Administrative center of Val Camonica, Breno owes its fame mainly to the Castle, but there are many attractions of the locality: find out more
Breno is a small town in Val Camonica with about 58 square kilometers (14,332 acres) with just under 5,000 inhabitants. Administratively it belongs to the province of Brescia, in Lombardy, and is the administrative center of the Mountain Community of Valle Camonica, also hosting its headquarters.
The territory, located about 340 meters above sea level, is mainly mountainous. To the west it is bordered by the main furrow of the Val Camonica, while to the east it reaches the highest part also includes the Caffaro Valley, until it reaches the border with Trentino Alto Adige. The highest elevation of the municipality of Breno, however, is close to 2,850 meters (9,350 feet), with the Cornone di Blumone, one of the peaks of the Adamella mountain group.
Breno: what to see
In addition to the famous castle, which we will talk about in the next paragraph, there are many attractions present in the Municipality of Breno. First of all its main square, Piazza del Mercato, today dedicated to the memory of General Pietro Ronchi. It is an ancient square, probably born as a place of arms, and is suggestive above all for the splendid palaces that surround it, belonging mainly to the 6th and 7th centuries, such as the Casa Franceschetti.
A detail of the frescoes of the Church of Sant'Antonio di Breno
Very interesting, as far as sacred buildings are concerned, is the Church of Sant'Antonio, inside which every year the Art Prize of the city of Breno is held. It dates back to about 1300, and has a Gothic style with a single nave. Inside the presbytery, of considerable value is a fresco attributed to romanino, while the other ornaments date back mainly to the fifteenth century.
Another important example of sacred art is the Church of San Michele, of which today only the foundations dating back presumably to the Lombard era remain. Also noteworthy is the Parish church of San Salvatore, one of the most important Baroque buildings in the entire Val Camonica; dating back to 1600, stands out in particular for its bell tower, 65 meters high. There are numerous artistic masterpieces inside, considered a small museum.
One of the rooms of the Camuno Museum (or CaMus) in Breno
Also worth visiting is the Camuno Museum in Breno, born at the beginning of the twentieth century and today located on the second and third floors of the 'Palazzo della Cultura' in Breno, where the municipal library is also located. Divided into 10 rooms and a loggia, the museum houses finds and works of art from the prehistoric age up to the twentieth century of the Camunian community (from which derives the name of Val Camonica), with pictorial testimonies, coats of arms and portraits of Camunian families, artifacts concerning liturgical furniture and civil furniture and, precisely, finds dating back to the prehistoric age.
Finally, we recommend a visit to the splendid Villa Gheza, construction of the last century, in arabesque style and 'kitch' so much so that the people of the time, in a period of serious crisis for the area, became indignant and spoke of wasting money. Today, however, it remains a curious and important find of recent history.

Castle of Breno
A monument rich in history, the Castle of Breno is the real symbol of the main town of Val Camonica. More than just a castle, it is an intricate complex of buildings, built over the centuries for different purposes. Born under Frederick I Barbarossa (12th-13th centuries), it was transformed into a military stronghold with the Republic of Venice (15th-16th centuries): the current appearance is the result of these historical stratifications, enriched by the fact that it seems that this area was a settlement town already several millennia before the birth of Christ.
The visit to the Castle of Breno starts from the area of the tower, which allows us access to the courtyard, to whose left is located the medieval church, the oldest monument brought to light in Breno. There are many areas in which to observe the historical traces of the castle; we recommend, in particular, the stately two-storey house-tower, and a 1200's palace with a 20-meter tower accessible to visitors. Very interesting, then, the numerous remains of settlements of prehistoric communities of the Paleolithic, Neolithic and Copper Age.

