A solar eclipse is coming to America. Here’s what you’ll see where you live.

By Casey Miller, Ryan Mark, and Brian Resnick - vox.com - Jul 25, 2017

On Monday August 21, a solar eclipse will cut across the entire United States. And wherever you are, you will be able to see it. Even though the “totality” — the area where the sun is completely blocked out by the moon — is only 70 miles wide, the whole country (even Alaska and Hawaii) will experience a partial eclipse.

This is what you’ll see, and the time you’ll see it, in your zip code.

We recommend punching in a few different ones to see how the eclipse experience will vary across the country. Salem, Oregon (97301), is going to see a total eclipse. Downtown Los Angeles (90012) will see 62 percent of the sun blocked at the peak. In Lake Charles, Louisiana (70601), it’ll be 71 percent.

L.U.C.I.F.E.R. Device and Chapel of the Holy Cross (Legend of the Verde Valley) Documentary

Mike Davis

NOTE: This is a chapter out of the series and book "Legends of the Verde Valley" which you can get by licking on the link below.

This short documentary makes a few connects between the Chapel of the Holy Cross, The L.U.C.F.E.R. Device, The Vatican, Premier Vortex location, and the possibility the church was built upon sacred ground giving rise to the question why does the church point a cross to the sky? What is it trying to signal? Questions of interest for further works in progress in this series.

In 1984, the University of Arizona and the Vatican selected Mount Graham as a site for a complex of telescopes. The fact that this is a sacred place for the Apache was not taken into consideration which would ultimately be the start of "The Long, Bitter Battle over Mount Graham."

For many Native American nations there are certain geographic places which have special spiritual meanings. These sacred places are often portals to the spirit worlds. For the Apache in Arizona, one of these sacred places is Mount Graham which is said to be one of the most holy places in the world because of the gateways and portals found there.

“L.U.C.I.F.E.R., which stands for “Large Binocular Telescope Near-infrared Utility with Camera and Integral Field Unit for Extragalactic Research,” is a chilled instrument attached to a telescope. And yes, it’s named for the Devil, whose name itself means “morning star” [and which] happens to be right next to the Vatican Observatory on Mt. Graham in Tucson.” — Rebecca Boyle, Popular Science Magazine

Why would the Vatican name one of their projects "Lucifer?" If someone is Luciferian, fine! Just say I am Luciferian. Just as with many Christians... to the  global elite, everythng is "the Devil." The Devil, Satan, Lucifer, Pan, Kali, Cernunnos, Apollo, any stag or horned fertility god, etc. Lucifer is not Satan, but there can be a conflated meaning.

I'm planning to visit the Filoli house in the next few weeks. For me it's not really the size or luxury of the house, but the space, tranquility, and especially the nearby wilderness of the Santa Cruz Mountains. I was on a trail just last night at about 10:30, dark sky, crescent moon, stars, mountain, trees and thick brush, and the howls of coyotes. Now combine that with a mansion, what could be more desirable than that? If I had a house on the edge of the wilderness, I would be happy even if I didn't have any money to speak of.

Teutonic Order Anthem

Teutonic Order

The Order of Brothers of the German House of Saint Mary in Jerusalem (official names: Latin: Ordo domus Sanctæ Mariæ Theutonicorum Hierosolymitanorum, German: Orden der Brüder vom Deutschen Haus der Heiligen Maria in Jerusalem), commonly the Teutonic Order (Deutscher Orden, Deutschherrenorden or Deutschritterorden), is a Catholic religious order founded as a military order c. 1190 in Acre, Kingdom of Jerusalem. Purely religious since 1929, it still confers limited honorary knighthoods.

The order was formed to aid Christians on their pilgrimages to the Holy Land and to establish hospitals. Its members have commonly been known as the Teutonic Knights, having a small voluntary and mercenary military membership, serving as a crusading military order for protection of Christians in the Holy Land and the Baltics during the Middle Ages.

If a violent foreign enemy invaded Germany,
and rioted, looted, raped, robbed, murdered, and maimed....
I wonder what the Teutonic Knights would have done?

