Based on the books series written by David Paulides Missing 411 chronicles the unsolved yet eerily similar disappearances of five children in the wilds of North America accross multiple decades. A real-life horror story for those involved, the film examines each case from multiple perspectives in an attempt to shed light on the unsettling topic. Les Stroud of Survivorman and Obama-appointed, former Secretary of the Interior, Ken Salazar are both interviewed for their insight into the topic, as are the families who have fallen victim to tragedy.

All-Hallows Eve 2019 - Part 3
.
The Night of the Ancestors
The evening of October 31 is when the veil between our world and the world of the great Ur is at it's thinnest. The time when we can best connect with our ancestors. Not just to connect--we may be able to do that at other various points during the year--but to truly share feelings and love. Time and space may become one. Think of them, imagine the different time and place when they lived, especially at night. Concentrate on the landscape, the mountains, hills, trees, the moon, the water, whatever natural feature which is around you.
Think of one favorite ancestor, even one whom you have heard about but have never met. Don't be afraid to say their name out loud. Look upwards into the clear dark sky, into the stars, dance or just spin in the circle amid the beautiful darkness. Venerate them. There is no disconnect between folk deities such as Wotan, Hekate, Cernunnos, Freya, or Aradia, and your own favorite ancestors. Because you, your family, your clan, and your ancestors are all part of the same cycle of life... the same bloodline.... the same history.... separated only be time and space....

"Comedy Horror"
Generally I have never been drawn much to the genre of comedy-horror, and then I thought about two films which have been aired this month, and I thought twice about it. One was the original 'Fright Night' from 1985, which appears to me to be the apex of comedy-horror; because it was definitely "comedy," and it was definitely "horror." Starring Roddy McDowell and Chris Sarandon. There was one sequel.
The other was 'Creepshow' from 1982, an anthology of creepy stories staring numerous well-known actors and directed by George A. Romero. The film gave the impression of being inspired by a comic book series. Actually it wasn't, but there was a special comic book later issued based on the film. During the 70s there was a large number of "mystery comics," which were deep and eerie.... often based on folklore or purportedly real experiences. Back then they were all in color, and cheap. There were two sequels, as well as the HBO series of the same name.
I get 'Creepshow' mixed up with 1983's 'Twilight Zone: The Movie', a very similar horror anthology film... almost comedy-horror.

It's spine-tingling horror in a whole new dimension as Friday the 13th Part 3-3D: Deluxe Edition comes to DVD! A carefree summer becomes a deadly nightmare for another group of naïve counselors who choose to ignore Camp Crystal Lake's gruesome legacy. They find themselves in a bloody game of cat-and-mouse with the maniacal Jason who stalks their every move...and ruthlessly kills them off one-by-one.

For some reason, "Part III" from 1982 stands out in the long Friday the 13th series. There was just something catchy about the characters. All of the guys were quite annoying, which was probably by design! One could be amused by all of the gruesome and humiliating manners in which they were knocked off... if you're into that kind've thing. The gals were all attractive, so you have all that along with a cabin in the remote woods, Jason in the shadows... you know the story.
23 year old Dana Kimmell seemed to be the featured actress. She did a lot of work throughout the 80s, and disappeared after that, probably by choice. Interestingly there's a YouTube video of her from 2012 at some horror film symposium, and she seems to have hardly aged after thirty years.

Mysteries of John Keel
Tomorrow, Saturday evening/Sunday morning, the first guest on Coast to Coast AM will be Brent Raynes who will be discussing the late John Keel. Keel was one of the great explorers and minds in the history of paranormal research.
Mysteries of John Keel / Quantum Remote Viewing
Date: Saturday - October 26, 2019
Host: Richard Syrett
Guests: Brent Raynes, Douglas James Cottrell
The Mothman Prophecies movie was loosely based on John Keel’s book of the same title. Brent Raynes established a personal relationship with Keel in 1969. He joins Richard Syrett (Twitter) to discuss how shortly after the movie’s release, both men discussed its portrayal of Keel’s book, along with new mysterious occurrences surrounding the legend of the Mothman, and the true and incredible events Keel investigated.
Followed by Douglas James Cottrell, best known as a trance clairvoyant, a spiritual healer, and teacher who demonstrates many abilities studied by Noetic Sciences (the study of consciousness), including telepathy, energy healing, and remote viewing. He'll participate with Richard Syrett in a second live on-air exercise he is calling a Quantum Remote Viewing Experiment which will show that anyone can learn to remote view.