Hotels in Breno
Breno is the administrative capital of Val Camonica. A place that has been established for several millennia, in recent decades it has become a tourist destination increasingly sought after by visitors, while also expanding its accommodation, however gaunt compared to demand. In this regard, we recommend two of these facilities in particular.
The first is the Hotel Ristorante La Villetta, a small 2-star structure excellently reviewed by users of the various travel sites. Free private parking, on-site restaurant with Lombard and national specialties, terrace overlooking the mountains and free wifi throughout the property, are just some of the services offered here. Very characteristic are the accommodations, which have flat screen TVs and private bathroom with bidets, bathrobes and courtesy sets, while in some of them you will also have a terrace or panoramic balcony, overlooking the beautiful Val Camonica. Prices more than competitive, highly recommended!
The lobby of the Hotel Giardino
About 250 meters (273 yards) from the Breno station is the Hotel Giardino, a beautiful 3-star structure with all the necessary comforts. Very nice rooms, which have clear walls and curtains and have a TV and a private bathroom with hairdryer and courtesy set, as well as free wifi, available throughout the hotel. Free parking, a rich breakfast buffet with sweet and savory foods (including local organic specialties) and on request menus for particular diets, in addition to an on-site restaurant-pizzeria are the services provided in the common areas. Great location, acceptable prices, courteous and attentive staff: vote, 10!
Breno Climate and Weather
The climate of Breno, given the great difference in height of the municipal territory--almost 2,500 meters! (about a mile and a half)--is very difficult to interpret and describe. Of course, what interests us is the climate of Breno and its vicinity, where you will find your accommodation: well, it is a particularly mild climate, with the average temperatures that only in January and February fall below zero. On the other hand, very cool and breezy summers, with the hottest month, July, which has an average of just 20 degrees.
Brennus, known as Brenno in Italian, is the name of two different Gaulish warlords; one who famously invaded Rome in the 4th century BCE, and another lessor-known Brennus who invaded the Balkans and Greece in the 3rd century BCE. I have heard that the city of Breno possibly may have got its name partly from the first Brennus who invaded Rome, whom was featured in a 1963 Italian film entitled 'Brennus, Enemy of Rome'. At the time of Brennus' invasion of Rome, Cisalpine Gaul would very much have had its allegiance with the Gaulish warlord from north of the Alps, not with Rome. The Camunni were one of the 45 Alpine tribes conquered by the Romans over 300 years later, so Brennus would have been a great hero to all Gaulish peoples. The name of the city of Breno came from the Camunian Bré; also Brenn in old German. However, I wonder if the latter could have been of Langobard, Cimbrian, Celto-German, or even Gaulish origin?

When ritual doesn't evoke the intended feeling
I don't mean intended result, as results come in their time. I'm referring to particularly powerful feelings that we may experience on just the right time, place, weather, etc, and when we try at a later point to recreate the same effect... it simply does not happen. This is partly why on those very special occasions, I don't want to leave because of the notion of... I may not get this back. My only answer is to not push it, and move onto other special rituals. Just make note of it, and when it feels right.. try again. I remember having a poor experience during a New Moon ritual one time, then at a later time I tried a different important rite one day after a New Moon with slight apprehension... and it went great! Just take note, move on, but never forget... and try again..

The breezy Anna Kendrick
You've probably seen her in the Hilton, Doritos, and Frito Lay ads; looking about 22, although she's 35. She's an actress and singer, and that was her real voice in the Frito Lay commercial below. She looks more beautiful in a moving image than in photos. I wasn't aware that she played the role of Jessica Stanley in the Twilight Saga series.
The olive branch is a symbol of peace or victory allegedly deriving from the customs of ancient Greece, particularly regarding supplication to both the gods and persons in power and is found in most cultures of the Mediterranean basin.
Currently, "cabin in the snow" is the featured Bing image on Windows 10 Spotlight. I couldn't find the particular image they used, but the above fits the concept well. Some of the images have that fully "snowed in" look to them. The light emanating from the cabin, which is just entrenched in the snow, woods, mountains, etc. A few have a more empowering look to them, upon a higher plateau, a large clearing, and/or with more of a view.
Since our early beginnings high in the Heber Valley of the Wasatch Mountains, Bear Creek Country Kitchens has delivered great hearty homestyle dishes that the whole family will enjoy. This is part of the text on one of their products, and I was curious about where these places are? Above is Mt. Nebo (11,929 ft.), the highest peak in the Wasatach Range in Utah. Although the company is now headquartered in New Jersey, apparently after being sold to larger corporations on more than one occasion, they were founded in central Utah on the western edge of the Rocky Mountains. The name "Bear Creek Country" is just a brand, and not applicable to the geography in that region. The Heber Valley and Heber City (below) are adjacent to the Wasatch Mountains.