My top 3 "move scapegoats"

1) Lynette from 'An Officer and a Gentleman'

She may have been a gold digger of sorts, but not any more so than than Paula. Talk about "projecting!" If she was guilty of anything, it certainly wasn't due to Sid's suicide! Was it her fault that he quit? NO. Was it her fault that he committed suicide? NO. Zack and Lynette didn't have a speck of evidence that she did anything wrong. In movie-fact, she did not. They had an argument because he quit, period. What would self-righteous Paula have don't differently if in the same situation? What is worse is that it's just left upon her shoulder to carry this non-existent guilt. Extremely cruel. When Paula said "God help you"... grrr

2) Christine from 'Family Business'

Jesse was not only a crook, but a proud crook who openly admired Gypsy thieves for their honesty of a clear conscience. How the hell could he call Christine a "parasite!?" Her crime was victimless to boot! Jesse's crime could have coast people's lives!! Jeopardizing people's lives so he can steal money for himself. Isn't that infinitely more parasitical? At the least, his "projection" on Christine was insanely hypocritical.

3) Randy from 'The Wrestler'

After just beginning the process of patching things up, his estranged daughter Stephanie "projected" all of her legitimate anger toward her father--literally wrote him off permanently!--all because he made one unintentional mistake. She could have said "don't call me for awhile," and put the ball back in his court... or to punish him. It was extremely cruel, but she did have old baggage as sort've an excuse.

************

'Box of Moonlight'

The late Lisa Blount, who played "Lynette," was in a very "different" sort've movie in 1996 entitled 'Box of Moonlight'. John Turturro plays the part of a construction foreman, something of a tough guy, who meets Sam Rockwell's offbeat and vulnerable character while driving out in the countryside. It's so different; it could almost take place today... or in 1950! It's like a lot of movies in that it's about a regular person having an experience, an adventure.... only it doesn't feel fake at all. The characters are real. Pretty good movie... sometimes harsh.. in other ways innocent.

At one point they're in the woods near a body of water, and they meet two sisters... one played by Lisa Blount. John Turturro's character was married, and Sam Rockwell's homeless character wasn't in any position to meet any women. They all just went swimming, without any social or sexual tension; like when you were a kid and could make a few friends like in an hour. The two sisters were like simple country girls so to speak. It's been so long since I saw it; I've forgotten the particulars, but it's a good film. Sam Rockwell is apparently from Daly City, not far from me. Lisa Blount passed away in 2010.

Flowing Hair Half Dimes (1794-1795)

I have held onto coins which I've come across over the years. I keep ones which I think have some interesting feature, such as a very rustic 1839 penny, an old German coin with a Germanic eagle, Roman coins, Indian heads, or coins with female heads that remind me of perhaps Athena or Freya. This one caught my eye recently. I like that "Lady Liberty" is presented as not really beautiful, but has a certain grand-quality to her. The eagle is really an Egyptian Phoenix due to the Masonic influence.

Another is a 1791 Scottish St. Andrews half-penny, in which the "X"--to me--could symbolize the ancient symbol of "Man." Sometimes something can just be what you want it to be. Officially he is St. Andrews, but to you it could symbolize someone else perhaps.

New Horizons Flyover of Pluto

NASA.gov Video

Using actual New Horizons data and digital elevation models of Pluto and its largest moon Charon, mission scientists have created flyover movies that offer spectacular new perspectives of the many unusual features that were discovered and which have reshaped our views of the Pluto system – from a vantage point even closer than the spacecraft itself.

This dramatic Pluto flyover begins over the highlands to the southwest of the great expanse of nitrogen ice plain informally named Sputnik Planitia. The viewer first passes over the western margin of Sputnik, where it borders the dark, cratered terrain of Cthulhu Macula, with the blocky mountain ranges located within the plains seen on the right. The tour moves north past the rugged and fractured highlands of Voyager Terra and then turns southward over Pioneer Terra -- which exhibits deep and wide pits -- before concluding over the bladed terrain of Tartarus Dorsa in the far east of the encounter hemisphere.

Digital mapping and rendering were performed by Paul Schenk and John Blackwell of the Lunar and Planetary Institute in Houston.

