Guido von List: Part 34 - Rakotzbrücke and the Circle of Nature

'Visiting Rakotzbrücke Devil’s Bridge, Saxony Germany'

Rakotzbrücke, or the Devil’s Bridge, is an iconic arched bridge located in the picturesque Kromlau Park in eastern Germany. The circular bridge attracts many visitors, in part due to its recent Instagram fame, and is an easy day trip from Berlin. We visited the stunning RakotzbrUcke as part of a Germany road trip and loved exploring the park and the mythical bridge.

Azalea and Rhododendron Park Kromlau

The Azalea and Rhododendron Park Kromlau is a 200-acre (81 ha) landscaped park in Gablenz, Germany. It was built in the nineteenth century. The park is an example of an English landscape garden, and it contains many small ponds and lakes.

The Rakotzbrücke (also known as Teufelsbrücke, meaning "the Devil's Bridge") is a bridge especially built to create a circle when it is reflected in the water beneath it. The bridge's artificially-formed basalt columns were selected and shipped from distant quarries.

Guido von List and the primordial wheel of nature

If you pick up a simple rock and examine it, there appears to be no activity. You may have pulled it out of a newly dug out ditch, and it may have been down there for a very long time; perhaps tens, thousands, or even tens of thousands of years, or longer. However at the sub-atomic level, there is still activity within it. There is "movement." The ancient sun wheel represented the movement, the regeneration, and the cycle of life within nature; including the cosmos itself. Galaxies are ever burning and spinning; our Sun is constantly exploding and turning. A wreath represents the every changing nature on Earth; storms, hurricanes, volcanoes, or simply the seasons themselves. Birth, Life, Death and to a New Arising! A heavy storm with thunder and lightning in the dark of night often is followed by the most tranquil sunny morning with the chirping of birds.

Rakotzbrücke was constructed for the purpose of creating the illusion of a circle when the water was still. The lower half of the circle is within the water itself in our imagination; looping from the air into the water... without either, life itself could not exist. Some ancient mountain altars were designed in the shape of a half or partial circle, with the other part theoretically embedded into the mountain itself... into the Earth; from the molten inner core to the cool surface and air. From season to season, within the magickal mirror of Rakotzbrücke, the primordial cycle of nature can be literally be observed within the symbol of the circle of nature. A mystical conflation of the physical regeneration of nature within an ancient motif; a circle of nature, half in our physical world and half embedded in the spirit world of the great Ur..
