If you happen to be in the area around Banff, maybe try the Ticino Swiss Italian Restaurant. The town of Banff has a population of 7,847 and looks like a combo of Aspen and South Lake Tahoe. I can't vouch for this restaurant, but it looks like it has some regionally specific Ticinese recipes. I didn't see one item I remember from Ticinese cuisine... roasted ferret.

One year ago, California was officially declared out of it's seven year drought. However, currently 59% of the state is abnormally dry. Unlike most states, California has a normal virtually rain-free six-month dry season from approximately the start of May through October. I have a tremendous amount of outdoor work and projects to do, but I feel like I can't celebrate Spring and the coming pleasant weather as I would like to.

This week, The Lake Erie Murders examines the death of a nun in a hospital chapel in Toledo, Ohio, in 1980. Sister Margaret Ann Pahl’s body was found on the floor of the vestibule of the former Mercy Hospital on Holy Saturday, a day before Easter. It was also a day before her 72nd birthday.

Her killer was a priest, Father Gerald Robinson, who was the chaplain at the hospital. Church historians have said this is the only recorded case of a priest murdering a nun.

A particularly gruesome murder

An autopsy revealed that Sister Margaret Ann had been choked to the edge of death before being stabbed in the head, neck, and face. She had been draped with an altar cloth, and nine of her stab wounds were in the shape of an upside-down cross. There was a smear of blood across her forehead as if she had been anointed in the last rites.

Robinson was questioned at the time, and investigators had their suspicions, but the case went cold due to a lack of evidence. However, the case was reopened in 2003 after a woman accused Robinson of sexually assaulting her when she was a child; these charges were dropped, but police looked again at the evidence from the 1980 murder.

In a recent broadcast of Investigation Discovery's 'The Lake Erie Murders', in an episode entitled 'Black Sabbath', the 1980 case of "Murder of Margaret Ann Pahl" was featured. Father Gerald Robinson, if he was truly guilty, was proof of a Roman Catholic Priest who also happened to be a dark-occult Satanic murderer. Even today---even with all the problems in the church, even with known dark occult practices in high places---this seems almost unfathomable. It's like a Fire Chief being an arsonist!

As covered here before, there are different types of Satanism, of which Father Robinson was of the very worse kind: The practice of evil based on a willful antagonism against Biblical Christianity. The crime clearly had the marks, including an upside down cross, of a ritual murder. It should also be stated that more than a few people believe him to be innocent of the charges. Anyone who follows true crime must have their one favorite "innocent but convicted" case. Even if I entertained one ounce of a thought that he might be innocent, his courtroom manner of what appeared to be total indifference would have been the sealer for me. He couldn't have looked more guilty if he tried! His double-life and it's dramatic contradictions makes this case truly bizarre.

Raven Grimassi passed away one year ago today. I've come to believe that we are on this earth, in each of our many lifetimes here, in order to advance the baton in probably a number of areas to the best of our limited abilities. In spite of all of our faults, "the best of us" will usually do this in at least whatever small measure that we can. I think Raven did that very well, however the collective journey continues. "BE the change that you want to see in the world."

If you lose someone from your life--whether family, friend, mentor, or more of a public figure--BE that person in a sense, if you see fit to do so. That is one of the greatest honors that we can bestow upon another person. I think that one of the first spirits which he met after he passed, perhaps right after those to which he was closest here on earth, was Aradia herself. She must have stood tall and beautiful, and she may have said something such as "You have done well my kindred."

This earthly realm, although it often does not feel so, is all about us! Not in a manner of greed, but our experiences are its primary purpose for being. I believe this concept was a part of Raven's quote above. I like to believe that those ancestors of mine who had their true essential culture taken away from them, can look down upon me under the moonlight and be able to say "Even after all of this time, he chose US and our ways over all others." I no longer say "RIP," since Raven will continue on in his own soul journey, and we must continue on as well.

The “Bennington Triangle”

Bermuda Triangle is very well known, but not quite so well known is the “Bennington Triangle”

…the name given to a mysterious area in southwestern Vermont, by author Joe Citro, describing an area in which a number of people went missing between 1920 and 1950. Primarily known for the Battle of Bennington, the region is rich in historical events dating back to the 1700’s. Bennington is fertile ground for ghostly events, folklore and supernatural occurrences. The region is often referred to as the “Bennington Triangle” due to the many odd, unexplained happenings within its surroundings, buildings and nearby mountains. Native Americans consider Glastenbury Mountain “cursed” and used it strictly for burying their dead.  Locals believe that Native Americans regarded Glastenbury as “cursed” and avoided it, as well as tales of hairy “wild men” and other strange beasts in the woods.  They believed the land to be cursed because all four winds met in that spot. There is also mention in native American folklore of an enchanted stone which is said to swallow anything that steps on it.