Watch: NASA Releases Amazing Pluto Flyby Video

To celebrate the two-year anniversary of NASA's New Horizon probe arriving at Pluto, the space agency has released a breathtaking video showcasing the notoriously distant planet.

The remarkable presentation, culled from data obtained during the 2015 study of Pluto, provides viewers with the perspective of flying over the planet from around 8,000 miles above its surface.

While there are no signs of UFOs or alien bases, the footage is still pretty awesome when one considers that Pluto, at its furthest point, sits an astounding 4.6 billion miles away from the Earth.

As such, the video constitutes what is probably the only view of Pluto that many of us will have in our lifetimes, since it's highly unlikely that humans will make their way out to the planet anytime soon.

That said, based on the barren and seemingly unforgiving landscape of the planet, we're not sure anyone would really want to visit the faraway world anyway.

Conor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather 2nd (TORONTO) Press Conference!

Octagon News

Conor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather 2nd Press Conference TORONTO! Conor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather Press Conference BEST MOMENTS!

Conor McGregor: Conor Anthony McGregor (Irish: Conchúr Antóin Mac Gréagóir; born 14 July 1988) is an Irish professional mixed martial artist who is currently signed to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He is the reigning UFC Lightweight Champion, and former UFC Featherweight Champion. During his career, McGregor has competed as a featherweight, lightweight, and welterweight.

In 2008, McGregor started his mixed martial arts (MMA) career and, in 2012, he won both the Cage Warriors Featherweight and Lightweight Championships, holding both titles concurrently before vacating them to sign with the UFC. In 2015, at UFC 194, McGregor defeated José Aldo for the UFC Featherweight Championship via knockout thirteen seconds into the first round. This was the fastest victory in UFC title fight history. Upon defeating Eddie Alvarez for the UFC Lightweight Championship at UFC 205, McGregor became the first fighter in the UFC's history to hold titles in two weight divisions simultaneously.

He is known for being the biggest pay-per-view draw in MMA, as well as his extravagant lifestyle and trash talking.

Floyd Mayweather: Floyd Joy Mayweather Jr. (born Floyd Joy Sinclair; February 24, 1977) is an American former professional boxer who competed from 1996 to 2015, and currently works as a boxing promoter. Widely considered to be one of the greatest boxers of all time, undefeated as a professional, and a five-division world champion, Mayweather won fifteen world titles and the lineal championship in four different weight classes (twice at welterweight).[1] As an amateur, he won a bronze medal in the featherweight division at the 1996 Olympics. Mayweather is a two-time winner of The Ring magazine's Fighter of the Year award (1998 and 2007), a three-time winner of the Boxing Writers Association of America (BWAA) Fighter of the Year award (2007, 2013, and 2015), and a six-time winner of the Best Fighter ESPY Award (2007–2010, 2012–2014).

In 2016, Mayweather was ranked by ESPN as the greatest boxer, pound for pound, of the last 25 years. In the same year, he peaked as BoxRec's number one fighter of all time, pound for pound, as well as the greatest welterweight of all time. Many sporting news and boxing websites ranked Mayweather as the best boxer in the world, pound for pound, twice in a span of ten years; including The Ring, Sports Illustrated, ESPN, BoxRec, Fox Sports, and Yahoo! Sports. He is also regarded as the best defensive boxer in the sport,[13] as well as being the most accurate puncher since the existence of CompuBox, having the highest plus–minus ratio in recorded boxing history. He finished his career with a record of 26 wins without a loss or draw in world title fights (10 by KO); 23 wins (9 KOs) in lineal title fights; 24 wins (7 KOs) against former or current world titlists; 12 wins (3 KOs) against former or current lineal champions; and 2 wins (1 KO) against International Boxing Hall of Fame inductees.

