Tana's Day 2019 - Part V

Monte Fitz Roy

"The Matterhorn of South America"

The new Windows sign-in image is one of Monte Fitz Roy in Patagonia, although I usually can't find the actual image that they use. The mountain is 11,171 feet elevation, and is the subject of so many wonderful angles from different spots. It's almost like the Matterhorn of the cone of South America, as it looks so Alpine.

Our True Purpose

According to alternative researcher John Lear, the following is a definition of how we're supposed to live our life here on earth, in a reincarnation/soul journey/metaphysical sort've way....

Live your life with integrity---without envy, hate, or fear---and express your love to your family each and every day.

I love the quote, but harsh evolutionary struggle has to be factored in as well I believe.

The beautiful Eliza Dushku

I just saw her in the first 'Wrong Turn' horror film. It was a fresh overt take on a typical horror flick theme of a group of people stranded deep in the woods... in "the hills of West Virginia." They are attacked by a group of inbred savage cannibals who look like big apes! She looks more impressive on a moving image aka "in person"... more than in a photograph.

'All that is gold does not glitter'

All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

From the ashes, a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.

JILL TRACY: Sonic Séance in the Redwoods (LIVE)

Jill Tracy

Join Jill Tracy at a grand piano surrounded by century-old redwood trees for a very special sonic séance, on the night of a New Moon deep within the Redwood Grove at San Francisco's Botanical Gardens. This music was created spontaneously in front of the crowd, creating an utterly singular experience— majestic and powerful, revealing the hidden music of the woods.

This performance was part of NightGarden 2017 in Golden Gate Park.

Tana's Day 2019 - Part IV

The Full Pink Moon

This year it's a tweener, taking place at 7:12 AM EST on Friday, April 19. On the west coast it's perhaps more on "Thursday evening"; officially it's on Friday evening.

'Now We Know That Dark Matter Isn’t Primordial Black Holes'

Matt Williams - Universe Today - April 6, 2019

For over fifty years, scientists have theorized that roughly 85% of matter in the Universe’s is made up of a mysterious, invisible mass. Since then, multiple observation campaigns have indirectly witnessed the effects that this “Dark Matter” has on the Universe. Unfortunately, all attempts to detect it so far have failed, leading scientists to propose some very interesting theories about its nature.

One such theory was offered by the late and great Stephen Hawking, who proposed that the majority of dark matter may actually be primordial black holes (PBH) smaller than a tenth of a millimeter in diameter. But after putting this theory through its most rigorous test to date, an international team of scientists led from the Kavli Institute for the Physics and Mathematics of the Universe (IPMU) has confirmed that it is not.

con't....

************

Dark Matter: Bottom Line Fact

What we know of as "matter" represents only a sampling of 5% of total matter. The other 95% being "dark matter."

************

Dark matter is a supersolid that fills ’empty’ space, strongly interacts with ordinary matter and is displaced by ordinary matter. What is referred to geometrically as curved spacetime physically exists in nature as the state of displacement of the supersolid dark matter. The state of displacement of the supersolid dark matter is gravity.

The supersolid dark matter displaced by a galaxy pushes back, causing the stars in the outer arms of the galaxy to orbit the galactic center at the rate in which they do.

Displaced supersolid dark matter is curved spacetime.

In the Bullet Cluster collision the dark matter has not separated from the ordinary matter. The collision is analogous to two boats that collide, the boats slow down and their bow waves continue to propagate. The water has not separated from the boats, the bow waves have. In the Bullet Cluster collision the galaxy’s associated dark matter displacement waves have separated from the colliding galaxies, causing the light to lense as it passes through the waves.

Eerie photo from the demented collection of serial killer Rodney Alcala. Nobody even knows who all of these photographs are of, but hopefully they weren't among his many victims. He murdered 50 women, and many experts thing that he murdered many more... as many as 150. Of course, the photos appear innocent. There's even one of Alcala holding a female child, which is quite creepy since he actually murdered little girls as well.

'Abandoned Town of Cairo, Illinois'

A once-booming Mississippi River port town has transformed into an eerie, mostly abandoned ghost town.

From Atlas Obscura

Situated at the confluence of the Mississippi River and the Ohio River, at the southernmost point in Illinois, the port town of Cairo (pronounced CARE-o) boomed along with the steamboat industry. When railroads crisscrossed the United States some of the steamboat traffic was subtracted, but Cairo was also an important station point along numerous train lines.

