouse. But is there any truth to the idea? Could there really be some sinister, supernatural force linking the deaths of these icons?

Saturn Return

In horoscopic astrology, a Saturn return is an astrological transit that occurs when the planet Saturn returns to the same place in the sky that it occupied at the moment of a person's birth. While the planet may not reach the exact spot until the person is 29 or 30 years old, the influence of the Saturn return is considered to start in the person's late twenties, notably the age of 27.

Psychologically, the first Saturn return is seen as the time of reaching full adulthood, and being faced, perhaps for the first time, with adult challenges and responsibilities

'The Legend of the Catskill Witch'

George Baird and Erica Obey - MountainHikingSite.com

The legend of the Catskill Witch is as old as the gnomes playing at ninepins or the Headless Horseman, having made her first appearance as a postscript to Washington Irving’s tale of Rip van Winkle, where she is described as dwelling on the highest peak of the Catskills, and had charge of the doors of day and night to open and shut them at the proper hour. She hung up the new moon in the skies, and cut up the old ones into stars. In times of drought, if properly propitiated, she would spin light summer clouds out of cobwebs and morning dew, and send them off from the crest of the mountain, flake after flake, like flakes of carded cotton, to float in the air; until, dissolved by the heat of the sun, they would fall in gentle showers, causing the grass to spring, the fruits to ripen, and the corn to grow an inch an hour. If displeased, however, she would brew up clouds black as ink, sitting in the midst of them like a bottle-bellied spider in the midst of its web; and when these clouds broke, woe betide the valleys!

I believe they can.
I believe they do.
And by the end of this book, you will too.

*************************

The other day a black feather just made itself known to me by just being right there in my path. An interesting game to play is to find the synchronistic symbols that you may observe during the day. Most would be coincidence, but I believe that some are elemental symbols. This black feather was to my left...

"If the feather appeared on your LEFT:

This indicates a very strong SPIRITUAL message for you. Your higher self has brought you to this very moment to receive the message you are about to receive. Understand that this message is for your SOUL, your spiritual self, the shadow side of your nature, the dreamer and the lover within you."

'Encounter with two mountain lions was double the thrill'

Tom Stienstra - San Francisco Chronicle - June 20, 2016

[Above image: Photo: John Richards - Trail cam set up above Foothills Park near Skyline on Peninsula captured this shot of mountain lion meandering down trail]

At age 89, a hiker on the Peninsula encountered two mountain lions last week inside of 10 feet. Warren Storkman of Palo Alto then walked away without a scratch and with the thrill of a lifetime.

Storkman was hiking at Foothills Park in Palo Alto, where a trail is cut into the edge of a steep slope above a valley. At this spot, the landscape is grassland and chaparral.

“To my surprise, coming around a curve, a beautiful, youthful lion, running at top speed,” Storkman said. “It was being chased by another lion of the same stature.

Great song. I think one should be able to associate any music to whatever they wish. This song doesn't have to be for the Lord, or for Hare Krishna. It can be a tribute to a person, a place, a time, a dream, a concept, or whatever you wish. This would be a good example of that idea.

This song reminds of an old girlfriend named Francesca... a long time ago. We just weren't really on the same page. Oddly, over the years she became a little more like I was then; and I have become a little more like she was then. I suppose that means that it was never meant to be..

'Malleus Maleficarum' - "Hammer of the Witch"

Hammer of the witch || Malleus Maleficarum - The Book

Unfolded Mysteries

The above video deals with the detailed study of the medieval book malleus maleficarum commonly known as hammer of the witch.

Malleus Maleficarum

The Malleus Maleficarum (commonly rendered into English as "Hammer of the Witches"; Der Hexenhammer in German) is a treatise on the prosecution of witches, written in 1486 by Heinrich Kramer, a German Catholic clergyman. The book was first published in Speyer, Germany, in 1487. Jacob Sprenger is also often attributed as an author, but some scholars now believe that he became associated with the Malleus Maleficarum largely as a result of Kramer's wish to lend his book as much official authority as possible.

