'The Brightest Visible Planets in January's Night Sky: How to See them (and When)'

Joe Rao - Space.com - January 1, 2020

The year 2020 will evolve into the "Year of the Planets," with Venus soaring high into the western sky by late winter and early spring.

Mars will spend much of this year slowly approaching the Earth, finally arriving at opposition in early October and glowing like a fiery beacon high in our early fall skies. Jupiter and Saturn will approach each other during winter and early spring, closing to within 5 degrees of each other in May, before separating for the rest of the spring and the summer, before they again approach each other in September, ultimately squeezing together in December for their closest conjunction in nearly four centuries.

As for this month, Venus dazzles us in the southwest sky at sunset. Mercury begins appearing far below and to Venus's right during the final week of the month.  Also during the finally week of January, Jupiter will emerge into view low in the southeast just prior to sunrise.  Mars also can be seen in the southeast, rising about three hours before sunrise and hovering near its "rival," the ruddy star, Antares around the 18th. Saturn is the only planet "out of the loop" so to speak, arriving at conjunction with the sun near mid-month, and unobservable for all of January.

Why Do These Televangelists Need Expensive Jets?

You’ve seen them on TV, popular televangelists who preach the gospel to millions around the world. You may be surprised that these men of God are living a lifestyle few could imagine. Jesse Duplantis and Kenneth Copeland drive fancy cars and live in lavish mansions. They also fly in private jets. It's impossible to know exactly how much money these ministries take in each year because they are not required to make financial disclosures of donations they receive and all of it is tax exempt.

I recall Jesse Duplantis openly informing his congregation that he was one of the richest people in Louisiana, and I seem to recall that he said something like #2 or #3.

Lyrics:

We'll meet again
Don't know where
Don't know when
But I know
We'll meet again
Some sunny day

Keep smilin' thru
Just like you
Always do
'Til the blue skies drive
The dark clouds
Far away

And will you please say hello
to the folks that i know
Tell'em that I won't be long
And they'll be happy to know
That when you saw me go
I was singing this song

We'll meet again
Don't know where
Don't know when
But I know
We'll meet again
Some sunny day

(spoken)
Yeah we'll meet again
I don't know where
Anf I don't know when
But I do know
That we'll meet again
Some sunny day

(spoken)
So Honey

Keep on smilin' thru
Just like you always do
'Til the blue skies
Drive the dark clouds
Far away

And would you please say hello
To all the folks that I know
And tell'em I won't be long
They'll be happy to know
That when you saw me go
I was singing this song

(with choir)
We'll meet again
Don't know where
Don't know when
But I know
We'll meet again
Some sunny day

We'll Meet Again

"We'll Meet Again" is a 1939 British song made famous by singer Vera Lynn with music and lyrics composed and written by English songwriters Ross Parker and Hughie Charles. The song is one of the most famous of the Second World War era, and resonated with soldiers going off to fight as well as their families and sweethearts.

The song gave its name to the 1943 musical film We'll Meet Again in which Dame Vera Lynn played the lead role (see 1943 in music). Lynn's recording is featured in the final scene of Stanley Kubrick's 1964 film Dr. Strangelove, and was also used in the closing scenes of the 1986 BBC television serial The Singing Detective. British director John Schlesinger used the song in his 1979 World War II film Yanks, which is about British citizens and American soldiers during the military buildup in the UK as the Allies prepare for the D-Day Invasion.

During the Cold War, Lynn's recording was included in the package of music and programmes held in 20 underground radio stations of the BBC's Wartime Broadcasting Service (WTBS), designed to provide public information and morale-boosting broadcasts for 100 days after a nuclear attack. Lynn sang the song in London on the 60th Anniversary of VE Day in 2005.

The original recording

Vera Lynn - We'll Meet Again

I prefer the one by Johnny Cash, as it somehow stays true to the actual meaning of the song, while the original version sounds like a show tune. People project their own meaning to things. To me it sounds like it could be a reflection of wishful thinking; an individual's own self-reflection of "the good ole days."

Crescent Moon and Venus - Sequim Washington, July 15, 2018

Randall Wingett

Sunday, July 15 at 10:30 p.m. I stepped outdoors to look at an unremarkable fading sunset before heading to bed. My attention was instantly captured by a brilliantly clear crescent moon low on the horizon and a very bright star or planet nearby. I rushed back into the house, grabbed my Nikon D7100 with a 200mm zoom lens attached and a tripod, and ran out into the yard where I could compose these photos and videos with some interesting large fir trees in the foreground. Wow, what a spectacular event! Afterwards, a quick Internet search described this visual close proximity of planet Venus and the moon on this date.

