Maddalena Taluti - The Legendary Strega

I came across the Tarot card image to the right this evening, and it reminded me of Maddalena Taluti, the woman who dispensed so many of the mysteries of Stregheria to researcher and author Charles Godfrey Leland for his works. I can picture is being her perhaps when she was younger, as she was thought of as having an "Etruscan look."

Then I came across a long biography, and I wanted to post them. The story of Charles Leland and Maddalena would make a great film if they did it right; not try to sensationalize or trivialize it, or add anything silly to it, or make any type of "grand" unrelated "statement." It could be perfect. In any case, we should never forget her. Also, of course, Charles Leland. Where would be be without him!?

Back when I was living on the edge of the Santa Cruz Mountains, I named a lot of things over years; not intending to "name everything," but it just occurred naturally. I named part of a trail on a lower meadow of sorts, as "Maddy's Grove." Now I'm living far away from there. I wonder if anyone there thinks of that name I gave when on that trail?

You can always just take a smooth stone, paint it, and paint someone's name who's passed away as something of a marker, and place it in a garden or anywhere. You might paint on a symbol or numbers and letters, anything that reminds you of them, or a symbol of how you may perceive them if you never knew them. Also, you could carve or have something made to put on the front of a flower box, or just make something to sink into the soil with "In Loving Memory of...".. or something else if the person was just a hero of yours and you didn't know them.

It's curious to me that Maddalena lived in Genoa during her latter days. A city which had such a long profound link to San Francisco, which in turn would be perhaps something of an invisible bridge to "Maddy's Grove."

In the history of Witchcraft there is perhaps no figure more mysterious than the Witch known as Maddalena. As described by folklorist Charles Leland in several of his books, Maddalena was an Italian fortune teller and Witch. She supplied Leland with a great deal of Italian Witch lore including the text Leland later published as the Gospel of the Witches in 1899. Maddalena was also known to folklorists Roma Lister and Lady de Vere (to who she was introduced as "Margherita").

New findings related to Maddalena have recently come to light through some research I conducted at the Library of Congress. At the Pantheacon conference, on February 17th, 2008, I presented a copy of a page from The International Folklore Congress: Papers and Transactions, 1891. On page 454, Maddalena's name appears as a contributor to an exhibit presented by Charles Leland. Her name is given as Maddalena Taluti. In the modern Pazzaglini translation of Aradia, contributing writer professor Robert Mathiesen wrote that he believed Maddalena's last name to be Talenti. In light of new findings he is incorrect, but he does state that her name was almost illegible in the document he examined.

According to Leland, in his book Etruscan Roman Remains, Maddalena was originally from the town of Rocca Casciano, which is now called Rocca San Casciano. It is located in the Province of Forli-Cesena in the Italian region of Emilia-Romagna. She reportedly traveled a great deal, making a living telling fortunes and selling charms. According to Leland, Maddalena claimed to have been trained in a family tradition of Italian Witchcraft, which was passed on to her by aunts and by her step-mother.

The Aradia material obtained for Leland differs greatly from the material that Maddalena had previously supplied to him. In the book Etruscan Roman Remains, Leland describes the Witches of Italy as being both good and bad. By contrast the Aradia material portrays Witches in a negative light. It is noteworthy that he describes a group that he calls the "beautiful witches of Benevento." Concerning Maddalena herself, Leland describes her as:

"a young woman who would have been taken for a Gypsy in England, but in whose face, in Italy, I soon learned to know the antique Etruscan, with its strange mysteries, to which was added the indefinable glance of the Witch. She was from the Romagna Toscana, born in the heart of its unsurpassingly wild and romantic scenery, amid cliffs, headlong torrents, forests, and old legendary castles. I did not gather all the facts for a long time, but gradually found that she was of a Witch family, or one whose members had, from time to immemorial, told fortunes, repeated ancient legends, gathered incantations, and learned how to intone them, prepared enchanted medicines, philtres, or spells. As a girl, her Witch grandmother, aunt, and especially her stepmother brought her up to believe in her destiny as a sorceress, and taught her in the forests, afar from human ear, to chant in strange prescribed tones, incantations or evocations to the ancient gods of Italy, under names but little changed, who are now known as folletti, spiriti, fate, or lari - the Lares or household goblins of the ancient Etruscans."