Both purported writers of the work were Dominican clergy, and the work came about as “the result of a peculiarly Dominican encounter between learned and folk traditions, an encounter determined in part by the demands of inquisitorial office, and in part by the requirements of effective preaching and pastoral care.” In 1490, three years after its publication, the Catholic Church condemned the Malleus Maleficarum, although it was later used by royal courts during the Renaissance, and contributed to the increasingly brutal prosecution of witchcraft during the 16th and 17th centuries.

'Malleus Maleficarum' - Free PDF download

Vehmic Court

The Vehmic Court predated the 'Malleus Maleficarum' by as much as two centuries, although it overlapped and no doubt absorbed it in Medieval German speaking socieities. In the same way that there was great irony in that the Vehmic Court actually used ancient German pagan symbols as it's own; I was thinking that the "Hammer of the Witches" reminds me of the Odinic Hammer of Thor. Certainly some of these German magickal traditions were conflated with Odinic tradition, therefore instead of Witches being "hammered"... it could almost be a symbolic protest to these policies of this time period by attaching that to Thor's Hammer in some form. I always say that if someone takes symbols away from you which were yours to begin with.... don't be intimidated.... yank it back from them! "Recapture the flag."

*************************

8-21-16 Addition: "Vehmgericht or Vehmegericht" simply means "Vehmic Court" in German. Also, in the section "Malleus Maleficarum" within the posting in the below link 'Legacies of Charlemagne', the year 400 for the Malleus Maleficarum was incorrect (he forgot the "1" in 1400). Lastly, I cannot find any reference to Charlemagne having founded any forerunner of the Vehmic Court, as it came into existence at least four centuries after his death.

I just wanted to make note of the "Vehmic alphabet" for further study. As covered numerous times before on this blog, the powerful symbolism used by the Vehmic Court was taken from ancient German/European traditions. This, despite the fact that they were killing pagans for the crime of having the wrong religion; right along with thieves, murderers, rapists, etc. The logical next step is to find more reference to this alphabet, and discover its actual origin.

The Vehmic Alphabet

Craig Stanton - Miskatonic Debating Club & Literary Society - excerpt from 'Legacies of Charlemagne' - August 6, 2013

According to tradition, Charlemagne established the Vehmgericht in the German Catholic areas of his kingdom after 772 AD to enforce his will upon the recently suppressed Pagan Saxon tribes. As part of his war of attrition against them, he forcibly moved over 30,000 Saxons across the Rhine and replaced them with an equivalent number of devout “West Gauls” who became known as the Westphalians.

The Vehmgericht was established by five knights who enacted vigilante justice upon any Saxons who railed against the rule imposed upon them. The word “vehm” is said to derive from the German word for tree – baum – and is indicative of the tendency of this cadre to decorate forests with the hanged bodies of their victims. In time, this bloodthirsty unit attracted the attention of another organisation with similar interests, that of quelling non-believers – the Inquisition. It can be no coincidence that the Vehmic Alphabet and that adopted by the Inquisition bear marked similarities.

Timeless face - Carole Lombard

Lombard Name Meaning

French and English (also common in Ireland): ethnic name for someone from Lombardy in Italy. The region is named for the Germanic tribe which overran the area in the 6th century ad. Their name is attested only in the Latinized form Langobardi, but is clearly a Germanic name meaning ‘long beards’. Early immigrants from Lombardy to London were often involved in banking and moneylending, and the name came to be used from the 14th century onward as a generic term for a financier.

An Insider’s Guide to Online Disinformation

Milicent Cranor - WhoWhatWhy.org - January 27, 2016

You may well wonder about the material we have chosen to present below.  For one thing, it has been around for a while, though mostly on obscure websites. For another, its authors are unknown. More important, we cannot say how accurate, overall, is the analysis offered in it.