************

I saw this phenomenon last night while hiking. In between rains we've had some beautiful sunny/chilly weather lately. The sky was slightly lighter than this, a thin crescent facing to the left with a bright Venus right above it within a clearing in the trees, beautiful. With only the slender crescent portion showing, along with a bright Venus, the two meshed together so well. It caught be by surprise as I hadn't seen the moon for some time, and suddenly the powerful ancient symbol was just there!

'Family Finds Owl in Their Christmas Tree'

By Tim Binnall - CoastToCoastAM.com - December 19, 2019

A family in Georgia found that they had an unexpected guest in their home this holiday season when they discovered an owl that had been living in their Christmas tree. The avian visitor reportedly came to light last Thursday when Katie McBride Newman's daughter came running into their dining room and declared "that ornament scared me" before bursting into tears. Ironically enough, their tree already happened to have several owl-themed decorations on the tree and so the mom initially thought that the youngster's consternation was simply a bit of confusion.

However, Newman was swiftly surprised when she took a closer look at what she thought was the offending ornament and it turned to look at her! "And I'm like, 'Oh, that's a real owl,'" she recalled. Since there seemed to be no other explanation for how the bird wound up in their home, the family suspects that it came with the tree, which they bought on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Amazingly, that would mean that the owl had been lurking in the Christmas tree for nearly two weeks before anyone noticed that it was there.

Now faced with the challenge of how to help the owl find its way back to the wilderness, the family first left all their doors and windows open overnight in the hopes that the bird would fly away. Alas, it would seem that it had taken a liking to the domesticated life as it was still there when they woke up the next morning. Fortunately, a worker from a local wildlife center came to their home a few days later and captured the owl. Bolstering the theory that the bird had come with the tree, the creature was noticeably thin when it was caught, but has since been provided with a well-deserved meal for its troubles.

Countdown to the Pagan New Year - Part 1

Roman Festival Of Veneralia For The Goddess Venus On April 1, 2010

MichaelTheResearcher

Thursday, April 1, 2010 - the day of the Roman Festival of Veneralia dedicated to The Goddess Venus. I endeavored some ancient reenacting today, and did as the Romans did. I tried to be as historically-accurate as possible. I erected a nice Shrine and Altar. Therein you will see a soaking-wet and dripping Venus Statue. On this day in antiquity, the Romans washed all of the Venus Statues and adorned Them with flowers. In that spirit, I made sure She has been ritually cleaned and prepared with the proper offerings.

She was originally associated with vegetation so I added plenty of vegetables in addition to fruit and some peanut snacks (German import purchased at Aldi). The Venus De Milo to the right is a clay statue I made earlier this year. The image to the left is an albumen print photo dating to the late 1800s. It features the specific Capitoline Venus (based on the Aphrodite Of Cnidus or Aphrodite Of Menophantos). Happy Veneralia!!

Photos of the Shrine/Altar can be seen at these links:

Veneralia

Observed by: Ancient Romans

Type: Classical Roman religion

Observances: Adornment of statues of Venus with flowers

Date: April 1

The Veneralia was an ancient Roman festival celebrated April 1 (the Kalends of Aprilis) in honor of Venus Verticordia ("Venus the changer of hearts") and Fortuna Virilis ("Manly" or "Virile Fortune").

The cult of Venus Verticordia was established in 220 BC, just before the beginning of the Second Punic War, in response to advice from a Sibylline oracle, when a series of prodigies was taken to signify divine displeasure at sexual offenses among Romans of every category and class, including several men and three Vestal Virgins. Her statue was dedicated by a young woman, chosen as the most pudica (sexually pure) in Rome by a committee of Roman matrons. At first, the statue was probably housed within the temple to Fortuna Virilis. This cult, much older than any cult to Venus but possibly perceived as weak or gone to seed, may have benefited from the moral and religious support of Venus as a relatively new but senior deity; for Ovid, Venus's acceptance of the epithet and its responsibilities represented the goddess' own change of heart.

In 114 BC Venus Verticordia was given her own temple. She was meant to persuade Romans of both sexes and every class, whether married or unmarried, to cherish the traditional sexual proprieties and morality known to please the gods and benefit the State. During the Veneralia, her cult image was taken from her temple to the men's baths, where it was undressed and washed in warm water by her female attendants, then garlanded with myrtle. At the Veneralia, women and men asked Venus Verticordia for her help in affairs of the heart, sex, betrothal and marriage. Fortuna Virilis was given cult on the same day.

************

To our pagan ancestors, April 1st was "New Years Day," therefore the Roman festival of Veneralia was something of a carryover from earlier traditions. I'm not really a believer that Stregheria is from the Etruscan or Roman religions; but that the Old Religion melded with new nation states as they came into existence. Of course, there is much crossover there, and throughout pagan Europe. Apparently, and maybe someone can verify this, the Vernal Equinox ("Ostara"; March 19-22) was separate from the "Pagan New Years Day." I've read items to this effect, but I'm not certain. I think this concept should be given another serious look.