In addition to his accomplishments in the ring, Mayweather is well known for being one of the most lucrative pay-per-view (PPV) attractions of all time, in any sport. He topped the Forbes and Sports Illustrated lists of the 50 highest-paid athletes of 2012 and 2013 respectively, and the Forbes list again in both 2014 and 2015, listing him as the highest paid athlete in the world. In 2007, he founded Mayweather Promotions, his own boxing promotional firm after defecting from Bob Arum's Top Rank. Mayweather has generated approximately 19.5 million in PPV buys and $1.3 billion in revenue throughout his career, surpassing the likes of former top PPV attractions including Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield, Lennox Lewis, Oscar De La Hoya, and Manny Pacquiao.

Mayweather-McGregor is a matchmakers dream. Two big egos with big followings; both trash-talking extraordinaires able to sell it to the public. A bout, which very possibly could end up being one-sided, may end up making more money than any boxing match in history. Everything depends on McGregor's jab. Theoretically, if he is able to use his good reach to establish a powerful jab while stalking Mayweather, then he may be able to do something when he can put him to the ropes. It seems logical that Mayweather will be able to land some serious counter punches against an inexperienced opponent.

14th April 1561: The Nuremberg Celestial Phenomenon

History Pod

http://www.historypod.net

On the morning of 14th April 1561, the people of Nuremberg in Germany witnessed a “dreadful apparition” in the sky.  Modern UFO enthusiasts have used the Nuremberg celestial phenomenon as evidence of extra-terrestrial life, although scientists have also put forward their explanation of why hundreds of people saw what they described as an aerial battle raging in front of the sun.

The spectacle was recorded by the artist Hans Glaser who lived in Nuremberg and so presumably witnessed the event himself.  He published a woodcut and text in a ‘broadsheet’ – a kind of newspaper that reveled in reporting strange or violent stories.  The woodcut shows cylindrical objects; multiple-coloured discs and globes, crosses, and even tubes that look like cannon barrels all moving in the sky.

There’s no way of knowing how accurate the woodcut is, or what caused the shapes in the sky, but recent science has pointed towards atmospheric phenomena.  UFO-skeptic Frank Johnson has written a convincing argument suggesting that the people of Nuremberg witnessed a parhelion, otherwise known as a sundog, caused by light refracting through clouds of ice crystals, along with other atmospheric tricks of the light including a low viewing angle of the sun.  Others suggest a city-wide outbreak of ergotism, where fungus growing on grain can cause hallucinations.

Whatever the cause, the celestial phenomenon terrified the people of Nuremberg who interpreted it as a warning from God.

It seems likely that whatever happened was beyond our understanding. Perhaps some battle in another dimension which briefly conflated with our world.

'All blue-eyed people can be traced back to one ancestor who lived 10,000 years ago near the Black Sea'

Michael Hanlon - Daily Mail (UK) - February 1, 2008

Throughout history they have been the eyes that are prized.

Frank Sinatra's were legendary, Paul Newman's melted a million hearts while Cameron Diaz's dazzle in modern Hollywood.

But how - and why - blue eyes arose has always been something of a genetic mystery. Until now.

According to a team of researchers from Copenhagen University, a single mutation which arose as recently as 6-10,000 years ago was responsible for all the blue-eyed people alive on Earth today.

The team, whose research is published in the journal Human Genetics, identified a single mutation in a gene called OCA2, which arose by chance somewhere around the northwest coasts of the Black Sea in one single individual, about 8,000 years ago.

The Texaco symbol: An exercise in the collective unconscious - Part 3 - Does the "T" altar represent the Irminsul?

I once heard an occult researcher refer to the Texaco symbol as a pentagram with an altar in front of it. However, could it be a Listian Vehme star rose with an Irminsul in front of it? Guido von List called the common "welcome star" or "barn star"--usually black in color--as an ancient Germanic symbol.... apparently with partly the same basic meaning as the neopagan pentagram. In other words, an ancient European version of the Indo-European or Sumerian pentagram. Actually von List made reference to the Vehme star (also: five-angled star, Truthenfuss, barn star, or welcome star), the Vehme star rose (Pentacle star with outer circle), and the Vehme cross (occultic "exoteric Christian cross" with a hidden "fifth point").