After receiving material from Maddalena, which became the foundation for the books Legends of Florence and Etruscan Roman Remains, Leland made another request. In 1886, Leland asked Maddalena to try and locate a text that he had heard of that was a type of Witches gospel. Eleven years later she sent him some material that Leland published as Aradia; or the Gospel of the Witches. It is noteworthy that Maddalena had fulfilled Leland's previous requests for material within a short period of time. The fact that it took her ten years to present the Aradia material strongly suggests that she was originally unaware of it. This further suggests that the tradition it represented was not the one she personally practiced.

The tradition that Maddalena most likely practiced is reflected in Leland's books Etruscan Roman Remains, Legends of Florence, and Legends of Virgil. The portrayal of Witches and Witchcraft in Leland's Gospel of Aradia does not reflect the same image as his earlier works. This is another indication that the material came from a system outside of Maddalena's own knowledge and experience.

A letter from Leland to his niece, which I presented a copy of at the Pantheacon conference, describes Maddalena performing a ritual in which she invokes a goddess and a god. During the invocation, Maddalena reportedly went into convulsions, and Leland had to send out for two pints of brandy in order to restore her back to normal. This speaks to Maddalena as a genuine practitioner of the Old Religion. Leland goes on in the letter to say that if ever there was a true depiction of the witch, Maddalena demonstrated it through her magic.

In the book Aradia, Leland notes that he lost touch with Maddalena after receiving a letter from her that she was marrying her shoemaker (Lorenzo Bruciatelli) and immigrating to America. As a result of this comment, the view has been held that Leland never heard from Maddalena again, and what became of her is unknown. Fortunately, another recent discovered by me came in the form of a letter found in the archives of the Library of Congress (buried in a stack of old letters). The letter, written by Leland to his niece, mentions that Maddalena did not move to America, but left her husband and went to Genoa to make a living there on her own. She wrote to Leland letting him know what happened, and she asked him if he could send her ten francs as she was in a difficult financial situation. He complied, but it seems that the two never met again after this communication.

Invictus: Part 3 - "The Wolf Age"

As I sit here in the cold of a garage, as I have for about five weeks now, I ponder the upcoming Full Wolf Moon which will occur on Monday evening. Monday, "Moon's Day," February 17, 2022. Up to about a week ago, the coldest three-week spell that I can ever remember around here occurred. It never got above about 48 degrees, and dipped down into the 30's on a number of mornings. Although that is not unusual for many parts, for me it's more extreme since I am living in a garage with no heat, and no bed.

Today when I returned from an errand, I saw where the renovation team had emptied the upstairs refrigerator. It reminded me of one of the earliest lessons that my mother had taught me: Never waste food. Perhaps she may have thought about being cold and hungry at times as a child during the unforgiving winters of rural northern Wisconsin. Now she is gone, and I must go on, struggling to meet a lessor opponent than she had met.

In about a week, I must leave this place permanently, and I have already used up a lot of favors. There is a method to this madness, but it's easy to lose grip of it as events control me more than I control them. I don't recall of ever absolutely having to seize opportunities when they present themselves, amid many very dark down periods. For me now, this truly is "The Wolf Age." During this time, I have contracted a condition called chilblains from my fingers and toes being subjected to incessant cold. It's difficult to sleep from the painful swelling of he blood vessels. As I literally shiver now on this Saturday night as I type this, should I complain to someone, or maybe just cave in and quit?

Should I just take on a negative attitude, feel sorry for myself, use some sort of pain killer, or perhaps just become a bad person? Or... should I think of my father who died on a lost highway taking care of his family, my sister who died in battle near Beirut, or my mother who worked as a shipping/receiving clerk for sixty hours a week to keep our home going after they were gone? If they're looking down upon me right now, would they think I'm showing any courage, or at least resiliency? I think this is still a true test of wits and will. My numb fingers and toes are proof enough of at least that. The coyote howls from down in the cold dark canyon now symbolize more than just a fanciful reminder of nature, but of the harshness of life's struggle. This time it's not just talk.

Once more into the fray...
Into the last good fight I'll ever know.

Live and die on this day...

'What Are the Easter Bunny's Origins? Here's the Fascinating History of the Easter Bunny'

Ever wonder what a cute woodland creature has to do with Easter?

By Hannah Jeon - GoodHousekeeping.com - March 4, 2020

Every year on Easter, legend has it that a long-eared, cotton-tailed creature comes to deliver festive baskets full of treats, toys, and delicious candy to children — and even lays colorful eggs for them to find! Among other Easter traditions like hot cross buns and egg hunts, the Easter Bunny has long been a well-known and popular symbol associated with the religious holiday — but have you ever wondered about the Easter Bunny's origins, and how exactly the cute, fluffy woodland creature became such a prevalent symbol of Easter?