'Wolf rips open tent and tries to drag US camper Matthew Rispoli away in rare attack at Canada’s Banff National Park'
Associated Press - South China Morning Post - October 16, 2019
* Parks Canada says animal repeatedly bit victim before neighbouring camper kicked it and drove it away
* Rispoli was hospitalised with arm and hand injuries
A wolf attacked campers at Banff National Park and tried to drag an American tourist away before being driven off, the agency overseeing Canada’s national parks says.
Parks Canada said this week that the very rare attack by an older wolf in poor health occurred August 9 at the Ramparts Creek campground north of Lake Louise in Alberta.
Jon Stuart-Smith, a wildlife specialist for the agency, said the New Jersey man was camping with his wife and two children and heard noises around midnight. Thinking it could be a bear, the man tried to scare the wolf off by making noise, but the animal bit him through the tent.

'45 Years Since Ted Bundy Abductions At Lake Sammamish State Park'
45 years ago, Ted Bundy was in the midst of a killing spree in Washington that culminated in broad-daylight abductions in Issaquah.
Neal McNamara - Patch.com - July 13, 2019
ISSAQUAH, WA — If you pass by Lake Sammamish State Park on Sunday, take a moment to remember Janice Ott and Denise Naslund.
Sunday will mark 45 years since they were abducted in broad daylight at the park on a busy Sunday afternoon by one of America's most notorious serial killers.
Ted Bundy, his arm in a sling, approached Ott, 23, around noon as she was sitting on a blanket near the beach. After a brief chat, he convinced Ott to come help him move a sailboat. People nearby remember hearing him say his name, "Ted." Naslund, 19, met Bundy when she left her group of friends to use the restroom. He lured her away with the same story about needing help with a sailboat.

Beast of Bray Road
The Beast of Bray Road (or the Bray Road Beast) is a creature reported in 1936 on a rural road outside of Elkhorn, Wisconsin. The same label has been applied to other sightings from southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois.
Bray Road is a quiet rural road near the community of Elkhorn. The rash of claimed sightings in the late 1980s and early 1990s prompted a local newspaper, the Walworth County Week, to assign reporter Linda Godfrey to cover the story. Godfrey was initially skeptical, but later became convinced of the sincerity of the witnesses. Her series of articles later became a book titled The Beast of Bray Road: Tailing Wisconsin's Werewolf.

“beware the beast of bray road”
The Beast of Bray Road is a cryptozoological, creature first reported in the 1949 on a rural road outside of Elkhorn, Wisconsin. The same label has been applied well beyond the initial location, to any unknown creature from southern Wisconsin or northern Illinois and all the way to Vancouver Island, Canada, that is described as having similar characteristics to those reported in the initial set of sightings. Bray Road itself is a quiet country road near the community of Elkhorn. The rash of claimed sightings in the late 1980s and early 1990s prompted a local newspaper, the Walworth County Week, to assign reporter Linda Godfrey to cover the story. Godfrey initially was skeptical, but later became convinced of the sincerity of the witnesses.
Her series of articles later became a book titled The Beast of Bray Road: Trailing Wisconsin's Werewolf. The Beast of Bray Road is described by purported witnesses in several ways: as a bear-like creature, as a hairy biped resembling Bigfoot, and as an unusually large (2–4 feet tall on all fours, 7 feet tall standing up) intelligent wolf-like creature apt to walk on its hind legs and weighing 400-700 pounds. It also said that its fur is a brown gray color resembling a dog or bear. Although the Beast of Bray Road has not been seen to transform from a human into a wolf in any of the sightings, it has been labeled a werewolf in newspaper articles..

'The Beast of Bray Road: Tailing Wisconsin’s Werewolf' Paperback (October 2, 2015)
The original account of the 1992 bombshell news story that revealed reports of werewolf-like creatures in southeast Wisconsin.
The small town of Elkhorn, Wisconsin made national headlines in the early 1990s with reports of a strange, hairy, wolf-headed creature that walked upright and seemed unafraid of man as it stalked the cornfields just outside of town. Journalist Linda Godfrey dubbed the canid sensation “The Beast of Bray Road” after the location of the first reported sightings. Two decades and hundreds of nationwide sightings of similar creatures later, no one has ever proven whether the beast is a flesh-and-blood canine or will-o-the-wisp, demon dog, or a magical werewolf. But the author provides plenty to chew on, with sightings of related creatures, Native American connections, historic lore and a keen-eyed look at possible explanations. Once fully digested, this book just may induce readers everywhere to keep a more careful eye out as they travel lonely country roads after dark.