Yule and Full Cold Moon
Yule is usually celebrated between December 20 through 23, but of course officially it's December 21; the Winter Solstice, the first day of winter. With traditions such as the Yule log, it could be celebrated for two weeks or so. The Full Cold Moon will occur on the evening of Tuesday, December 29 at 7:28 PST.
On Tuesday, December 22, the TV program 'Atlas of Cursed Places' on the National Geographic channel (276 on DirecTV) will be airing an episode entitled 'The Curse of the Bayou'.
[I didn't get this post off when I wanted to, but if you don't get this in time... they replay these, often prior to the next episode next week]
In 1915 in Louisiana, a local hoodoo practitioner and healer named, Aunt Julia, was enraged at the loggers cutting down her swamp so she invoked a curse on the people and the land. On the day of her death a deadly hurricane swept through the bayou destroying 3 towns and killing most of the people living in it. A century later, locals still blame all of the hardships in Louisiana on her curse.
Legend of Julia Brown
Some of the surviving locals began telling stories of a voodoo priestess named Julia Brown that predicted the event. According to local historians the town of Frenier had no doctors and Julia Brown likely served as the local healer. A few months before she died she began repeating the phrase "One day I'm gonna die, and I'm gonna take all of you with me."
Survivors said that a few weeks before the hurricane arrived she began sitting on her front porch rocking back and forth while playing her guitar and singing:
"When I die,
I take the whole town with me.
When I die,
I take the whole town."
-- Julia Brown
According to the legend on September 29, 1915 Julia Brown died and most of the population gathered to bury the voodoo priestess. During the funeral at around four o'clock the hurricane arrived and completely destroyed the town.
Sometimes an individual passes on who was very important to us, but whom which we may not have had a lot of contact with... or perhaps none at all. Usually this would be a person of some note, and time or circumstances may not have allowed us to meet up with them in person. Somehow we may feel incomplete when they pass, without true closure. There probably will be no service for us to attend. It may even feel disrespectful not to mark their life; to celebrate it. In addition, someone close to us who passes on--whether a relative or friend--and we attend their funeral rite.. we may still wish to give them a more personal pagan ritual. People can be complicated, and those who attend a funeral---lets face it--may remember that person in an entirely different way than we remember them... creating somewhat of an awkward energetic connection. That's also a good reason to personalize a rite for them.
This "Vehmic Death Rite" may be attended by either one or numerous individuals, and should take place after the official service to ensure closure. It may take place at any point in the day, but I think the night would seem more appropriate; I suppose it would depend on the person, and factoring in the weather. Each period of the day has it's own energetic quality: morning, early afternoon, late afternoon, twilight, night, and the early morning hours. I tend to believe that energetically it might feel better for a female to be received by "the Alfather" (Sun), and a male to be received by "the Almother" (Moon). A smaller group would seem to be more appropriate as well. In no way am I suggesting that the specifics of this particular ritual are based on any ancient tradition. Also, this is not something I believe should be cemented in stone. In other words, we should look at it, add to it, personalize it, tailoring it to that person, etc. I attended/administered to what I call a "Vehmic Death Rite" just last night. "Vehmic" refers to the the five elements of nature, and applied to the concept of the recycling of life... reincarnation. Our spiritual essence belongs to a "soul group," which I believe are layered into a family group and outer circles. A family soul group is a group which we connect with almost every lifetime, while the outer circles less so. At Source, we all connect together just like a family reunion, because some of our essence always remains at Source.
I compare reincarnation and family soul groups like a family at a high plateau, getting ready to ride down large separate water slides. They agree to meet after they're all completed. The water slide itself is a metaphor for a life cycle. During the ride they will forget all about Source and their soul group, and part of the plan is to experience everything from love to suffering... leading to spiritual growth. They may embrace in some form or fashion before they go, knowing that parts of it will be painful and they will not remember that it is all planned to be this way to achieve spiritual assention. Even a long life cycle may only be lets just say an hour to those at source, just to use a random short time period. Basically time and space doesn't exist at Source. After it's all over, the family soul group reconnects, and finally realizes that it was just "an experience"; it's not a permanent thing. That "death" was actually never something to greatly fear or feel great sorrow over in the bigger picture. If we are not close to, or even dislike someone in our family soul group, then it was most likely pre-planned... which they finally realize after it's over. Not everything is pre-planned. We must have some degree of free will. In this world, the future is not inevitable. It mostly exists for us to have an experience, not for any global elite to harvest us, which is why I think they will not win in the end... because it wasn't intended for them to "win." It wasn't meant to be. This is our world to experience, but not to destroy.