"Barn star" (Vehme) of German origin
The Texaco logo mostly fits the description of the Vehme star rose as it has the "circle of nature" around it... although not with the pentagram design. In any case, it could at least fit the definition of the Germanic Vehme star (barn star). The "T" certainly looks close enough to a Germanic Irminsul as corporate logos go. Also the colors red and green; the land-based "colors of nature."According to von List, the solid Vehme star/barn star represents "revolving or turning generation,""rebirth," or "return." In other words, the "cycle of nature" and the "elements of nature." A red Vehme star with a green Irminsul in front of it.

An Irminsul is an altar to the Germanic god Irmin... which may have been a representation of Odin, Tyr, or another Germanic god. Some of the meanings were probably lost after Charlemagne had virtually all of them in central Europe destroyed. It sounds like it was an altar to the Germanic god or goddess of choice in the community in which it was constructed. Occasionally, "Irminism" is used as an alternate name for Germanic Neopaganism. Again..... a green Irminsul... in front of a red Vehme star.... surrounded by an outline of the circle of nature. A living green altar to the Germanic gods, within the circle of nature, and amid the literal blood-red (DNA) regeneration of nature and all of it's elements.

In the red and white Texaco symbol, one can see what appears to be an altar upon a hill or raised platform, and perhaps against the morning or evening sun. If you stare at it, it's as though your subconscious ancestral memory is telling you to ascend the platform. Then compare it to the Irminsul image, also sitting upon a raised platform. Is the Texaco symbol the spirit of Wotan (Irmin) within the five elements (Vehme) of nature (circle)? I had said it in yesterdays posting on a different topic, and I'll say it again... all of you Asutrar, Odinists, Wotanists out there should be all over this. Take the symbol back... "recapture the flag." Reappropriate.

Excerpts from EnglishNews.org ("English Asatru News") Irminsul page:

"Irminsul is a pure and ancient Germanic symbol. The name Irminsul is of Old Saxon origin meaning “arising pillar”, or "great pillar that supports”. The concept of Irminsul and its iconic, unique shape is found within the most ancient pure Germanic languages and history, from Sweden to Switzerland..."

"The Irmin component of the name is an Old Saxon adjective that transliterates as “colossal strength” or “Great/strong ”. Irminsul in its literal interpretation potentially refers to the Germanic spiritual concept of spiritual pillars, Irminsuls which are pillars that were used as totems, or statues of worship in the classic shape."

"The name Irmin potentially refers to one of the alternate regional Old Saxon names for Tyr or more realistically with Woden/Wotan/Odin. As the Old Norse attested equivalent of Irmin is Jörmunr which is a name/title ascribed to Woden/Wotan/Odin."

"It should be noted that through Old Norse alone over 220 names of deities have been attributed to different aspects or titles for Odin alone, such as Grim, Hárr, Gondlir and Jörmunr. Factor in all the Old English, Old German and regional variations, the names of Odin must over our entire history have numbered into the thousands."

The Shigir Idol - Likely remnant of the Ancient Teutonic Homeland of 9,000 BCE

'Haunting Russian statue discovered to be 11,000-years-old'

Covered in a mysterious code, the Shigir Idol is the oldest wooden structure in the world.

Thousands of years before the ancient Egyptians quarried even the first block of granite for the great pyramids, a massive wooden totem nearly 17.5 feet tall fell into a peat bog in the western fringes of Siberia, Russia. There it lay, preserved in a kind of natural time capsule, until it was discovered in 1894.

Called the Big Shigir Idol, the mysterious statue has baffled researchers for decades due to the coded hieroglyphics covering its surface. While some have surmised that it may contain stories about the creation of the world by ancient man, others believe it to be nothing more than decoration. One thing we do know for sure: This thing is old — really, really, old.

Back in 1997, an initial analysis using radiocarbon dating placed the Shigir Idol's age at roughly 9,500 years. A new analysis this year using seven small wooden samples from the Idol placed inside an accelerated mass spectrometer determined it to be 11,000 years old. That's more than twice the age of the Egyptian pyramids or Stonehenge.