Nonetheless, it is tantalizing — and raises some important issues, no matter its provenance.

The document claims to reveal the techniques — dirty tricks, really — that are practiced by trolls, saboteurs, provocateurs, disinformants, spies and other government operatives, as well as their fellow  practitioners of the dark arts.

One thing is certain: we’ve all experienced the frustration of dealing with this phenomenon. We just don’t always recognize it for what it is.

West African God Obatala: Alive and well in Brazil

Obatala

Obatala (known as Obatalá in Latin America) is an Orisha. He is the Sky Father and the creator of human bodies, which were brought to life by Olorun's smooth breath. Obatala is the father of all Orishas and also the owner of all ori. Any Orisha may claim an individual, but until that individual is initiated into the priesthood of that Orisha, Obatala still owns that head. Obatala's wife is Yembo (known as Yemú in Latin America).

Obatala is Olorun's second son. He is the one authorized by Olorun to create land over the water beneath the sky, and it is he whom according to the yoruba mythology founded the first Yoruba city, Ife. Obatala is Olorun's representative on earth and the shaper of human beings.

************

Obatalá (also known as Ochalá or Oxalá; Orichalá or Orixalá) is the oldest "Orisha funfun" ("white deity"), referring to purity, both physically and symbolically as in the "light" of consciousness. In Candomblé, Obatalá has been syncretized with Our Lord of Bonfim and is the subject of a large syncretic religious celebration, the Festa do Bonfim, which takes place in January in the city of Salvador and includes the washing of the church steps with a special water, made with flowers. In Santería, Obatalá is syncretized with Our Lady of Mercy and Jesus Of Nazareth.

'Bats and Vampiric Lore in Père Lachaise Cemetery'

Allison Meier - AtlasObscura.com - May 27, 2014

The symbolism of cemeteries can be rather ominous, with skulls and flying souls and the refrain of memento mori — remember that you will die. By the 19th century, however, most cemeteries in Western Europe and the United States had moved to a gentler Victorian iconography, focusing on eternal life with inverted flames still burning in the dark, and weeping angels with their beautiful carved faces demurely turned to the ground. Yet in Père Lachaise Cemetery in Paris, opened in 1804, a curious dark symbol repeats itself: the bat.

Open Satanic ritual marked opening of Gotthard Tunnel

I don't really know why the Swiss elites used all ethnic Swiss/German performers here, since they're one of the European states that wants to displace its native population. Maybe they get their rocks off by whoring us spiritually. Anyway, this is their religion, and should never be confused with native European magickal traditions. Also, there's at least a theoretical difference between "Satanic elitism" (Cult of Saturn) and what at least could be respectful expressions of ancient Saturnian spirituality. In other words, why just give them Saturnian spiritual tradition... why not just yank it back from them!? These elites need to start hearing the word "NO." It belongs to everyone. If you're a Christian and you believe that God created Saturn, then it belongs to you to. It's part of the heritage of the whole world.

Necromanteion

The Nekromanteion was an ancient Greek temple of necromancy devoted to Hades and Persephone. According to tradition, it was located on the banks of the Acheron river in Epirus, near the ancient city of Ephyra. This site was believed by devotees to be the door to Hades, the realm of the dead. The site is at the meeting point of the Acheron, Pyriphlegethon and Cocytus rivers, believed to flow through and water the kingdom of Hades. The meaning of the names of the rivers has been interpreted to be "joyless", "burning coals" and "lament."

This sounds like another ancient tradition which was conflated into the Christian pantheon ("the gate to hell").

Strawberry Moon Wanderings

Full Moon and Summer Solstice double-combo on June 20th

There will be a full moon this Sunday evening the 19th... and into the 20th... the date of the Summer Solstice.