I think the film 'Heaven Can Wait'--both the original and the remake--depict this perfectly! They're is great anguish experienced, but all is well at the end, and every soul realizes that it was all part of a plan. I think the remake actually expressed this a little better than the original, as it left the "Max Corkle" character hanging at the end. However, had this story actually occurred, Corkle would have been part of the protagonists outer layer soul group, and all would be finally fully understood "at the end of the water slide ride." Family soul groups may reincarnate in different family roles, even different genders. We do, however, have a definite soul-gender which we experience most often in life cycles. Homosexuality is not related to soul-genders; it's something different.
Last night I was able to get away for the ritual at about 9:50 PM. We parked and gathered at a nearby point on the trail. The night was beautiful, one day after a New Moon, and I was hopeful of perhaps one of the Leonid meteors to show itself. Then we walked to the intended secluded spot. Just prior to arriving there, we heard the sound of a far off ambulance. Upon hearing this, the coyotes in the canyon started to howl, enhancing the feeling of raw nature. The Moon was not visible, but sometimes you can't have every detail right. I would take a clear dark night over any other condition. That night was the right night. Sometimes I don't quite feel it for a Sunday night, but this was the exception. It felt right. When we finally got to the secluded clearing, a printed black and white photograph of him and a triskelion next to the image (on one piece of paper) was placed against a low hanging piece of vegetation, along with a flower we had picked on the trek there. The base of a tree is always a good spot for the altar, but we had walked out of the groves of trees. This clearing was perfect because of the view of the canyon, mountains, and sky. We then placed our hoods over our heads.
A candle was placed in front of the image and flower, then it was lit, illuminating it in the darkness. There was no wind, no noise of crickets, only the lovely stillness. Everyone made a simple statement about him; something they remembered. The mountains looked so beautiful in the distance, in the direction facing the little altar, black against the dark blue sky. Sometimes I feel slightly depressed on a New Moon, but I felt good energy this one day after the New Moon. So there was some Moon present, even if we couldn't see it; the Almother to symbolically receive her son. At this point, I no longer felt deep sadness for him. The triskelion is thought of by many as a symbol of reincarnation. I recall at one point thinking that he must be able to see us. I then read what I call the 'Incantation for the Foreboding', used as a spell-prayer for different meanings. The text of which comes from the 'Book of the Holy Strega' by Raven Grimassi. Aradia's words:
'Incantation for the Forboding'
Now when Aradia had been taught, taught to work all witchcraft, how to destroy the evil race of oppressors, she imparted it to her pupils and said to them:
"When I have departed from this world, Whenever you have need of anything, Once in the month when the moon is full, You shall assemble in some deserted place, Or in a forest all together join and adore the potent spirit of my mother, Diana, and whoever desires to learn all witchcraft but has not won its deepest secrets, my mother will teach all things as yet unknown. And you shall all be free from bondage, And so you shall be free in everything."
I take "evil race of oppressors" as meaning dark, evil, and destructive energies which manifest in human beings (every "ism" destroys someone). I then took the piece of paper which contained these words, and lightly crumpled it up into a ball, then placed it directly into the flame. As it ignited, I placed it in front of the candle. I then took the altar image which was on a smaller cut of paper and folded it in two, and placed it above the burning circle. As it all burned, such as like a Viking funeral rite, I stated: "Birth... Life... Death and to a New Arising. He is now the Morning and the Spring." I then ad libbed while the flame was starting to diminish: "Goodbye Tom. Til me meet again; this side or the other." As we stood there and soaked in the moment, in the direction of the mountains, a small Leonid meteor raced by. It was relatively close, at least appearing to be below the elevation of the mountain peaks. Had that occurred on another night other than a Leonid meteor shower, I would certainly have thought it was a message. It still could have been, and it at least served as a perfect ending to the ritual.
Another way to say it is the following:
Deo Ceruninco... and to the Almother.
Embrace our kindred into the next plane.
Birth... Life... Death and to a New Arising.
He is now the morning and the spring.
The Latin "Deo Cerunico" meant "To the God Cernunnos" in Romanized Gaul. It places the Alfather over the Almother, which doesn't quite feel right. The Father can represent the head of the family, while the Mother can represent the head of the household. Also, the Father may represent Law, while the Mother may represent Justice. Both of those concepts generally originate from the ancient traditions, and were melded into Christian Europe, allowing for at least some semblance of authority to both. Perhaps for a male, it could begin with "To Our Almother," while for a female it could begin with "To Our Alfather."
Then I poured water over the ashes, washing them into the soil; recycling them into the Earth like that of the body, while the soul is recycled into the Sky, into the great Ur, at Source, returning when it's ready. All of the Vehmic elements are now accounted for: Earth, Air, Fire, Water, and Spirit. Closure and completion, until we meet again, this side or the other.
The mid-November Leonid Meteor Shower can be one of the most productive meteor showers of the year. Your host for this video saw over a hundred meteors in an hour in a city sky in 2001! It was an exceptional year. This year there is no forecast for greatness, but one never knows. At least the Moon will be out of the way, and its light will not interfere.