Today, however, a walk or drive through Cairo will find it eerily empty. The historic downtown area, once bustling and busy, is now filled with crumbling brick and plywood-covered windows. Cairo has been decaying for decades, and currently the business district is virtually totally boarded up, tumbling down, or razed. The deterioration has slowly made its way “uptown” (northwest) into residential neighborhoods as well.

The town has mostly been abandoned because of its economic desperation, though its history of racial tension certainly didn’t help. The Civil War Reconstruction period brought a migration of African Americans to Cairo. Racial tensions were always high in the community, but as the shipping and ferrying industries declined, jobs grew more scarce and the racial unrest intensified.

The Arctic Home in the Vedas: Part 24 - "Aryan Invasion of India"

Aryan Invasion of India: Myth or Reality?

Survive the Jive

DNA evidence has shed new light on the origins of the Indian people, the Hindu religion and the Sanskrit language. Pastoralists of the Andronovo culture from the Bronze age steppe invaded India from the North West and brought Indo-European languages to the Indian subcontinent. These pastoralists were ethnically white people, and they mixed with Indians to create the modern genetic diversity of India.

This theory has been developed over 200 years, and has often been attacked as a colonial fable or even as Nazi propaganda, but now genetic science has vindicated the Victorian scholars who said the roots of the Aryans lay in the Corded Ware culture of Europe.

The original Teutonic homeland was in northern west Asia and north of the Himalayas, then migrating into Europe in small waves which formed the widespread Celtic cultures. Later, a large scale migration occurred which overwhelmed Scandinavia and the German-speaking regions which we know today. They also migrated southward into ancient Persia and mixed with ancient Mediterraneans, which formed the dynamic Aryan civilization ("Ancient Persians").

These were "pure" Teutons so to speak, and I'm guessing that they mostly took after the Teutonic side since True-Mediterranean mixes tend to pass on Teutonic traits very well. As to whether or not they contributed to Sumeria, Babylon, and Mesopotamia.... I have no idea. The evidence seems to suggest that they did strongly influence Assyrians, later Persians, the Indus Valley, India, and other civilizations. Everything in this video--based on DNA evidence--fits my theory. There's still an unwillingness to acknowledge that the Teutonic people originated in the northern stretches of ancient western/central Asia.

'Don't Breathe' (2016)

I saw this several weeks ago, and it was a surprise to me, and original horror flick. It was about three friends who get trapped inside a blind war veteran's house while breaking into it, which pretty much says it all. They mistook a trained killing machine for a pushover. It gets pretty weird near the end. There's already a sequel in the works.

Moon Talk

Scientists are studying ways to utilize the Moon's resources to benefit activities on Earth as well as aid in space exploration. One proposal being considered is the mining of ice at the lunar poles. Ice would be converted to drinking water, oxygen, and hydrogen fuel and stored at orbiting stations, where spacecraft traveling to Mars or other areas could refuel and restock. This would save costs because fewer of these resources would need to be transported from Earth.

Wolfsbane

Aconitum

Aconitum, commonly known as aconite, monkshood, wolf's bane, leopard's bane, mousebane, women's bane, devil's helmet, queen of poisons, or blue rocket, is a genus of over 250 species of flowering plants belonging to the family Ranunculaceae. These herbaceous perennial plants are chiefly native to the mountainous parts of the Northern Hemisphere, growing in the moisture-retentive but well-draining soils of mountain meadows. Most species are extremely poisonous and must be dealt with very carefully.

************

''The Toxicity Surrounding Wolfsbane'

I keep thinking that Neopagans can make use of this wolfsbane, but I'm not certain if it's too toxic to handle. There are videos of people handling it however. The word "bane" means a cause of great distress or annoyance, hence the folkloric term "Wolfs bane" (wolfsbane) to ward off werewolves. Were our ancestors trying to repel wolfs, werewolves, or both? In other words, if we symbolically wore a pendant with a little glass veil of wolfsbane, are we warding off a wolf, other dangerous animals, a dangerous human aka "werewolf," the "werewolf" inside of us, or just "danger" in general? Certainly in the pantheon of real dangers today, the wolf would be near the bottom of the list. Since wolves were an ever-present danger to our ancestors, especially when alone in a remote area, it would seem logical that wolfsbane would represent "danger at large" for us today. This plant is tied to our ancestral folklore. Maybe it's time to bring it back for ritual...