Tibetan Swastika
Sverdlovsk Oblast is  located in what would have been well within the territory of what I would call the Ancient Teutonic Homeland of 11,000 years ago. The designs carved into the Shigir Idol could contain  some of the mysteries of those people. If you look at the above sketch of the totem's markings and signs, there is what appears to be an Othala-like design. I'm not saying that it is an Othala, but if you right-click/view image and place two fingers (top and bottom) on it... it does indeed look like an Othala on a couple of parts of it. Now if we consider that part of the meaning of this symbol is "Homeland," it presents a very alluring possibility. You Asatrar/Odinists out there should be all over this. The Shigir Idol is the oldest preserved wood carving in the world.

It's curious that this design resembles the "endless knot" of Tibetan Buddhism, which could have a similar meaning to the "flower of life." I believe that as demographic changes occurred on the "earth island" over millennia, some of the very ancient symbols were left behind in some capacity. Perhaps the incoming Mongols merely discovered the symbols after the last glacial movement? Just last evening on 'Ancient Aliens' (episode 'The Replicants'), it showed a Tibetan symbol which strongly resembled what I call a "Vehmic Rune" within a circle. Within each of the five sections were Tibetan symbols and text I recall. I believe that this was a real ancient rune, which I had thought was Proto-European; but perhaps had a Teutonic origin, or both.

Teutonic genes in modern Iran
In addition to the endless knot and the Vehmic rune, there are variations of the Triskelion within various cultures around eastern Europe, western and central Asia, and even in Tibet. Swastikas and what looks like the "wheel of the year" (Dharmachakra) are both featured prominently within Tibetan Buddhism. Even ancient Japanese symbols have similar features to many from this very ancient central Asian concept, but I don't want to reach too much here. Then of course there's the Indo-European language brought into India at a later time period by "Aryans" who were an Indo-European people (Mediterranean/Teutonic).

Temple of Artemis: The Sacred Temple of the Proto-European Tradition - Part 3

Artemis: The Ancient Greek Goddess of Hunt

kinninigan

Artemis was the ancient Greek goddess of hunt, wilderness, wild animals, and fertility. Part one of the video describes the goddess in the Greek mythology. Part two of the video is a short prayer to Artemis....

Prayer to Artemis Before the Hunt:

Slim-ankled Artemis, free-footed, wild-haired girl,
with steps swift and silent you run through the wood,
your bow at the ready, your shafts sharp and deadly.
Far-shooting Artemis, keen of eye and strong of arm,
your aim ever true, you take your prey, goddess,
with a single strike. Artemis, I pray to you
as I begin my hunt–may my eyes be clear,
may my hand be steady, may the shots I fire
reach my target and no other, may any kill be quick.
I am grateful, goddess, for the meat on my table.
I am grateful, goddess, for the time I spend
in the cold, in the wood, hearing the silence;
I am grateful, goddess, for the time I spend
in your world. Grant that I take on this work
with honest intent, grant that I feel the weight
of what I do, grant that I honor the lives
that feed me. Mistress of the hunt, I pray to you.

TEMPLE OF ARTEMIS - www.anadolucografyasi.com

Today in History: Herostratus sets fire to Temple of Artemis to become famous (356 BC)

The repeated destruction of the temple - The perfect metaphor for the destruction of the great Goddess

Not to merely focus on the negative---which is very difficult given the well over 1,500 years of attack upon the Proto-European spiritual tradition---but the temple is gone, the spirituality is gone, it's no longer even located in Greece, Christianity "happened," the Turkish invasion "happened," Islam "happened," and if we're really honest about it... even the ancient Olympian pantheon more-or-less pushed aside the very ancient tradition over a long period of time.... not to mention the forced transformation of Europe today.

Was the Temple of Artemis really the Queen of all Temples to the Almother?

We do not know what may have existed prior to the glacial movements. It seems like a good bet that this temple was the most impressive among those of which we know. It is after all, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The holy sanctuary of Mona, which was located on the island of Anglesey in modern day France, was of the Druidic tradition. However, it clearly was partly rooted in the tradition of the Almother ("Mona").

Although this lost temple ended with a similar fate as the Temple of Artemis, and could have been even older for all we know, the Temple of Artemis was spectacular and truly defined a time when the spirituality of the ancient race was the culture of the ancestors. That isn't to take away from the ancient Welsh, and the wonderful sanctuaries of the mysteries of nature amid the oak groves.

