Vampira (Maila Nurmi) slaughters the idea that Goths can’t, and don’t, go to the beach.  Furthermore, she looks damn good doing it!  Never has someone made a little black bathing suit look so fierce as this horror goddess!

Nurmi began from humble beginnings from Massachusetts with big dreams.  She started as a coat check girl, but quickly moved on to her dreams.  The black clad beauty took on the modeling world by storm with her own unique style.

With a nineteen inch waist and love for the Goth aesthetic, Nurmi immediately captured the attention of many.  Most importantly she caught the eye of Hunt Stromberg, Jr., the man responsible for creating, Vampira.  From the public eye to the celebrities of Hollywood, heads were turning in Vampira’s direction.

Morticia, Vampira and Elvira – The unholy trinity of women of darkness. These three femme fatales have captured the wicked imaginations and nefarious fantasies of many generations. And like links in the chains they might use to restrain their victims, the stories of all three of these lecherous ladies are linked.

Check out my other Halloween videos on my channel.

I do not own rights to any of the music or videos. This is a fan tribute.

Vampira the icon.... returns..

There is a lot of Vampira memorabilia and some interesting artwork online. I was never really familiar with her, as I never saw her program in syndication when I was a boy. It only aired for one season, although fifty episodes. Actually it was a program which featured horror films, with some variety with Maila Nurmi as the host, so it couldn't really have been rebroadcast. I always thought the comic book was the origin of the "Vampira" image, as I recall a more modern 'Vampira' comic series. Actually the original comic was from 1952, and what I was thinking of was the modern 'Vampirella' comic book character.

The Queen of Mainstream vs. The Queen of Underground

Julie Strain filled the role of an underground "Vampira" type personality between 1990 and 2009, where she stared in 135 films. I recall her being asked one time when her popularity was just taking hold, and Sharon Stone was popular in the mainstream, about what she thought of Sharon Stone. The 6'1" Strain said "I would kick her ass!"

In my Morticia, Vampira and Elvira video – I document how these three femme fatales are connected. The most common comments I get ask why I didn't include Lily Munster, the morbid matriarch of the Munster family. Here is the history of Lily Munster and her portrayer, Yvonne De Carlo and why I think Lily Munster stands in a class of her own.
