Lynn Anderson - Rose Garden

Lynn Anderson

Lynn Rene Anderson was born in Grand Forks, North Dakota, on September 26, 1947, to Casey and Liz Anderson. Her grandparents were Scandinavian immigrants who established a North Dakota "saddle club". According to Anderson, she could ride horses before she could walk. While she was still a young child, the family relocated to a subdivision in Fair Oaks, California. However, Anderson insisted that her parents move to a ranch, prompting the family to move to Sacramento, California. In Sacramento, the Anderson family bought a ranch with two acres of land. The family raised horses, which she learned how to ride and care for. At the age of nine, Anderson won second place at a local horse-racing event in San Francisco, California. Lynn also became interested in performing from an early age. Both her parents were aspiring songwriters that had formed friendships with west country performers. Her performing and musical interests continued into high school. During her teens she landed a job working as a secretary for KROY in Sacramento. Upon graduating, she became the station's secretary to the general manager.

While working full-time, Lynn continued entering equestrian competitions. Once winning several competitions, she was dubbed the "California Horse Show Queen" in 1966. While watching her daughter at these events, Liz Anderson was also composing songs. She sent her compositions to Los Angeles and Nashville, Tennessee, where they were heard by music executives. Among the songs heard was "(My Friends Are Gonna Be) Strangers", which was recorded by Merle Haggard in 1964. The song led producer Chet Atkins to Liz to a recording contract at RCA Victor. This prompted the family to relocate to Nashville. Before officially moving, Liz took a brief trip with her daughter to Nashville in 1965. At a hotel, mother and daughter performed in an informal sing-along with several other artists. Also present at the sing-along was producer Slim Williamson. Impressed by her vocals, Williamson offered Lynn a recording contract of her own. In 1966, she signed her first recording contract with Chart Records.

Anderson has been widely regarded as one of country music's most significant female artists.

'Mysterious Hammer Of Thor In Canada Was Built Before The Arrival Of The Inuit – Did Vikings Raise The Monument?'

Ellen Lloyd - January 22, 2018 - AncientPages.com

On the desolate north bank of the Payne Estuary, 15 miles above the village of Payne Bay, near the west coast of Ungava Bay, northern Quebec, Canada, there is a very curious ancient monument resembling Thor’s Hammer.

The monument is a two-ton stone structure, about 8 feet high, and measures 4-1/2 feet across at its pointed lintel, surmounted by a 14-inch-high capstone. It is unknown who raised the monument, and there is some dispute about its builders.

The structure was discovered in 1964 by archaeologist Thomas E. Lee during an anthropological expedition to Ungava. Lee was struck by its roughly Nordic design and dubbed it “the Hammer of Thor.”

God Thor is considered a hero of the Vikings, and his hammer has long been the Vikings’ amulet of protection and power. Thor is often depicted with Mjölnir, a magical hammer in his hand.

Nova Bréscia: Brescians in Brazil

NOVA BRÉSCIA VISTA DE CIMA

IMAGEMAEREARS

************

Nova Bréscia - "New Brescia" in Latin, founded 1964

Not surprisingly, wherever they go, everything rises up around them. The hard work, the intelligence, the creativity; a culture-bearing people. This is a rural area, the kind of place where there always is talk of the lack of opportunities, but they're the kind of people who just make things happen. The first settlers arrived in 1902, but it became official in 1964.

************

Rio Grande do Sul - "Great Southern River"

Nova Bréscia is located in the Rio Grande do Sul state in Brazil, which is the southernmost state. Often people from Brescia, and other people from the Padan plane, immigrated in order to find affordable farm land. I once read that some Brescians in the early twentieth century had migrated to a then sparsely populated Turkey, probably for the same region. There are approximately 10,000 Brescians in Brazil.

************

Festival Do Chrrasqueiro

Is the actual origin of the churrasquiero from the traditional Brescian spit? That's what this piece seems to suggest, although I don't know. A lot of people arrive for the festival; not every person in these videos is Bresican. The whole general region there is mainly Portuguese, Italian, German, and African. Most of the faces seem to clearly be Brescian. Outside of the semi-tropical vegetation, the town looks much like a town in rural Brescia. Such a different landscape from the Northwoods environment where my family settled, although it's similarly rural.

Nova Bréscia

[Translated by Bing Microsoft Translator. It's not an exact match, with Portuguese, Italian, and English translating back and forth a little too much in a few places.]