One of the good things that Americans have exemplified has been the concept of not taking a knee to kings, dictators, or theocratic despots. I only take a knee for my mother Janet, my departed Rachel, departed relatives and ancestors, and the Almother Mona. Since there are numerous given names for the Goddess, such as the three names of the ancient Greek Triformis, I often just say The Almother. The inspiration for that was the Alfather Odin in Asatru. Architecturally as close as it can be.... we need to literally construct a few new Temples of Artemis.... AGAIN!!!

Hail the Almother!

Temple of Artemis: The Sacred Temple of the Proto-European Tradition - Part 2

The forgotten Proto-European nations (Welsh, Basques, Euganeans, Maltese, etc.)

A map of European tribal nations from 9,000 years ago would have to take into account the inhabitable regions covered under permanent glaciers and somewhat less restrictive but permanent sheets of ice amid the mountain ranges separating northern and southern Europe. In other words a "small Europe," consisting of most of what is today southern Europe; as well as a much harsher but habitable "east-west trail" from the very southernmost England, down including most of France, over to Ukraine and perhaps beyond it a bit. The Alps would have been particularly harsh at that time, with the only route between southern and northern Europe likely having been by sea. All European would have been essentially the same sub-race, as they would have been prior to this glacial movement.

It should be noted that the Temple of Artemis is similar to Stonehenge, or to others such as the Ġgantija megalithic temple complex in Malta, in that it is both a symbol of the modern culture to which it belongs and to the wider very ancient Proto-European culture from which it is truly rooted. In other words, Stonehenge was not constructed specifically by the Druids; nor was the Temple of Artemis constructed specifically by the Olympian Greeks... but symbols of an earlier expression of their Proto-European ancestors. Margaret Murray was right! All one has to do is go back far enough! There was a widespread "Witch-Cult," and it easily predated the last glacial movement. There have been widespread artistic depictions of both a male Horned God (Cave of the Trois-Frères) and of a female Mother Goddess (Venus of Willendorf) going back tens of thousands of years.

The Proto-European Goddess as "The Triformis"

(durron597 - mythology.stackexchange.com - May 3, 2015)

I always thought that Artemis was the Goddess of the Moon (and Hunting, stags, etc.)... until I thought about how there's Helios/Apollo which caused me to learn about Selene. But further research revealed yet another Moon goddess - Hecate, who is associated with the moon, and is Selene's grandmother. Still further research revealed Phoebe, whose Wikipedia article is pretty sparse and is the grandmother of Selene.

Did the goddess who had domain of the moon change over time? Did they all sort of do it together?

Don't forget Achelois. . . – HDE 226868
I'm still confused, i have to search up hecate for a social studies project, and my friend is searching up selene, I'm trying to say my goddess is better than hers, but now other gods are coming into this project! I understand that gaia is the mother or grandmother of hecate but are hecate and selene sisters or something since they both have the power of the moon? This all here is probrally pretty confusing, but the again, we are talking about greek goddesses! – user954

************

Actually the list of moon-goddesses goes on since, according to Selene's Theoi page:

Other Greek moon goddesses included Pasiphae, the Leukippides, Eileithyia, Hekate, Artemis, Bendis, and Hera (who sometimes doubled for Selene in the Endymion myth).

But let's focus first on the one you mentioned:
Artemis. Her association with the moon seems relatively straight-forward: if Apollo is associated with the Sun, then his sister has to be associated with the moon.

Selene (= Mene or Luna). She is the proper Titan-goddess of the Moon, often even the personnification of the moon itself. See among many other sources, Apollonius Rhodius's Argonautica:

Rising from the distant east, the Lady Selene (Moon), Titanian goddess...