2020’s Leonid meteor shower is expected to peak on the morning of November 17, during the dark hours before dawn. Charts, tips and details here.
November’s wonderful Leonid meteor shower is active from about November 6 to 30 each year. The peak is expected in 2020 on the morning of November 17. The shower happens as our world crosses the orbital path of Comet 55P/Tempel-Tuttle. Like many comets, Tempel-Tuttle litters its orbit with bits of debris. It’s when this cometary debris enters Earth’s atmosphere and vaporizes that we see the Leonid meteor shower. In 2020, the moon – in a waxing crescent phase – will set in early evening, to provide moon-free skies after midnight when the most meteors typically fall. In a dark sky, with no moon, you can see up to 10 to 15 meteors per hour at the peak.
I just watched the original 'Creature from the Black Lagoon' today. It's curious that Dracula, the Frankenstein monster, the wolfman, and the mummy, have all been remade numerous times over the years; yet gill-man has not made a return to the big screen since the second sequel in 1956.
I have an assortment of glass bottles and jars that I’ve been saving and buying up at yard sales over the past month so I can store my homemade limoncello. Some of the jars I’ve saved had labels affixed with glue that came right off; some had glue that was very stubborn.
Unsuccessful Methods of Removing Labels
I had one particular glass salad dressing bottle that would not give up its glue. I let it soak in hot water for a long time then rubbed with steel wool. Nothing. I tried an old bottle of Goo Gone that was ineffective. I even tried nail polish remover. That didn’t work either. Everything just smeared the glue around.
I wasn’t so happy with the chemical alternatives I was trying (and they weren’t even working), so I decided to do some research to find a natural, effective method. (Yes, I should have done that first. Sometimes, I try to take the easy way out.)
Creek Line House Method
After reading several suggestions on various blogs and discussion boards, I decided to try a method I found on The Creek Line House blog that called for baking soda, cooking oil, and an abrasive scrubbie. It worked!
The method is so simple.
1) Mix together equal amounts of baking soda and cooking oil – for one small jar, a tablespoon of each will be plenty. 2) Rub the mixture all over the sticky parts of the glass jar. 3) Leave it on for 30 minutes. 4) Rub with an abrasive scrubbie (I used steel wool) 5) Wash really well with soap and water
My bottle came out glue-free and ready to use to store limoncello. I’m not sure why this method worked, but I don’t need to know why. I just need to know it’s a non-chemical way to remove label glue from glass bottles. Next time I have a sticker stuck to the glass on a picture frame, I’ll try this method. That price tag sticker glue is always difficult to remove.
After getting my bottles ready, I went to bottle my limoncello and realized I didn’t have a funnel. I ran to the local grocery store, but the story didn't have one for sale. My plan is to hunt one down today and bottle the batch and have photos and instructions for that tomorrow on the blog.
Do you have a natural method for removing stubborn label glue from glass bottles?
************
Obviously people often use up the contents of a jar, but would like to retain it. Goo-Gone is toxic, and not something one would really want to then put in a dishwasher after using, much less using to store food items. I've tried the above method, and it works. I only used a mildly abrasive scrubber. All it took was just a little work, and the glue was completely gone.