A challenging quote

"I'm tired of being told who to admire in this country. Aren't you sick of being told of who your heroes ought to be? You know? Being told who you ought to be looking up to. I'll choose my own heroes, thank you very much." -- George Carlin

Leap year

My mother has always recited a variation of this old leap year poem.

Thirty days hath September

Thirty days hath September,
April, June, and November.
Thirty-one hath all the rest,
Except for February clear which has 28 and 29 in a leap year.

Thirty days hath September,
April, June, and November
All the rest have 31,
Except for February.

Thirty days hath September,
April, June and November
All the rest have thirty-one
But February's but how much

How Dangerous Is The Deep Web?

Alltime Conspiracies

The deep web makes up about 99% of the internet. To most of us it remains an unfamiliar entity. The media often portrays it as a dark and secretive place. Is this true? Alltime Conspiracies investigates.

Deep web (search)

The deep web, deep net, invisible web, or hidden web are parts of the World Wide Web whose contents are not indexed by standard search engines for any reason. The deep web is opposite to the surface web.

Computer scientist Mike Bergman is credited with coining the term in 2000. The term "deep web" is often conflated with its subset dark web, which refers to the content that is purposefully obscured from the public internet by requiring specific software, configurations or authorization to be accessed.

Oms for Mid-Autumn

Venus

Venus is always brighter than all other planets or stars as seen from Earth. Even Jupiter, the second-brightest object in this image, never matches the brightness of Venus. Venus is always brighter than any star (apart from the Sun).Venus is always brighter than all other planets or stars as seen from Earth. Even Jupiter, the second-brightest object in this image, never matches the brightness of Venus. Venus is always brighter than any star (apart from the Sun).

Venus is named after Venus, the Roman goddess of love and beauty. The Islamic "crescent moon" symbol is actually a symbol of the planet Venus, which displays it's own occasional crescent. Venus, Earth, and Mars are the second, third, and fourth planets from the Sun. Mars was named after Mars, the Roman god of war. I suspect that the "men are from Mars, women are from Venus" concept is actually based on certain energetic qualities, and perhaps a lot more. The symbols of each are the same as the symbols of the male and female genders.

Modern humanity disports these energies as they pertain to us, and those energies must just laugh as we hopelessly attempt to fight the balance of nature. Monopoly Capitalism and Cultural Marxism are the most comical such attempts to disrupt the balance of energies that guide us and our planet. If not, then they would not need coercion, propaganda, force, laws, and punishment to enforce what is proper and just?

Alpha Centauri

The Sun is "our star." Occasionally, when the late afternoon Sun is bright and partially obscured by foliage, we can look at it and marvel at this great fireball in the sky. However, what is our next closest star/solar system? It's called Alpha Centauri.

The Sun is the closest star to Earth, about 93 million miles away. The Sun's nearest neighbor, Alpha Centauri, is actually a triple-star system —three stars bound together by gravity. Alpha Centauri A and B are two bright, closely orbiting stars with a distant, dim companion, Proxima Centauri.

It's very curious to me that this star system consists of two stars and one red dwarf star. Saturn, regardless if it's supposed to be some type of "secret" or not, was once a dwarf star only a few thousand years ago. One of the Alpha Centauri stars has a unique bluish color to it, reminding me of the "blue flame" of a small blow torch.

This system is 4.367 light years away, which shows how vast space really is.. if the closest star from the Sun would take perhaps many centuries to reach. One really weird concept, which has arisen in scientific circles, is that with man and machine merging... a person could be assigned for one of these journeys after such a merger in whatever form that may take.

Alpha Centauri (Wikipedia)

Coulrophobia

Coulrophobia is defined as an abnormal fear of clowns. The term appeared in the mid 1980's, and is believed to originate from the Greek term for stilt walkers, and, of course, phobia - meaning fear or anxiety.

It is thought the fear itself comes from a revulsion of things similar to human form, yet exaggerated, or not perfect. Plus, clowns are just damned creepy...

I think that this idea really sprang from the serial killer John Wayne Gacy, who had been a clown. He called himself "Pogo the Clown," and actually worked as a clown, entertained, children, etc. This gave rise to a large number of popular themes in horror movies since that time. A search of "pogo the clown" would show a photo of him giving an almost evil grin as if out've a B-horror flick... although I would rather not post it here. I only mention it because I had posted something about this subject prior to making the full connection.

Singing coyotes

A few evenings ago, I had my window open and could hear that I thought were dogs howling. Since it was after 9 PM, I knew this was unlikely. Clearly, these were coyotes; giving us a reminder that the wild spirit hasn't disappeared from the area. The local variety here are more golden brown in color. I've seen them numerous times this past year.