Another year of Evangelical Christian attacks on Halloween
Sometimes I tune into various TV channels such as SonLife Broadcasting, the 700 Club, or Link TV to see their take on issues. This morning on SonLife Broadcasting, ironically a veiled reference to Christianity's "pagan" origin of Sun worship, they were discussing the evils of Halloween, Witches, Druids, Satanism, demons, etc. They went so far as railing on Native American traditions, calling them "Satanic," and actually criticizing those among them to hold onto their ancestral folkways as "refusing to accept Jesus into their lives." That would be like informing those in the discussion as those who are refusing to accept the Prophet Muhammad into their own lives!
Maybe they should discuss the evil and sleazy lifestyle that their founder Jimmy Swaggart lived thoughout the 70s and 80s; how he chased around prostitutes before he was finally caught. The prostitute whose testimony finally brought him down, Debra Murphree, said that Swaggart asked her about the "availability" of her 9-year old daughter. Here his little girl was in a life challenging situation at the time, only to be lusted upon by multi-millionaire Jimmy Swaggart. I strongly believe in redemption, but c'mon... for pedophilia? Why should he make hundreds of millions of dollars as a "holy man" after that? A different prostitute, whom Swaggart had been visiting, committed suicide around that time... or was she "suicided?"
Again, in general, I strongly believe in the concept of redemption. Also, people can get away from the things they love and believe in---far, far away in some instances---and they should be able to gather themselves and get back to those things. Lastly, this is just one possible interpretation of how some Evangelicals conduct themselves; there are even a few Christians, Pagans, or even Satanists who essentially have the same view of life! Deep rooted, non-literal-absolutist beliefs, and mindful of the idea that we should all "be good."

Unidentified creatures in the darkness
With such pleasant weather lately where I live, I have sat out late on a deck which I have access to. As mentioned on a recent post, this deck is about the size of a small bedroom... and it symbolizes for me a bedroom of nature. It's actually located outside of a tall-fenced yard, and is on the edge of a remote area on the slope of a mountain. During this October Indian Summer, it has been particularly dark out there. If there are clouds, then the surrounding urban lights will light up those clouds, which then lights up the ground. However, when the sky is clear, and especially when there is no visible moon, then it's very dark. I have been going out there with a lounge chair to listen to the Coast To Coast AM radio program in the warm darkness. The program airs at it's normal time (10 PM to 2 AM) on Saturdays and Sundays; but it's broadcast late from Monday to Friday (1 AM to 5 AM).
Being out there in that warm darkness, amid nature, is special. There is what I call an "island of stars" visible amid the surrounding lights of the urban landscape. Occasionally a raccoon will pass by under the deck, and I might shine my flashlight on it. A few coyote howls can be heard occasionally from a nearby canyon. Every now and then a large shadowed silhouette of an owl can be spotted on a nearby tree limb; visible because it's in line with the distant city lights. I treasure these small blessings. However, on that evening two weeks ago, I heard a sudden snarl in a nearby grove of trees, followed by a guttural growl! It was as though some animal had been startled. After a few minutes, I just assumed that it might have been a coyote interaction, and forgot about it.
Then it occurred again! I noticed that it didn't sound like a coyote. It was surprisingly deep and guttural. I had actually heard that same vocalization from some trees and heavy brush when I was hiking in the hills several months ago at twilight. It really didn't seem to fit the sounds made by any of the animals around here. I tried to use my flashlight to spot whatever it might have been in the blackness of that tree grove. Nothing, but stone silence. Soon I forgot about it and continued to listen to the program. I reasoned that this is part of what made this spot special. The deck allows me to be close to nature, but still with the accommodations of "civilization" so to speak. Truly the best of both worlds. Similar to what it's like to really live in a rural area or in a cabin in the woods.
.
The next morning I went out there and discovered a pile of bloody guts just below the deck. These were not the guts and entrails of a rodent, but of a larger animal! There were no bones or fur, so it was not possible to identify it. It was eerie to think of that creature's snarl and growl in light of this finding! Mainly not even knowing what it is! It was simply "a beast." Maybe it was a coyote. Anyone who has done any significant amount of hiking, or even anyone who has spent any time in a cabin has heard some unidentified creatures from time to time. Years ago it happened to me on two occasions. Once it was a type of howl-cry, which I heard numerous times during a twilight hike. It sounded like some sort've hoofed animal in pain.
The other time it was a deep low groan emanating from some thick brush in broad daylight while I was hiking along a trail. Both of those experiences were strange, but not as eerie as the one two weeks ago. I told a couple of people here about what happened, and it almost feels like a mild form of folklore. I suspect that it probably was a coyote, and maybe it killed a small animal like an opossum out there. Also somewhat eerie was that the guts were devoured the next night, as I discovered the following day when I went out there to clean it up. The killing was a reminder of the harsh and beautiful W-I-L-D that is present, so close... just outside of a fence!
During this past summer, I've heard what had to be some type of birds at night out there on the deck. Apparently some birds do sound off at night however. Sometimes owls make screeching sounds in the dark, different than the common hooting. This sounded different. I remember years ago of a story of a "monster" somewhere in North Carolina which was killing and eating neighborhood dogs and cats. Finally a motion camera snapped a picture of it. It turned out to be a Florida panther which had migrated north.