Phoibe/Phoebe. The Titan Phoibe doesn't actually seem to be associated with the moon, the confusion comes from Selene being often nicknamed Phoebe (i. e. 'bright'). Phoibe was apparently a prophetess Titan-goddess and as such is supposed to have held the Oracle of Delphi at some point. From the first line of Aeschylus's Eumenides:

THE PYTHIAN PRIESTESS
First, in this prayer, of all the gods I name
The prophet-mother Earth; and Themis next,
Second who sat-for so with truth is said-
On this her mother's shrine oracular.
Then by her grace, who unconstrained allowed,
There sat thereon another child of Earth-
Titanian Phoebe.

Hecate. Now Hecate is something else I think. The different sources we have tend to contradict each other on her parentage, descendance, attributions etc. leading some scholars to think that Hecate was in fact a goddess foreign to the Greek Pantheon that was only added later (and well integrated thanks to the place Hesiod gave her in the Theogony). See for instance what Sarah Johnston says about it in 'Restless Deads':

Let us go back further, to Hecate's place of origin. There is general agreement that this was Caria, in southwestern Asia Minor, which is supported by the fact that by the Hellenistic period her precinct in Lagina was the largest of all the precincts there (in constrast, in all of Greece, only Aegina seems to have had any significant sanctuary devoted wholly to Hecate).

Caria being in southwestern Anatolia. Similarly (from the list I mentioned earlier), Pasiphae seems to have been the cretan moon-goddess and Bendis the one from Thrace.

The specific reason why Hecate was associated with the moon seems a bit complex. Originally, in Caria, Hecate seems to have been a fairly generic mother Goddess. Even in Hesiod's Theogony she is presented as having dominion over basically everything:

For to this day, whenever any one of men on earth offers rich sacrifices and prays for favour according to custom, he calls upon Hecate. [...] For as many as were born of Earth and Ocean amongst all these she has her due portion. The son of Cronos did her no wrong nor took anything away of all that was her portion among the former Titan gods: but she holds, as the division was at the first from the beginning, privilege both in earth, and in heaven, and in sea.

According to Sarah Johnston in 'Hekate Soteira: A Study of Hekate's Role in the Chaldean Oracles and Related Literature' (which I haven't been able to find and thus read so I might be misrepresenting her idea here), the association came relatively late (1st Century AD) from the fact that at some point Hecate was seen as a "liminal" goddess, an intermediary between two worlds (hence also probably the association between Hecate and witchcraft), which is a quality that was supposedly shared by the Moon.

So to summarize, the difference between Selene and Artemis is that one is the moon while the other is just associated with it, and on top of that one is a Titan while the other is an Olympian; Phoebe has nothing to do with the moon; and the others are foreign/regional goddesses integrated a posteriori into the Greek Pantheon.

... but I'm afraid I didn't find anything interesting on Achelois – plannapus

Thanks! I've upvoted, but I'd like to see a little more discussion on what Hecate's relationship is with the moon in particular before I accept. – durron597

Theia is the sister of Phoebe wich makes Phoebe Selene's aunt , Artemis's mother Leto is the daughter of Phoebe wich makes her Selene's cousin. Leto had a sister named Asteria who bore Hecate wich makes Hecate Artemis's cousin . Selene was believed to be the moon itself in ancient greeks , Artemis and Hecate juste came later to be associated with the moon, also Hecate's mother Asteria was also Selene's cousin . Hecate and Artemis where not associated with the moon for nothing cose they're mothers Leto and Asteria where closely related to Selene !.

Hecate, Artemis and Selene are one in the same. Artemis is known as the Goddess of the Triple Aspect because she has three identities. Artemis is the virgin goddess of the hunt (Earth form), Selene is goddess of the moon (sky form) and Hecate is the goddess of witchcraft and the underworld (cthonian/underworld form). We can see this in depictions of Artemis wearing the "horns of the moon" on her crown, or images of Hecate as a three-faced goddess. It is possible that at some point they were separate deities and their stories became confused by later Greeks and Romans but our current understanding is of the three as different aspects of one.

"Our current understanding is of the three as different aspects of one." I'm going to need to see a source for that statement, because as far as I am aware that statement is incorrect. – Hamlet

According to Theoi.com (theoi.com/Olympios/ArtemisGoddess.html#Selene) the Artemis-Selene-Hecate triad comes from Roman-period poetry, not from Greek myth. – solsdottir