Nova Brescia is a municipality in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul,colonized by Italian immigrants. It is located at a latitude of 29º12'52" south and at a longitude of 52º01'39" west, being at an altitude of 313 meters. Its population was 3,184 according to the 2010 IBGE census.

It has an area of 102.183 km².

New Brescia is known as the capital of lies, holding every two years the Festival da Mentira ("Festival of Lies"),where the person who tells the biggest lie wins, but who manages to leave viewers in doubt about its veracity. It is also known for being the capital of the churrasqueiros.

History

Municipality created on December 28, 1964, according to State Law Number 4,903. On April 11, 1965, the first mayor, João Arlindo Deves, was graduated, having as deputy Alfredo Silvestre Macagnan. The first chamber of aldermen was composed of João Sbardelotto, Benjamin Giongo, Guido Dalpian, Alcides Armando Laste, Isidoro Berti, Alcides Zambiasi, Maximiliano Salami and Arlindo Simonetti.

"Noi italiani lavoratori,/ Allegri andiamo in Brasile./ E voialtri d'Italia signori,/ Lavoratelo il vostro badile./ Se volete mangiare." We Italian workers/ Let's go happy for Brazil./ And you nobles from Italy,/ Get your shovel/ If you want to eat.

This was the spirit, this was the chant of the Italian immigrants on their ships. They were fleeing Italy like a prison. There was so much abundance of manpower in Europe that more than 10 million Italians immigrated to the New World between the 1810s and 1930s. In Brazil, from 1875 to 1935, 1.5 million entered, of which 100,000 came to Rio Grande do Sul, with the most diverse qualifications.

The immigration of the Italians is linked to the process of unification of Italy and the victory of capitalism over the "small kingdoms and their agrarian structure", deeply affecting the families who lived on the land. From Brescia, located in the Region of Lombardy, many Italians arrived in Rio Grande do Sul, giving birth to the city of New Brescia.

Exactly in 1895, the Italian families of De Maman, Mezacasa, Casaril and Daroit, coming from the municipalities of Bento Gonçalves, Antonio Prado and Veranópolis, climbed steep paths and settled in the locality of Arroio das Pedras, where today is the town of Linha Tigrinho Alto, an initial landmark of the colonization of the municipality of New Brescia, with its current 33 communities.

The city of New Brescia began around 1902, when the first settlers, the Italians born Santo Titton and João Dalnora, plus the Brazilians Felisberto de Freitas and João Machado, arrived there.

In these places there were only woods and pickets. It wasn't easy for the young community of settlers to settle down. These pioneers came bringing their families and their changes upon horses. They suffered a lot to build their wooden houses, for the planks were sawn by hand. There were no bricks or building materials. To buy groceries not produced on site, it was necessary to go on horseback, along a road full of curves and steep slopes, to Arroio Grande, now Enchanted.

In 1906, more settlers arrived, among them Antonio Dall'Oglio, Batista Recco, João Magagnin and others who added to those who were already on site, in order to explore the land through agriculture. The main crops were wheat, corn and beans. The commercialization of the products was carried out in the neighboring cities, transported on mules that formed long fias on the paths through which only one animal passed at a time. Later, when the roads were widened and flattened, carts pulled by oxen or horses began to be used. Only in 1914 was opened the current road that connects New Brescia to Encantado; before, the route was made by the Tigrinho Line.

The first church in New Brescia was built of basalt stone, but had to be demolished a few years after its construction in the early 1930s. The current mother church, also built of stone, had its foundation stone laid in 1936 and was inaugurated in 1952.

In 1924 came the first doctor, Dr. José Lorenzin; in the same year the first pharmacy appeared. Until then, when necessary, patients who could not keep on top of a horse were loaded on padiolas until Encantado or Arroio do Meio. In 1938 the São João Batista Charity Hospital was founded, which operates to this day.

The years passed and the city grew. In 1964 came emancipation: New Bréscia ceased to be a district of the municipality of Arroio do Meio and gained its autonomy.

Shortly before a new story had begun: the saga of the churrasqueiros.

New Brescia is now nationally known as the land of the best churrasqueiros in Brazil. Countless are the houses specialized in barbecue scattered throughout Brazil; and there are countless in other countries, especially in the United States.

In the 1960s, the municipality had around 11,000 inhabitants. Today there are just over 3,000, due to the exodus of many residents, but mainly due to the emancipation of several districts, which constituted autonomous municipalities.