'Video: Bigfoot Howl Recorded in Canada?'
By Tim Binnall - CoastToCoastAM.com - October 23, 2019
A chilling piece of footage from Canada features what appears to be a series of haunting howls coming from a forest and some suspect that the eerie screams could have come from a Bigfoot. The strange scene reportedly occurred earlier this month as Stargell Blackstar was grouse hunting with his wife and grandson at a rather remote wooded location around 30 miles Sioux Lookout, Ontario.

Small eco-crimes
Back in the spring, the city here drained a natural watering hole formed by runoff from the nearby hills. It takes particular geological factors to be in place as well. For example, there must be a particular sediment that develops over time to form a permanent natural pond or what I call a watering hole for a smaller one. This is something very different than stagnant water, as pond water is alive with organisms that feed and filter out the water. When they drained it, they eliminated one of the few sources of summer water for small animals, and completely destroy an environment for frogs and other amphibian creatures. We go six month without rain here, and these creatures rely on these sources. Frustrating.
Where I live we unfortunately have a serial pyromaniac who has likely been the culprit of many destructive fires going back decades. He struck again yesterday; probably exited by all of the fire talk in California. What is also bad is that if someone likes to occasionally hike by themselves, even in the evening, there's an eerie aura of paranoia as fire and police authorities are looking for someone alone in the area. Hiking is the one outdoor activity that anyone can engage in for free. About five years ago, I was hiking in a nearby location and ran into a fire that had just been set. It had nowhere to go as it was set in a particular strip of dry grass, and set by probably that same individual. Very frustrating.

TV roundup
Of course, October is the month for horror films, and I like to catch both old and new ones. TCM has quite a few of the oldies, and many which are not exactly classics.. but different.
As far as horror films, I'm more into paranormal thrillers than slasher flicks. However, I've been watching 'AHS: 1984', airing Wednesdays on FX. It's a type of "imaginative reality" based on the year 1984. Also interesting is the music, all from that time period. 1984 was the last year that there was truly dozens and dozens of great and very iconic songs from just a single year.
Aired Sundays (staring last Sunday) on Travel channel is a reality-drama-documentary entitled 'Witches of Salem'. Apparently it follows the true events from Salem as they really occurred, which is interesting as filmmakers virtually always alter history for the sake of their films.
I watched 'Wrong Turn 2' on Syfy a couple of nights ago, and ended up taping the rest of the series (parts 3, 4, 5, and 6) which I had never seen. A pretty weird and scary film franchise, probably coming up just short of slander on real people who live in the back woods of West Virginia! There's a greater ratio of bizarre people and dangerous cults in big cities.
Travel channel has become the channel for paranormal and mystery programs. Lately they have been airing a series from 2014 called 'Amish Haunting'. Apparently the Amish have quite a history of hauntings and eerie folklore. I've noticed that some of it stems from their old Swiss Anabaptist beliefs. In other words, I'm beginning to think that much of it is actually poltergeist activity created from the power of their own deep beliefs! If something is brought into their homes which they truly believe is demonic, they can actually manifest that into reality.
'Ancient Aliens' and 'In Search of' are two interesting programs airing Fridays on the History channel. I feel like both of these programs go back a long time with me, as I recall the original 'Chariots of the Gods' documentary and reading through one of Erich von Däniken's books that my father had when I was a kid. Also, the original 'In Search of' was a groundbreaking series way back when, leading to all of the similar programing today.
I left the following comment on YouTube, under a video from 'In Search of... Bigfoot': "My parents owned a cabin up in Lake County northern California, and I remember watching this as a kid during the warm late Saturday afternoon heat amid the shadows of the tree cover.. and it was truly frightening... especially since it was close to "Bigfoot country" up there."
"The combination of the script read by Leonard Nimoy and the others in the series plus the strange music accomplished its intended effect." -- Brian Haskins, YouTube user

This will occur on the evening of Sunday, October 13th. With the literal time occurring at 2:08 PST and 5:08 PM EST, this makes it a bit of a tweener, therefore Saturday evening will be a virtual full moon.