Surprisingly, there's a lot of history behind the mythical story of an egg-bearing rabbit on Easter Sunday (and it's not just because he's cute!). The Easter Bunny actually has a long and deeply rooted history in the Christian holiday — and even in pagan traditions. Here's what to know about the fascinating origins of the Easter Bunny before you welcome the holiday with chocolate rabbits and plenty of bunny-shaped treats — including where the character comes from, why he's associated with Easter eggs, and how he became such a beloved symbol of the holiday over the years.

The Blue Moon

[followup to 'The Green Moon' of part 1]

On the previous piece, I mentioned the golden moonlight that one can see when the night conditions are right. I also mentioned the illusion of "green moonlight" under the same conditions. While adding that there was an almost theoretical "blue moonlight" which possibly can be perceived. Just after publishing that, on Saturday, I went on a twilight/night hike with perfect conditions: almost full moon, particularly bright moonlight, moon positioned above at a slight angle, no wind or breeze, and a clear sky.

Upon reaching one point with a fabulous night view of the San Francisco Bay, I noticed that I could make out that the water was of a dark blue color under the moonlight in certain spots; not the blue water when illuminated by the sunlight. That got me thinking about what I had written, that there was at least the illusion of blue moonlight. Just by the night sky being of a dark blue hue also leads to an additional concept of blue light.

The little brush rabbits are very active at night, and can be see along the trail. Although rabbits are common prey animals, and I've observed so many of them over the years, I had never seen any evidence of any of them perishing. The very next day, yesterday, I came across a  body; probably a victim of coyotes. Ever since the coyote population increased in recent years, there has been an absence of wildcats, raccoons, skunks, and foxes in the area. They were once at least easy to spot along the trails.

Classic reality TV

Two programs, which I guess what could now be called classic reality television, are back again with all new episodes on A&E. 'Intervention' premiered on March 15, and 'Storage Wars' will premiere on April 20. It never ceases to amaze me how obstinate those with narcotic abuse problems are on this program, but if they didn't react in that manner nobody would watch. 'Storage Wars' has quite a cast of characters. I was thinking that all of the other storage auctions out there have probably been so flooded with people since this program started ten years ago.

'The Ancient Pagan Origins of Easter'

Joanna Gillian - Ancient-Origins.net - April 9, 2020

Easter is a festival and holiday celebrated by millions of people around the world who honor the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, described in the New Testament as having occurred three days after his crucifixion at Calvary. It is also the day that children excitedly wait for the Easter bunny to arrive and deliver their treats of chocolate eggs.

The date upon which Easter is held varies from year to year, and corresponds with the first Sunday following the full moon after the March equinox. It occurs on different dates around the world since western churches use the Gregorian calendar, while eastern churches use the Julian calendar.

While Easter, as we know it today, was never a pagan festival, its roots and many of its traditions have associations with ancient pagan customs and beliefs.

According to the New Unger’s Bible Dictionary: “The word Easter is of Saxon origin, Eastra, the goddess of spring, in whose honour sacrifices were offered about Passover time each year. By the eighth century Anglo–Saxons had adopted the name to designate the celebration of Christ’s resurrection.” However, even among those who maintain that Easter has pagan roots, there is some disagreement over which pagan tradition the festival emerged from. Here we will explore some of those perspectives.

Resurrection as a Symbol of Rebirth

One theory that has been put forward is that the Easter story of crucifixion and resurrection is symbolic of rebirth and renewal and retells the cycle of the seasons, the death and return of the sun.

According to some scholars, such as Dr. Tony Nugent, teacher of Theology and Religious Studies at Seattle University, and Presbyterian minister, the Easter story comes from the Sumerian legend of Damuzi (Tammuz) and his wife Inanna (Ishtar), an epic myth called “The Descent of Inanna” found inscribed on cuneiform clay tablets dating back to 2100 BC. When Tammuz dies, Ishtar is grief–stricken and follows him to the underworld. In the underworld, she enters through seven gates, and her worldly attire is removed. "Naked and bowed low" she is judged, killed, and then hung on display. In her absence, the earth loses its fertility, crops cease to grow and animals stop reproducing. Unless something is done, all life on earth will end.