Currently it is estimated that more than 10,000 Brescians spread throughout Brazil and the world in various activities. They stand out mainly in the branch of steakhouses and restaurants, which followed the example of Albino Ongaratto, from Linha Alegre, who decided to drop the hoe, the fight against mountainous terrain, unpredictable bites in the winter months and the indomable force of prodigious nature, thus initiating a massive rural exodus, which we can call as the saga of churrasqueiros.

Currently the municipality of New Brescia stands out for its quality of life. According to recent data, the HDI (UN Human Development Index) the municipality of New Brescia is in 1st place in the Taquari Valley and among the first in the state.

Monument to the churrasqueiro

New Brescia is also known for offering the world the best churrasqueiros in Brazil. The fame of Brescians is very great, even paying homage to the churrasqueiro in the city center.

On the monument there is a sign, which reads:

To you churrasqueiro who represent so well the Brescians community in every corner of the country, our gratitude and gratitude.

Economy

The service sector is the main economic activity of the municipality, corresponding to 52.4% of GDP. In second place, there is the agricultural sector, with 37.4% of GDP, with special emphasis on poultry farming, with New Brescia being the municipality with the highest production of birds in the state, with about 40 million birds per year. In recent years, the industrial sector has also developed, representing about 1% of GDP, with companies in the textile, furniture, timber, metal-mechanical and food sectors.

Culture

Sovereigns

The new court of sovereigns of the municipality was elected on April 29, 2017, in a ball held at the Municipal Sports Gymnasium, as a program of the festivities in commemoration of the 52nd anniversary of the city. Nine beautiful girls took the catwalk, but only three were crowned. The queen elected is Camila Laste and princesses Dainar Amaral and Jaine de Oliveira Simonetti.

Festa di Lupercus - February 2

The Festivals of Stregheria

The Strega Wheel of the Year turns, much like the Pagan Sabbats of later years. It is written....

“Aradia teaches us that Nature is the Great Teacher, and that by participating in the seasonal festivals, we come to know the higher ways of the Spirit.”

These celebrations are called Treguendas. There are eight Treguendas which make up the year. Four major rites occur in October, February, May and August. These are the Spiritual Festivals. Four minor festivals occur on the Spring and Autumnal Equinoxes, and the Summer and Winter Solstices. These are agricultural festivals.

Lupercus — Festa di Lupercus — February 2

The Festival of Lupercus marks the puberty of our Lord, Lupercus. The Grigori have set “twelve labours” before the young Wolf God that he must master to prove his worth as the new Sun God. Lupercus proves his worth by completing the tasks. Lupercus is invoked at this time of year to scatter the wolves of the dark winter night. Assisting us in releasing the atavistic power within us all. Through him, we are free of the constraints of our bodies, and of the winter season.

*************

Lupercalia

Lupercalia was a very ancient, possibly pre-Roman pastoral annual festival, observed in the city of Rome on February 15, to avert evil spirits and purify the city, releasing health and fertility. Lupercalia was also called "dies Februatus", purified (literally "februated day") after the instruments of purification called "februa", which give the month of February (Februarius) its name.

[Right: Lupercalia most likely derives from lupus, "wolf," though both the etymology and its significance are obscure (bronze wolf's head, 1st century AD)]

For the spring wishers

While in much of the country the snow won't melt until May, in many other locations spring-like weather can arrive much earlier. I guess I'm a spring wisher, mainly because I have a lot of outdoor projects ahead of me. I do love the many cold, still, and clear evenings that we have been getting in between rains. Along most of coastal California, we have a rain season from the start of November through April, and a dry season for the other six months. Just inland we can have some truly warm weather in April, followed by a small heatwave sometime in late May or early June.

Coyote invasion

The presence of coyotes here in recent years has only intensified. I hear them, and often see them close up when I'm on evening hikes, even in well-lit areas. I guess that sort've goes hand-in-glove with the Festa di Lupercus. I recall with self-demusement a few years ago of being very fearful when a couple of foxes showed some aggression, and without a lot of basis. As five or so coyotes were nearby me about a week ago, sizing me up a bit, I sort've growled and grunted lowly in the form of clearing my throat as I walked forward. I knew they would hear me even being in a low tone. In a way sort of making up for my lack of courage on the other occasion in my own psyche. There seem to clearly be two types of coyotes here locally. One is a smaller less-aggressive dark-golden brown colored type, and a larger more aggressive light grayish colored type with possibly some wolf DNA mixed in. These were the larger type which i encountered.

The unknown actress

I came across this image by accident, and the link attached to it gave no clue as to who she is/was; so, she's unknown to me at least. She was very attractive; maybe in more of a 1950s woman next door sort've way. Do you have any idea of who she is/was?