Over the years there have been between 30-40 unexplained disappearances on the mountain.  It is known for certain that at least five persons from this area went missing, some of them on Glastenbury Mountain itself, between 1945 and 1950. These include 74 year-old Middie Rivers, 68 year-old James Tedford, 8 year-old Paul Jepson, 18 year-old Paula Welden, and 53 year-old Frieda Langer. Of these remains of only one was found, that of Frieda Langer.Over the years there have been between 30-40 unexplained disappearances on the mountain.  It is known for certain that at least five persons from this area went missing, some of them on Glastenbury Mountain itself, between 1945 and 1950. Most reports on the subject view the circumstances as mysterious, as her body turned up in some tall grasses in an area that had been searched extensively a number of times in the seven months between her disappearance and the discovery of the corpse in an area that had been searched many times, making it unlikely that the search teams had simply missed her. There were several strange circumstances surrounding these disappearances. These are just a few examples of people who have come up missing in the area.

Because of the wide ranges of age and gender of the missing persons, it is thought that the possibility of them being victims of a serial killer is unlikely. This, combined with a lack of any evidence to offer support for any more prosaic explanation, has led many to speculate on possible paranormal causes, including abduction by UFO occupants, “cross dimensional wormholes”, or attack by the “Bennington Monster.” The trails stop partially up the mountain, suggesting that no one goes up there.  When you walk into the woodlands of Glastenbury Mountain you don’t hear anything living, it’s as though even the animals don’t dare to venture there.

Short documentary I made a few years ago when I was taking a documentary course in college. Its 20 minutes long split up into two parts on youtube. Its not really finished, I thought I was going to spend the time to re cut some of it but its been sitting on my hard drive for so long and I probably won't ever re cut the film. So I figured I would post in its current state. The editing needs to be paced better and I probably should have conducted some more interviews. When researching the Paula Welden case I found out she has two or three sisters and one who is supposedly still alive, I tried to track her down online to see if I could get an interview but couldn't really find anything. If anyone in fact knows hows to get in touch with current family members let me know and I would probably still be interested in going out to do the interview and posting it on here.

One day, we were sitting around the large desk of one of our conference rooms, discussing over and unders and the staggering heritage that links these guns to the five centuries of Beretta history.

At one point, Angela pointed out that most people recognize the Beretta logo: the iconic three arrows and circles often referred to as "Trident," but that most people don't really know why and how Beretta's logo came to be.

On our Facebook and Twitter accounts, we have mentioned it, in the past, and have answered questions about just this, but I thought it wise to publish a quick post about our most recognizable graphic.

Like all respectable 500-year old companies, Beretta has had its share of logos: the shield with the letters "PB" (for Pietro Beretta, the father of the industrialized Beretta,) the duck with open wings, and the more simple "Fabbrica d'Armi Pietro Beretta" are some of the representations that many of our readers will recognize.

And then, there's the "Trident," which (truth be told) is not a trident at all.

The story of this logo starts not far from Gardone Val Trompia, in the small town of Cargnacco, where poet, writer, director, mariner and journalist Gabriele d'Annunzio ended his days, in the late 1930s.

When you walk into the villa that Gabriele d'Annunzio purchased and where he retired, you will find the very first "Trident." It was he who, ever-the-artist, developed this graphic design to symbolize the will to get things done. The encircled arrows represent the three shots fired by a battleship that engages a potential enemy: the arrow on the left reprents the first warning shot, fired at the ship's stern; the arrow on the right represents the second warning shot, fired at the ship's bow. The central arrow is the last round fired, when the ship doesn't yield: this one is aimed at the ship itself. The logo was dubbed "Dare In Brocca" or "hit the target."

Mr. Beretta was fascinated with this symbol, and asked Gabriele d'Annunzio if he could "borrow it." Gabriele d'Annunzio gave Mr. Beretta the rights to use it as the company's symbol, and from that moment, the "Trident" became the company's logo.

So, now you know it. Next time you're wearing a hat like this one, or carry your Beretta firearm to the range or on the field, make sure you share this story with your fellow shooters!

Gary Charles Erbe (April 12, 1951 – March 10, 2019), known as Raven Grimassi, was an American author of over 20 books, including topics on Wicca, Stregheria, witchcraft and neo-paganism. He popularized Stregheria, the religious practice of witchcraft with roots in Italy. Grimassi presented this material in the form of neo-paganism through his books. Raven had been a practitioner of witchcraft for over 45 years and was the co-director of the Ash, Birch and Willow tradition. He died of pancreatic cancer on March 10, 2019.