Two ideas concerning the character of the nature and the universe

Nature has no "words" nor neurological associations.... it just "IS"

When thinking about life, nature, and the earth... people are very word-driven. As if trying to make sense of nature's order and the order of their own lives. Nature has no words as such; it just moves forward with it's own laws. A person can jump off of a cliff and deny gravity. Nature does not care. What we see and experience just "IS," regardless of how any and all societies try to institute their own order of thought control.

Universal spinning; "regeneration"

All things in the universe are spinning and changing, not just life forms. Even a rock, at the sub-atomic level; there is "movement," however small. Nature is in constant flux, the endless cycle of building, destroying, building, etc. When I go hiking, there is no real danger. There are coyotes, which are very unlikely to attack; there could be a rattlesnake, although I've personally only seen one in the wild. There are no bears, wolves, nor mountain lions. This taming of nature is an illusion, as Nature or the Universe could wipe us out at any time.

Wolfsangel

The Wolfsangel is a German heraldic charge inspired by historic wolf traps, consisting of two metal parts and a connecting chain. The top part of the trap, which resembled a crescent moon with a ring inside, used to be fastened between branches of a tree in the forest while the bottom part, on which meat scraps used to be hung, was a hook meant to be swallowed by a wolf. The simplified design based on the iron "wolf-hook" was often heavily stylized to no longer resemble a baited hook hung from a tree or an entire wolf traps.

Other names included Wolfsanker ("wolf-anchor") or Wolfsjagd as well as hameçon or hameçon de loup, a half-moon shape with a ring, or as cramp or crampon in English with a ring at the center, sometimes also called Doppelhaken ("double-hook"), or a crampon with a transversal stroke. All of these symbols are still found in a number of municipal coats of arms in Germany. The crampon is also found as a mason's mark in medieval stonework.

In early times, believed to possess magical powers, it became a symbol of liberty and independence after its adoption as an emblem of a peasant revolt in the 15th century against the oppression of the German princes and their mercenaries.

Gothic architecture

Gothic architecture (latin : francigenum opus) is a style that flourished in Europe during the High and Late Middle Ages. It evolved from Romanesque architecture and was succeeded by Renaissance architecture. Originating in 12th-century France, it was widely used, especially for cathedrals and churches, until the 16th century.

Gothicism

Gothicism or Gothism (Swedish: Göticism; Latin: Gothicismus) was a cultural movement in Sweden, centered on the belief in the glory of the Swedish Geats, who were identified with the Goths. The founders of the movement were Nicolaus Ragvaldi and the brothers Johannes and Olaus Magnus. The belief continued to hold power in the 17th century, when Sweden was a great power following the Thirty Years' War, but lost most of its sway in the 18th. It was renewed by the Viking revival and Romantic nationalism in the early 19th century, this time with the Vikings as heroic figures.

Gothic art

Gothic art was a style of medieval art that developed in Northern France out of Romanesque art in the 12th century AD, led by the concurrent development of Gothic architecture. It spread to all of Western Europe, and much of Southern and Central Europe, never quite effacing more classical styles in Italy. In the late 14th century, the sophisticated court style of International Gothic developed, which continued to evolve until the late 15th century. In many areas, especially Germany, Late Gothic art continued well into the 16th century, before being subsumed into Renaissance art. Primary media in the Gothic period included sculpture, panel painting, stained glass, fresco and illuminated manuscripts. The easily recognizable shifts in architecture from Romanesque to Gothic, and Gothic to Renaissance styles, are typically used to define the periods in art in all media, although in many ways figurative art developed at a different pace.

The killers arrived before dusk in a rickety pickup truck, stopping at a cheap, no-name motel on the outskirts of Tarzana. Hunkered down in their room, Brother Elzibah wrote farewell letters to his loved ones, including his young son ("I am willing to give up my life to free you"). Then the monks pressed "RECORD" and made their martyr statements as the tape whirred.

"It is now 7:30pm," noted Brother Jeroham. "Within the next four hours, we will drive to Box Canyon, see Krishna... and the demand a right adjustment be made... This may be our last night in the world. Dear God, give us freedom or death."

The Irminsul rock carving at Externsteine

The carving, which shows a sacred Odinic Irminsul being destroyed, must have been carved after Charlemagne's reign of terror against anything non-Christian during the eighth century. Prior to that time Externsteine, which is located within Germany's Black Forest, had been a most sacred location.