The dive helmet’s US Navy WWII history is not known by the current owner. However, pre-1970 this dive helmet was used in the salvage of sunken WWII ships along the Taiwan coast. The dive helmet’s previous owner was working as a commercial diver in Taiwan from 1968 to 1970, constructing an oil terminal for the national oil company. His work involved underwater inspection of civil works in Keelung & Taichung. He worked with local diving and overseas construction companies, using scuba and surface supplied lightweight gear. He traded this gear for the dive helmet before leaving Taiwan in 1970. 39 years later the current owner purchased it from him.

Commentary on four unrelated films, for no particular reason

I make no mention of most films that I see, but I was recently reminded of several films that I just felt like commenting on. Some months ago I saw the film 'Changeling' (2008) with Angelina Jolie and John Malkovich, directed by Clint Eastwood. Based on a true story, it was about a mother of a kidnapped child in 1928 who was then put in the middle of system madness, and the only person of any power who was willing to help was a Los Angeles-based reverend. It was one of the few films in recent memory which depicts a Christian character fighting the mainstream system for justice in more-or-less just a general secular manner. Great cinematography, but with a dark mood.

As mentioned in "Part I," the film 'Jaws' is still so wildly popular. It's actually on TV again this week! People can't get enough of the ominous pursuit of the shark hunt, as well as the shark itself. There was really something about the scene set at twilight where they were in the cabin singing, telling jokes and stories. Of course after 1975, with the popularity of the film, the shark craze was on... or just general dramas set on the ocean. In 1977 the film 'The Deep' was released. Starring Jacqueline Bisset and Nick Nolte, it was a big box office success. Robert Shaw was also in it, adding something of a 'Jaws' flavor. For some reason, I have literally never seen where this movie has ever been on television! At least not in decades; very strange.

The third film I was thinking of was entitled 'Power' (1986). It was such a "would-be good movie" that didn't deliver. Although I have not seen it since that time, I don't recall it being the "train wreck" that some thought that it was ("a well-meaning, witless, insufferably smug movie that . . . suffers from the total lack of a comic imagination"). The film stars a slumping 1980s (post-'An Officer and a Gentleman') Richard Gere playing the role of a "a ruthless and highly successful media consultant" who shamelessly uses serious events to garner political support for this clients running for office. The film was a great idea, and reflected much truth. I think I would prefer a failed film, which tried to reflect some truth, rather than a successful film based on deceit.

'Southie' is a 1999 film starring Donnie Wahlberg as a young Irish guy who returns home to South Boston after a stay in New York City. From what I can recall, it was never really clear if he wanted to get involved in organized crime or was opposed to it. He came off as distant, somewhat prone to violence, even while trying go straight. I do recall that this film was continuously on the verge of "just getting good" and "really leading to something"..... then it just abruptly ENDED. It was a film which may actually have been good if it actually "happened!!" Two hours of a continuous opening scene to peak the audience's interest; no movie!

The time I accidentally tapped into a DOD website

When I first got on the internet, I did a search for "General John Shalikashvili," since I heard that he was a big promoter of "world government," combining our military with that of other countries with joint exercises, and training foreign troops on U.S. soil. After I clicked on one of the results, a very strange looking site came on the screen. It was black with a sidebar made up of various other colors in a type of dark metalic... all just pulsating! Then after a few seconds, a window with very large text popped up on my screen. It said something like "WARNING. YOU HAVE ENTERED A NATIONAL SECURITY WEBSITE. LEAVE IMMEDIATELY." It was actually sort've scary. I just clicked off the entire screen. In hindsight, I suppose that someone could have saved the link, then entered it at some video cafe, which were popular at the time. I could understand if the site was accidentally connected to search engines, but if it was a national security site, why didn't the DOD just use the "dark web" for it?

'James Ellroy's L.A.: City of Demons'

In 2011, the popular cable channel Investigation Discovery released a new series about the crime history of Los Angeles and Hollywood with the above title. It featured James Elroy, the popular author of so much of this history, including 'L.A. Confidential'... later made into a movie. Being that this true crime history is extremely interesting, it would seem to have been an excellent idea. The six-episode season only lasted two or three weeks before being pulled, which is very unusual.

"Ellroy's affected manner as presenter in this series is so irksome and distracting (he actually seems to be miming a stroke victim or some poor backward possibly drunk} slurred speech soul reading from cue cards ) as to ruin whatever content that may otherwise have contained some potential interest."
-- blademan-95603, IMDb user

He spoke slowly and over-pronounced his words, which was not even how he normally speaks. The program also featured his sidekick, a cartoon "crime dog," which probably didn't help the program any. It's still strange that they didn't just finish the last three or four episodes, as the basic content was interesting at least. Amazingly, somehow this forgotten and forgettable series found it's way to dvd, even despite the ID channel not seeing fit to air at least half the season. Ellroy really dropped the ball on this, since he was the logical person to present this sordid crime history.