The 'Taken" Trilogy
I'm usually not into films that feature the "falsely accused," "self-righteous," "negligently besieged" "innocent man" themes. However, the 'Taken' films work for me. The violence, the anguish, the riveting fear, the quintessential action, and finally bringing the scumbags to their knees just kind've hits the spot here. It's sort've where typical Steven Seagal and Harrison Ford characters meet.

Bats: The ultimate "night creature" symbol
Whatever created bats seemed to go out've their way to design a creature to symbolize "the dark side." It flies, but not during the daytime; it has wings, but doesn't sour and doesn't have feathers. While we might feel a certain comfort when we see birds in the sunshine, their feathered tuxedos, and hear them chirping; we might be more likely to squirm when we see bats at dusk, their wings flapping along the treeline, and their dark cloaks black against the twilight sky. Actually, while they are indeed designed for night stealth, they're harmless to humans and pets 99.99% of the time. Along with birds and bees, they're one of the most important creatures on the planet. Over 300 species of fruit depend on bats for pollination, and that's just for starters. If all of the bats in the world perished tomorrow, life on earth would start to die off.
Thanks to the Yolo Basin Foundation for their terrific tour to the site where a quarter of a million bats fly out from underneath the Yolo Causeway west of Sacramento each night.

One of the most mysterious and widely speculated songs in rock history, “Hotel California” is best described in the words of its creators. As Don Henley explained in the Daily Mail dated 9/11/2007:
"Some of the wilder interpretations of that song have been amazing. It was really about the excesses of American culture and certain girls we knew. But it was also about the uneasy balance between art and commerce."
Though the annotations to the left do their best to decipher Henley & co.’s words, it’s important to keep in mind a quote (and classic malapropism) from Eagles member Glenn Frey: “Vaguery is the primary tool of songwriters.”
[Verse 1: Don Henley] On a dark desert highway Cool wind in my hair Warm smell of colitas Rising up through the air Up ahead in the distance I saw a shimmering light My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim I had to stop for the night There she stood in the doorway I heard the mission bell And I was thinking to myself "This could be Heaven or this could be Hell" Then she lit up a candle And she showed me the way There were voices down the corridor I thought I heard them say