"The destruction of Irminsul by Charlemagne" by Heinrich Leutemann, 1882

Externsteine - Between Neo-Pagans and Neo-Nazis, these strange rock formations have a curious cult following and a very strange history

Atlas Obscura

Horn-Bad Meinberg, Germany

Externsteine, translated variously as “stones of the Egge” or, less convincingly, the “Star Stones,” is a series of pillar-like rock formations that jut up from the surrounding Teutoburg forest. No mere geological curiosity, Externsteine is also reputed to be an ancient and sacred palaeolithic worshiping ground, an astronomical calendar, and the location of a sacred pagan pillar known as an “Irminsul.” Externsteine is a current mecca for Neo-pagans, Neo-Nazis and neo-pagan-Nazis.

In actuality, the pre-history of these rocks is largely unknown, and archaeological digs have turned up little to suggest they were of any great meaning to Paleolithic peoples. The odd rock formations were probably used as an occasional shelter until the late 700s when Christian monks settled at Externsteine and carved stairs and reliefs into the great stones. The site would continue to change purpose, serving as a fortress, pleasure palace, and prison before becoming something even stranger: a place famed for its history and spiritual significance despite the fact that the “history” is largely a fiction created by Nazi Occultists.

The Process Church of the Final Judgement Documents

This is a 520-page PDF document, apparently compiled by an anonymous source, which details the complex beliefs of the decades old group. These records come from the below website.

Process Church Of The Final Judgment Resource site for The Process Church and the works of Robert De Grimston

************

Process Church of the Final Judgment

The Process Church of the Final Judgment, commonly known as the Process Church, was a religious group established in London in 1966. Its founders were the British couple Mary Ann MacClean and Robert de Grimston and it spread across parts of the United Kingdom and United States during the latter 1960s and 1970s.

The Process Church was established by MacLean and de Grimston in London in 1966. The pair had met several years previously, when they were both members of the Church of Scientology. The duo were ejected from the Church in 1962 and married the following year. They started a Scientology splinter group called Compulsions Analysis, which gained new religious elements and developed into the Process Church. Its members initially lived in a commune in Mayfair before moving to Xtul in Mexico's Yucatan peninsula. They later established a base of operations in the United States in New Orleans. Prosecutors investigating the Los Angeles murders committed by the Manson Family in 1969 suggested that there were links between Charles Manson and the Process Church. Although no proof of such a connection was ever provided, the allegations damaged the Church's reputation.

In the early 1970s, the sociologist William Sims Bainbridge studied the group, producing an in-depth account of its activities. In 1974, MacLean and de Grimston separated. The latter tried to continue the group with a small following, but this folded in 1979. MacLean retained the allegiance of the majority of Church members, reforming the group as the Foundation Church of the Millennium and taking it into an explicitly Christian direction. It was later transformed into the Best Friends Animal Society, based at Kanab, Utah.

Serial killer Sam Berkowitz claims that he was a part of the Process Church, an allegation which even Wikipedia thought was too hot to handle. If they were involved even remotely in what they have been accused of over the years, then they most certainly would still be operating underground. I know for a fact that there are Satanic groups, like what they allegedly were, all around. It's just part of the human social contract. When the Christian inquisitors were killing people to "stamp out Satan," they literally created "Biblical-style Satanism" through the power of suggestion (as well as their gruesome deeds). There were no such groups before that. It's just part of the world; I don't think they can be stopped.

'40,000-Year-Old Severed Wolf's Head Found in Siberia'

By Tim Binnall - Coast To Coast AM - June 12, 2019

A Siberian man searching for mammoth tusks amid melting permafrost was taken aback when he stumbled upon the severed head of a wolf that turned out to be 40,000 years old. The remarkable find was reportedly made last year as Pavel Efimov walked along the shore of a river in the district of Yakutia. He subsequently turned it over to scientists, who kept the discovery under wraps until they unveiled it this week at an event in Tokyo.

According to experts who examined the remarkable remains, the wolf likely roamed the Earth during the Pleistocene era and was considerably bigger than its modern-day counterparts that reside in the region today. The head of the animal, alone, they say measures 16 inches, which is around half the size of a modern gray wolf's whole body. Scientists were particularly excited about the discovery because of its well-preserved nature. To that end, not only were the animal's teeth and fur still intact, but so was its brain.

As to how or why the wolf's head wound up being severed from its body, experts postulated that the ancient decapitation was probably not the work of human hands, because the region where it was found was not settled by people until a period long after the event likely took place. Despite only having the head to work with, scientists hope to reconstruct the complete creature for some kind of display in the future while also studying the DNA of the ancient wolf to gain new insights into the long-departed canines which once called Siberia home.