No less than eleven of James Ellroy's books have been made into movies, and have done well, which makes his cable TV documentary disaster of 2011 even more remarkable. Hopefully his book 'My Dark Places' will never make it to screen--it is officially in development--as he shamelessly fantasizes about his mother who was murdered in a still unsolved case from 1958. I think that the idea of producing a good and complete series on the crime history of LA and "Tinseltown" would be a great idea.

'Herodias' by Paul Delaroche

Hērōdiás; c. 15 BC — after 39 AD) was a princess of the Herodian dynasty of Judaea during the time of the Roman Empire.

In the Gospels of Matthew and Mark, Herodias plays a major role in John the Baptist's execution, using her daughter's dance before Antipas and his party guests to ask for the head of the Baptist as a reward. According to the Gospel of Mark, Antipas did not want to put John the Baptist to death, for Antipas liked to listen to John the Baptist preach (Mark 6:20).

Herodias was literally a character from the Bible. It's interesting that, although she was born in Jerusalem in the Roman province of Judea, she died in Lyon, France. I suppose she was upwardly mobile, being from a royal family.

Beethoven's unknown "Immortal Beloved"

The actual transcript of the first of the three letters:

************

6 July, morning

My angel, my all, my own self — only a few words today, and that too with pencil (with yours) — only till tomorrow is my lodging definitely fixed. What abominable waste of time in such things — why this deep grief, where necessity speaks?

Can our love persist otherwise than through sacrifices, than by not demanding everything? Canst thou change it, that thou are not entirely mine, I not entirely thine? Oh, God, look into beautiful Nature and compose your mind to the inevitable. Love demands everything and is quite right, so it is for me with you, for you with me — only you forget so easily, that I must live for you and for me — were we quite united, you would notice this painful feeling as little as I should . . .

. . . We shall probably soon meet, even today I cannot communicate my remarks to you, which during these days I made about my life — were our hearts close together, I should probably not make any such remarks. My bosom is full, to tell you much — there are moments when I find that speech is nothing at all. Brighten up — remain my true and only treasure, my all, as I to you. The rest the gods must send, what must be for us and shall.

Your faithful

Ludwig

Apparently the term "Pagan" came from when the Christians had already pushed the "native believers" out of mainstream society... out of the cities. They were relegated to the rural countryside, hence the term pagan, which meant "country dweller, peasant." It was however, part of our history. It also reflects in a strong way, connecting with the land... with nature. Some people don't like the term. Given our circumstances, I don't see any problem with it as a catch-all term.

Tom Izzo's Michigan State reaches 8th Final Four... going for 2nd NCAA championship

'Where Does Tom Izzo Rank Among Best NCAA Tournament Coaches?'

John Ewing - ActionNetwork.com - April 2, 2019

Michigan State is headed back to the Final Four. This is the eighth time the program has reached the tournament’s final weekend under Tom Izzo since 1999, the most of any coach in the nation over that time period.

Few expected the Spartans to get to Minneapolis. According to ESPN’s Who Picked Whom, only 11.1% of brackets had Michigan State in the Final Four. This is not surprising since Izzo’s team needed to beat top overall seed and tournament favorite Duke in order to get out of the East Region.

In Sunday’s Elite Eight matchup, the Blue Devils were 2.5-point favorites over the Spartans and Mike Krzyzewski had a great track record against Izzo, winning 11 of the previous 12 meetings. But Michigan State was able to overcome the odds and history to upset Duke.

Perhaps the outcome shouldn’t have been surprising as Izzo has a knack for guiding his team to college basketball’s biggest stage. With all of his success, is Izzo the best at coaching in the NCAA Tournament?

One way to find out is to compare Izzo’s actual wins to the number of victories we’d expect based on the betting market. As an example, Michigan State was a +124 underdog to Duke in the Elite Eight. Once you account for the juice, the implied probability of the Spartans winning was 42.9%.

We can repeat this process for every game Izzo has coached in the NCAA Tournament since 2006 using betting data from Bet Labs.

Once we calculate the implied probabilities, we can sum them to get the expected numbers of wins. In Izzo’s case that number is 26.4 victories. Since 2006, the future Hall of Fame coach has gone 29-13 in the tournament, exceeding the betting market’s expectations by 2.6 wins.

.