'Watch for the solstice full moon'

Bruce McClure - EarthSky.org - June 14-20, 2016

Tonight – June 19, 2016 – watch for a full-looking moon. This full moon and the June solstice – the Northern Hemisphere’s summer solstice and Southern Hemisphere’s winter solstice – fall on the same date this year: June 20, 2016. The moon turns full at 11:02 UTC and the solstice arrives some 11.5 hours later, at 23:34 UTC.

Although the full moon and solstice happen at the same instant all around the world, the clock reading differs by time zone. At U.S. time zones, the moon turns precisely full on June 20 at 7:02 a.m. EDT, 6:02 a.m. CDT, 5:02 a.m. MDT and 4:02 a.m. PDT. In other words, tonight’s moon is closer to full than tomorrow night’s moon.

The June solstice, featuring the sun at its northernmost point for the year, comes on June 20 at 6:34 p.m. EDT, 5:34 p.m. CDT, 4:34 p.m. MDT and 3:34 p.m. PDT.

Also, watch for the moon shining close to Saturn and the star Antares on June 19.

In the Northern Hemisphere, we call the June full moon the Strawberry Moon, Rose Moon or Flower Moon.

"BLAIR WITCH: A five-pointed compound symbol with a center triangle pointing down. The five lines resemble the microcosmic man with arms and legs outstretched inside a circle (with a pentagram in the background)--a magic symbol or charm among medieval alchemists and wizards."

When the term microcosm man came up in the above quote, we wren't sure what that was, but in quick time we found out. Basically its the Leonardo Da Vinci symbol of a man outstreched.

In the foundation of Hermeticism, in hidden societies of craftsmen and scholarly men, away from the eyes of the Church and its paranoia, the proto-science of alchemy developed along with its occult philosophy and  cryptical symbolism. Graphical and geometric symbolism became very important and the period of the Renaissance emerged.

The concept of the microcosmic world of Man as analogous to the macrocosm,
the greater universe of spirit and elemental matter became a part of  traditional western occult teaching, as it had long been in eastern philosophies, As Above, So Below. The pentagram, the 'Star of the Microcosm',  symbolized Man within the microcosm, representing in analogy the Macrocosmic universe.

The upright pentagram bears some resemblance to the shape of man with his
legs and arms outstretched. In Tycho Brahe's Calendarium Naturale Magicum
Perpetuum (1582) occurs a pentagram with human body imposed and the
Hebrew for YHSVH associated with the elements. An illustration attributed
to Brae's  contemporary Agrippa (Henry Cornelius Agrippa von Nettesheim) is of similar proportion and shows the five planets and the moon, at the center point, the genitalia. Other illustrations of the period by Robert Fludd and Leonardo da Vinci show geometric relationships of man to the universe.

Later, the pentagram came to be symbolic of the relationship of the head to the four limbs and hence of the pure concentrated essence of anything (or the spirit) to the four traditional elements of matter, earth, water,  air and fire - spirit is The Quintessence.

Cyndi Lauper - Time After Time

CyndiLauperVEVO

Cyndi Lauper's official music video for 'Time After Time'

************

I associate this song from when I was a boy and I had "missed my ride" as nightfall approached, and I decided to take a shortcut home by walking a trail system several miles through a county park. I remember it was a warm, clear, still night as I made my way through the wonderful darkness. I listened to this song during that trek on my very 80s Sony "Walkman." The video of this song tends to disassociate it from its higher calling...

'Time After Time'

Cyndi Lauper

Lying in my bed I hear the clock tick,
And think of you
Caught up in circles confusion
Is nothing new
Flashback warm nights
Almost left behind
Suitcases of memories,
Time after

Sometimes you picture me
I'm walking too far ahead
You're calling to me, I can't hear
What you've said
Then you say go slow
I fall behind
The second hand unwinds

If you're lost you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you I'll be waiting
Time after time

If you're lost you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you I'll be waiting
Time after time

After my picture fades and darkness has
Turned to gray
Watching through windows you're wondering
If I'm OK
Secrets stolen from deep inside
The drum beats out of time