This song will always remind me of the film 'Boogie Nights' and the crazy "drug deal gone bad" scene with Alfred Molina aka "Rahad Jackson." I suppose it reminds me of places that I was when I was about 19-23, where you just wander into places and situations... often due to the recklessness of those around you. I was shot at several different times. At that age people either really want you around, or they really don't want you around; not much neutral, at least where I was hanging out.

Mothballs are actually toxic and dangerous

'Mothballs: Why you don’t actually need it'

Ayu Larasati - Treeusable - July 10, 2018

The smell of mothballs, although pungent, is admittedly somewhat nostalgic. For me, it brings me back to my grandmother’s teak wardrobe, a custom-made gift she had received on her wedding day with my late grandfather. I would watch her as she perused through her clothes, picking out which top would best fit the day’s occasion, forever the fashionable woman that I know and love. In the recesses of her wardrobe shelves were white, spherical crystals, hidden away from plain sight but could be smelled upon opening the wardrobe. If either my little sister or I managed to find one and played with it, we would be reprimanded and made to wash our hands twice before being reprimanded again. It doesn’t happen very often, the mothball playing, but from the handful of times that it did happen, both my sister and I knew and understood that we shouldn’t touch mothballs and we definitely shouldn’t put out hands in our mouths if we touched one.

Some old graffiti resurfaces

Recently while walking some trails nearby where I grew up, I saw some graffiti on the back of some old commercical light industrial buildings. I was amazed that it was the same as it was forty or more years earlier! There was AC/DC, Van Halen, WPOD ("White Punks On Dope"), along with swastikas and SS symbols. These were not old taggings, but fairly recent. It was like a time warp; so different than the endless gang-banger taggings in so many places. Some of the old hard rock bands have numerous generations of fans, and there has not been any new ones which have been heavily promoted for at least twenty-five years now. Quite frankly, I suppose it's due to disenchanted white youth, told how evil they are in the modern school curriculum. When youths are told how bad they are, often they will just become it. When young males are frequently treated disrespectfully (aside from dicipline) by adults, their school, the police, etc... they do not respond well to it. I would guess that in this case, it was more like goofing off though.

Musical allegory

For me this is one of those songs, as I put it once, with "subjective symbolism and metaphoric meaning." Just on the surface, to me, it's a song about a time of hardship, and looking for some inspiration to make it through. Even if you're not in hardship, there may have been a time in which you were, and it could be a metaphor for that. The "boys" could be a reference to someone or something which you admire and/or wish to be a part of. However, in your present state, that may be far off. Getting lost "in your rock and roll" could symbolize a culture, a value, a place, anything associated with them. "Free my soul" could represent the need for momentary inspiration, or a far off goal... or both.

"And when my mind is free
You know a melody can move me"

These lines are interesting in that they seem to suggest the strength of one's inner spirit and heart. That all they need is some nexus to what they're striving or hoping for... both metaphorically and literally in the song. There are other lines which further drive all of these points home. Of course, being a great song helps cement the concept for anyone who may identify with a possible meaningful allegorical connection to it. To me, it doesn't at all sound like a love song; but one of male energy... "brotherhood." It could even tie into a theme of irredentism... more personal than political.

"Drift Away"

Day after day I'm more confused
Yet I look for the light through the pouring rain
You know that's a game that I hate to lose
And I'm feelin' the strain
Ain't it a shame

Oh, give me the beat boys and free my soul
I wanna get lost in your rock and roll and drift away
Oh, give me the beat boys and free my soul
I wanna get lost in your rock and roll and drift away

Beginning to think that I'm wastin' time
I don't understand the things I do
The world outside looks so unkind
And I'm countin' on you
To carry me through

Oh, give me the beat boys and free my soul
I wanna get lost in your rock and roll and drift away
Yeah, give me the beat boys and free my soul
I wanna get lost in your rock and roll and drift away

And when my mind is free
You know a melody can move me
And when I'm feelin' blue
The guitar's comin' through to soothe me

Thanks for the joy that you've given me
I want you to know I believe in your song
And rhythm and rhyme and harmony
You've helped me along
Makin' me strong

Oh, give me the beat boys and free my soul
I wanna get lost in your rock and roll and drift away
Give me the beat boys and free my soul
I wanna get lost in your rock and roll and drift away

Oh, give me the beat boys and free my soul
I wanna get lost in your rock and roll and drift away
Hey, give me the beat boys and free my soul
I wanna get lost in your rock and roll and drift away

Na na na, won't you, won't you take me
Oh, take me