"Community economics"

This has long been mentioned as a goal of many different concerns, but with few truly moving forward on the concept. From a Neopagan perspective--and taking in account that we're not at all on the same page in any sort've meaningful way at the present time--here are two businesses that are tied to this concept and I think deserve a plug for their efforts.

Saga Press (book publishing company)

Saga Press (YouTube channel)

There has been confusion in that there is a different company with the same name. A publishing company, even small one, is a symbol of some degree of power. Vote with your pocketbooks.

************

Cucina Aurora (Kitchen Witchery)

I have long heard that Neopagans and people of other conflated concerns are always in the poor house. People talk about moving with this community economic concept, but these women actually did it.

.
************

This isn't economically related, but I wanted to give another plug for Daniel Updike's excellent YouTube channel. He's a true spearhead in the community up there in Alberta and in North America. I would like to think that we don't always have to define ourselves by "he's an Asutrar" or "I'm something else"... etc... but that it could be a conflated cooperative folk concept to a large extent.

When YouTube started, there had never been anything like this for Neopagans. It was all completely new. Some people were almost shy about expressing it, so in that sense TipToeChick made it easy for mostly younger people as almost a virtual mentor. I think she got away from it a couple of times after she had children, and she wanted to come back and start a business, and it unfortunately won't happen. We don't know how much or little time we have. I found inspiration when I saw how she was so well organized with her materials, such as the bottles of herbs and substances arranged perfectly up on shelves. She often spoke about the issue of "healing." I hate to see her go, and she was young. She may have been 24-26 when she stared ten years ago.

"The Genius Who Loved Satan"

On a recent episode of 'Deadly Intelligence'--entitled 'The Genius Who Loved Satan'--on the Science Channel, the story of Jack Parsons was explored. The program focused on aspects of Parsons' career which other documentaries did not; his shaky relationship with the intelligence community and the fear of him as an espionage risk... mainly due to his own carelessness in these areas. His involvement with the OTO put him at odds with the scientific establishment at that time; however, this would not be the case today. Specifics regarding Parsons' ritual and sex magic were not looked into. The program did show that Jack Parsons really should have been in on the moon landing. He was a part of the acknowledged process; whatever one may think of him, he deserves at least that much.

Border Collie - Bests of Breed

Judith Gregory bought her first Border Collie more than 60 years ago, and her relationship with the breed has seen her collect 10 Breeder of the Year prizes and even winning the overall Breeders Final held at Crufts in 2010.

Owner of the Tonkory kennel name, Judith talks to Simon Baillie of dogworld.tv about the breed she has shared her life with. Hear what to expect of the breed as a puppy and as an adult, and what is required to keep one of these highly intelligent and active breed,=.

************

Border Collies are amazing. They're possibly the most intelligent dog, have proportionately very large hearts making them almost tireless, are restless if not working, are aggressive and intense but not vicious or mean, and display string individual personalities. They weren't bred for vanity, so it increased their abilities and intelligence; although they have become show dogs since the 90s. Rather than the "British Bulldog," it almost seems that the Border Collie should be the national mascot. They were originally from the Scottish lowlands and border area.

'Witch Heritage 101: European Aborignals or When Witch haters joke about anti-Witch films'

Trey Capnerhurst - The Abbey Still Room - March 9, 2013

I think I'll be doing my graduate work in European Aboriginal studies, since apparently, it's rumoured that they don't actually exist, or if they did, they don't now, or aren't continuous after all the Xian fundie persecutions. Thanks for proving how necessary that research is, and for giving me the idea..

This FB status of mine was universally Liked from so many of my friends, of all different heritages and faiths. It was one of my most popular ever. Yet, it was in response to one of my alleged friends who has continually seen fit to post anti-witch hate on my FB page, in a constant attempt to deny our existence, veracity, tradition, or continuation. I remain bemused why it is so important to insist that we either never existed, or were exterminated, or are a "traditional folklore monster", and that modern pagans are somehow using the term for 'shock value.' There are so many issues with this that I can't begin to deconstruct it all at once, but it is vital to defend our right to claim ourselves, and fight the dominant Christian narrative of who we are.

I've gone into some of the pathology on anti-witch bigotry and Blood Libel before, but clearly, there needs to be more said, with movies still being produced that encourage our 'hunting', called an "exciting and informative film about witches" by my totally non-hateful friend. But we're much smarter than the dolts who slurped up the anti-Jewish Nazi propaganda, and no one believes what they see on film, especially if it's about a myth, right? Yeah. Of course not. And my neighbours don't threaten to burn down my house, either, or my otherwise intelligent co-workers quietly whisper the question "Could Blair Witch actually happen?"