"The lyric is as follows – Her mind is Tiffany- twisted, She’s got the Mercedes-bendz, she got a lotta pretty pretty boys she calls friends! It is a reference to how the Eagles saw the Southern California ….Hollywood scence at the time when the song was recorded. All these girls showing up in Hollywood seeking to be discovered. Impressed with the fabulous weath and celebrity and wanting a piece of it for themselves. Essentially the Marilyn Monroe story. Her mind is Tiffany twisted ( she is perverted and corrupted by the fabulous weath…Tiffany’s in New York Ciry.) She got the Mercedes Bendz… ( she will bend over and do whatever is required to get her “ big shot at fame” She got a lot of pretty pretty boys she calls friends! The so called “friends” are not really her friends they are the men who control the Hollywood celebrity machine….Directors, Producers and so forth and she will sleep with whomever she has to get a shot at the big time fame machine and become a big star!" -- rgee3

"Its definitely talking about the pressures of being in this business. Its one of the greatest ballads of its time because it is open to interpretation and I believe the original authors did this for a reason. It is really deep. Actually one of my favorites and definitely a classic." -- rhowle7615
"I think it’s a near death experience of drug overdose. Checking out is a reference to death. Masters chambers and feast is the last supper reference to final fix." -- Ottawamusic❤️Er
I don't know that I could really ever say that I actually prefer the night to the day. It's a fun concept. The darkness of night has it's qualities. I can say that I have been at special places in the darkness, amid the heat and stillness, mountains and trees abound, with a light sound of crickets and occasional hoot of an owl, under a bright moon, and I didn't want to leave because "when would it ever be this perfect again?"
My rural dream bedroom. Here's a more modern looking version of the same top floor bedroom concept: Farmhouse Bedroom. The above design and style, with the added windows and balcony of the latter would be the ideal.
[Corvin Castle in Rumania: Featured on Windows 10 Spotlight this month]
Happy Halloween, boos and ghouls! We hope our vampire isn't too scary on this day designed for spooky delights. The fortress in our image is Romania's Corvin Castle—not far from Transylvania, a real historical region in Romania. In Bram Stoker's novel 'Dracula,' the ghoulish Count Dracula lives in a remote Transylvanian castle, cementing the place in popular imagination as the home of vampires.
Be careful out there tonight as you go haunting for treats. And if you want to protect yourself against potential vampire attacks, incorporate a garland of garlic in your costume. Or maybe go out while the sun is still up. According to vampire folklore, these blood-sucking creatures of the night can't stand garlic and will likely burst into flames if exposed to sunlight. Or you can just keep reminding yourself: There's no such thing as vampires…

Most men have a part of them which would like to live with more danger and excitement, like a soldier of fortune, or like the stories of Conan the Barbarian. This was a wealthy guy who traveled to the third world and became something of a warlord. He had some guts! If you really think about it, sometimes in life puny people get to order us around because they have a title, a piece of paper, or state ordained authority. I think most males fantasize about some type of personal siege. Maybe this dude was just plain bored, and just went for it?

Theme Song to The Partridge Family (Come on Get Happy)
A few evenings ago on either TCM or AMC, I watched 'The Curse of Frankenstein', a Hammer film from the UK (1957). I had seen it before, but I wasn't sure as quite a few of those films sort've conflate in my mind. It was followed by two sequels, but I couldn't stay up all night. It featured as the femme fatal, a young comely Hazel Court. Somehow, someway, these films just gotta get the monster and the girl together!
This is the story of a magical forest fairy who is trapped in the real world.
She writes a message in a bottle and sends it off hoping it will reach help.
Basically this is the story of my life. I feel I am trapped in reality. When all I want is to live in the forest, in a magical world where unicorns exist, the sun always shines and I can talk to animals.