I feel a little helpless sometimes. When I have these discussions, I assume that my fellow debater has the basic grasp that they are living in a background radiation of the Christian narrative. When I realize that I have to drop the level to something of a first year University course, or maybe even high school, to have a reasonable exchange, I nearly despair of ever reducing the spectre of oppression and persecution. Hence, the title of this post.  I will be using actual public comments as an example to counter some of the most pervasive, harmful, and just bizarrely weird myths.

Claims that still pervade the literature make it nearly impossible for us to legitimize ourselves and our heritage. Here are some comments on the latest witch hate movie, from an otherwise intelligent person.

Gisele Bündchen

In some people's estimation, "the most beautiful woman in the world," and a billionaire for her efforts. She can look glamorous at times, and just the attractive woman down the street at others; skinny, and looking somewhat volumptuous in many photographs. She is of course, married to superstar quarterback Tom Brady; himself equally "genetically good looking." I find their marriage to be much more interesting than any so-called royal wedding. Both are from working class backgrounds; Bundchen from an inter-generational German community in south Brazil, and Brady from San Mateo, California. They almost seem made for each other. Horizontina - The first settlers were German, Italian and Polish immigrants who arrived in the region in 1927, though the city was created only in 1955. Nowadays, most of the inhabitants are of German-Brazilian descent.

Manly P. Hall's reptilian wood cut

One of the wood cuts on the doors leading into Manly P. Hall's occult/wisdom library (Library of the Philosophical Research Society). Apparently much of it is based on Atlantean legends and/or history, with both reptilian and fish "being" symbolism. The eyes in the figure appear purposely slit-like aka "reptilian."

Vargas was a master of pin-up art for decades, such as the movie poster above. He did a lot of relatively tactful artwork for Playboy magazine.

Maltese bread

Maltese bread is known the world over for being among the best, if not the best bread in the world. The San Francisco Bay Area apparently has over 20,000 Maltese-Americans going back many decades, yet no bread... I've looked pretty hard too. After my parents first moved to San Francisco from Upper Michigan, they purchased a house, and their neighbors on both sides were Maltese. Years ago at traveling New Orleans cultural festival, I tried the regionally famous Sicilian/New Orleans "Muffaletta sandwich," but I don't think that I truly got the real thing. It was sub-par.. I know it must be better. These would seem to be great business ideas. The "Yooper" (Upper Michigan) "Cudighi sandsich" was brought there by Camunian immigrants long ago.. and it's NOT hard to find up there! It's very popular. Someone looking for a business idea could take numerous American regional specialties and combine them into one eatery.

I remember one time a friend showing me one of Olivia De Berardinis' art books entitled 'Let Them Eat Cheesecake' (The Art of Olivia, Vol. 1) (Hardcover; 1995), and being amazed at the detail. It's were pin-up art meets fantasy. She was also associated with Playboy magazine.

This is actually the second time I have owned this book. I sold it long ago when I needed the money and then recently found it used on Amazon and bought it again. I remember her art work when I was still in high school back in the eighties. She is one of my favorite artist.

Denise Michele - Playboy - Miss April 1976

When I was a little boy, I recall being at some sports collectors event or car show--I don't recall which--at the Cow Palace in Daly City; or rather I was tagging along with someone. "Ex-Playboy centerfold" Denise Michele was signing autographs at a booth, and as a joke I was prompted by the young adults there (not my parents) to walk up and meet her. As they were perhaps poking fun at my disposition, she was really nice. She signed a black-and-white image of her face for me.. which said something about football since I was wearing a jersey. She was from Hawaii.

Immortals (2011 film)

I've watched a lot of sci-fi, fantasy, and legends films in recent months. I can only review a few, since I feel the need to be too perfect. I just watched 'Immortals', a mediocre ancient-Greek gods and fantasy film which was difficult to follow. The protagonist character of Theseus and his supporting group were not very well developed. King Hyperion was shown as so evil that it would make virtually anyone look good in comparison. Also, it was never made clear why Hyperion was attacking Theseus and the village in the first place! They were apparently within his nation, he could have used at least a grain of finesse and tried to bring them into his fold and tried to recruit Theseus and all of the local warriors. Why would a nation attack itself? Maybe I missed something. It was a very violent film.
